STEWARDS REPORT Wednesday 15th May 2002

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Slow
Moveable rail out 2 metres from 800 to 400 metres then in true position for the remainder.

CHAIRMAN: Mr. G. Ireland
QTRB STEWARDS: Mr. C. Clifford, Mr. C. McLune, Mr. W. Birch, Mr. D. Hensler.

GENERAL: Trainer R. Heathcote was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare riders for SWIRLER (Race 7) and POWER SNAP (Race 8) by the required time.

RACE 1
HILL-SMITH ESTATE HANDICAP 1200 metres

Acting on Veterinary advice BR’ISLAND BOY was declared a late scratching at 12.11pm after the gelding became fractious in the barriers and received multiple lacerations to the hind legs.
On the announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BR’ISLAND BOY be refunded with deductions of 25 cents in the dollar for the win and 18 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of win and place tickets applicable.
Trainer K. Tinsley was advised that a further barrier test certificate must be obtained for BR’ISLAND BOY prior to its next race start.

CRAIGLE FAME was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the straight.

RACE 2
OXFORD LANDING PLATE 1400 metres

Trainer John Edmonds was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for BUZZ ON BY by the required time.

GOLD ROUBLE and WELLTODO came together on jumping away.

After jumping away awkwardly RANCODA shifted in hampering DID I DO IT.

Approaching the 1200 metres BUZZ ON BY was inclined to over race and had to be steadied off the heels of HATSHEPSUT.

In the early stages of the event HUMAN NATURE commenced to over race and was forced to race wide until nearing the 800 metres where the gelding took up a forward position..

M. Rodd rider of KING’S AURA was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out at the entrance to the straight making heavy contact with the hind quarters of KACHINGO. As a result of this incident KING’S AURA then shifted back in resulting in HATSHEPSUT being hampered.

RACE 3
JANSZ NV SPARKLING HANDICAP 1000 metres

Acting on Veterinary advice VETA BELLA which became fractious in the barriers was declared a late scratching at 1.21pm when the filly was found to be lame in the off hind.
On the announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on VETA BELLA be refunded and deductions of 4 cents in the dollar for the win and 5 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of win and place tickets applicable.
Trainer Peter Gillman was advised a further barrier test certificate must be obtained for VETA BELLA prior to its next race start.

On jumping away NOBLE VAIN had to be steadied when tightened for room between LUMBA LUMBA and UNACCOMPANIED both of which shifted ground.

A short distance after the start KILKENNY PRINCE had to be steadied off the heels of HOLLY’S SHADOW which shifted in abruptly.

A post race Veterinary examination of OUTBACK OPUS revealed the filly had pulled up in a distressed state.

RACE 4
ANGAS BRUT SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES HANDICAP 1000 metres

Trainer R. McCall was fined the sum of $50 for failing to affect a transfer of ownership for SONALOU.

CHIEF SEDUCER shifted in on jumping away and made contact with CHASIN’ WIMMIN.

MAJOR PAGE was slow to begin.

A short distance after the start MAJOR PAGE shifted in and brushed the hind quarters of SONALOU.

Rounding the home turn PHILP had to be steadied after improving up on to the heels of the tiring DASH OF SILVER.

After passing the 200 metres FAIRY MUSIC shifted in abruptly and made heavy contact with MISS LADEDAH.

A post race Veterinary examination of FAIRY MUSIC revealed the filly had sustained a small laceration to the inside of the off hind.

RACE 5
PEWSEY VALE VINEYARD HANDICAP 1600 metres

On jumping away LITHE shifted out and made contact with LOVE AND SCANDAL.

Approaching the 1400 metres LOVE AND SCANDAL and DAINTREE DAN were both briefly tightened for room between LITH and BILLY CART HILL which was inclined to lay in.

Approaching the 600 metres BILLY CART HILL improved up on to the heels of GALLINA LAD and had to be steadied.

Over the concluding stages LITHE had to be steadied when tightened for room between PINCER and SAGIT HERO both of which shifted ground.

RACE 6
LANGS 5 YEAR OLD SCOTCH WHISKY HANDICAP 1200 metres

STORMY BLUE reared at the start and lost ground.

When over racing near the 1100 metres CIRCLE OF WHITE shifted in and away from YARRAMANIA tightening the running of OELAND and SHARMEEN STAR. A short distance later YARRAMANIA shifted in taking CIRCLE OF WHITE in on to OELAND. Apprentice V. Caddy rider of YARRAMANIA was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Making the home turn CIRCLE OF WHITE shifted in inconveniencing OELAND. As a result DAMIGOS which was following had to be steadied.

RACE 7
YALUMBA BAROSSA VARIETALS HANDICAP 1200 metres

YOUTHFUL jumped away awkwardly.

On jumping away OH CANNY and CHINA AMBER were both tightened for room between SWIRLER and GET GOING which shifted out slightly.

After leaving the 600 metres FRISKY STAR had to be steadied after improving up on to the heels of OUR BEEKAY.

At the entrance to the straight FRISKY STAR was disappointed for a run between YOUTHFUL and CHINA AMBER which shifted out to improve.

When questioned regarding YOUTHFUL racing in a backward position in today’s event jockey M. Carson stated that the gelding travelled well in the early stages however when the pace increased approaching the 800 metres the gelding failed to quicken and did not handle the prevailing conditions and lost ground.
M. Carson further stated that YOUTHFUL gathered momentum shortly after entering the straight and finished the race off fairly.



RACE 8
MAWSON’S LIMESTONE COAST HANDICAP 1400 metres

GLACIES and REVOLTING came together on jumping away.

SPRUCED UP and BRAVE GENTLEMAN both pulled hard in the early stages of the event.

Shortly after entering the straight GLACIES shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so forced SPRUCED UP and A LOT OF CLASS wider on the track.





ALL WINNERS WERE SWABBED.
