S.C.T.C. STEWARDS REPORT SUN.22/12/02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr G Ireland (Chairman), Mr D Collingwood, Mr W Geggie, Mr R Sanders, Mr S Hurford (Cadet)

WEATHER: Fine TRACK RATING: Good

RACE 1 TOOHEYS NEW HANDICAP – 1200M.

Trainer R Kelly was advised a further barrier certificate must be obtained for GOLDEN NATIVE ROSE prior to its next race start as the filly was reluctant to be loaded.

GOLDEN NATIVE ROSE and AUTUMN were both slow to begin.

BELLE MAREE jumped away awkwardly and made contact with NATURE’S WANDERER.

ANGEL FOR SURE, GOLDEN NATIVE ROSE and GWENIVE were all forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 550 metres GWENIVE shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of BELLE MAREE.

When questioned jockey J Powell stated he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of BELLE MAREE.
A post race Veterinary examination of BELLE MAREE failed to reveal any abnormality.

A post race Veterinary examination of SHERMAN OAKS revealed the filly had sustained a minor laceration to the off side hock.

RACE 2: TOOHEYS OLD HANDICAP – 1200M.

On jumping away BIG CAT NAP made heavy contact with the barriers and lost considerable ground.

Jockey Damien Browne rider of HEPTATHLON pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 950 metres he permitted his mount to shift in causing DEFAMATION to be checked and taken in on to CANSO A s a result CANSO shifted in on to LEICA DESERT which struck the heels of REFORMED ANGEL and blundered badly.
Jockey D Browne was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence immediately and to expire at midnight on Thursday 2nd January 2003.

RACE 3: XXXX GOLD HANDICAP – 1200M.

WINDMILL ROAD and CAPANNI were both slow to begin.

TOMIKA and ZANETTI jumped away awkwardly and as a result both OUR ALTERNATOR and RUM ‘N’ RAISIN were hampered.
TRAMBURY’S TRUST which jumped away awkwardly shifted in abruptly tightening LORD DEHERE, BLUES SPECIAL and JAKE’S PICK.

When racing greenly approaching the 1000 metres BLUES SPECIAL shifted in causing LORD DEHERE to be steadied.. BLUES SPECIAL continued to race greenly and near the 900 metres shifted out again causing LORD DEHERE to be steadied.

WEST BOUND and BAWANA LAD were forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 550 metres LORD DEHERE improved up on to the heels of BLUES SPECIAL and had to shift out abruptly.

RACE 4: CASTLEMAINE PERKINS HANDICAP – 1600M.

Due to a printing error apprentice D Ballard was listed as the rider of GUADALEST whereas the declared rider was apprentice L Attard.

Trainer M Ingram was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for LEVELLED by the required time.

On returning to scale a protest was lodged by A Pattillo rider of 2nd placed LEVELLED against TORINY ridden by N Day being declared the winner alleging interference over the final 150 metres.
It was established that over the concluding stages TORINY did shift out taking LEVELLED wider on the track however Stewards deemed the incident did not warrant a reversal of placings and therefore the protest was dismissed.

Jockey W J Cook rider of THIS MAN CAN was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1450 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of VISA CARD which was taken in on to the hind quarters of GUADALEST and had to be checked.
Jockey W J Cook was suspended for a period of 9 meeting to commence immediately and to expire at midnight on Sunday 5th January 2003.

Approaching the 1350 metres VISA CARD was tightened for room by COOL SUCCESS which was taken in momentarily by WORTHY MATRON. Jockey A Merritt rider of WORTHY MATRON was reprimanded over this incident and advised to exercise more care in future.

After leaving the 1300 metres ISHKHAN commenced to over race and approaching .
the 1200 metres was momentarily tightened for room by TORINY which was momentarily tightened by THIS MAN CAN. Jockey W J Cook rider of THIS MAN CAN was reprimanded and advised to be two lengths clear before shifting ground. A short distance later ISHKHAN which continued to over race, shifted in and struck the heels of MONTE STORM and blundered.

Following the running of Race 4 apprentice L Attard was dislodged from GUADALEST and injured his left ankle.

RACE 5: CASTLEMAINE SOVEREIGN HANDICAP – 1600M.

MARKET MAN was slow to begin.

RACE 6: XXXX APPRENTICES CUP – 1200M.

Trainer T Button was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for YALLAH STINGER by the required time.

LUNCHTIME LEGEND was slow to begin.

Making the 800 metres IMPOSING KEN shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

Approaching the 700 metres IMPOSING KEN improved up on to the heels of FLAT and had to be steadied.

RACE 7: XXXX BITTER HANDICAP – 1200M.

SPHAIRA was forced to race three wide throughout the event.

A post race Veterinary examination of TWISTED failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACE 8: HAHN PREMIUM HANDICAP – 1400M.

MAGRITTE broke through the barriers prior to the start and after being inspected by the Club Veterinary surgeon was passed fit to start.

Approaching the 1000 metres CHARMING EYES commenced to over race and improved up on to the heels of ROADSPY. ROADSPY then shifted out abruptly inconveniencing MUJAHID which was taken out on to GET MOBILE.

CHARMING EYES continued to race fiercely and shifted out making the 800 metres hampering GET MOBILE.

Approaching the 500 metres MAXCAY improved up on to the heels of PROUD ASCOT and had to be steadied.

Making the home turn JEEPERS shifted out and made contact with CHARMING EYES.

MAXCAY and REGAL ZANE were held up for clear running rounding the home turn.



RACE 9: HAHN PREMIUM LIGHT HANDICAP – 1000M.

COTTAGE ROOF was slow to begin.

After leaving the 100 metres SIR VO was momentarily tightened by ALANOR KING which shifted in under pressure.

A post race Veterinary examination of ALANOR KING failed to reveal any abnormality.

Trainer T Miller reported that TANANI MISS received a wound above the hock and several lacerations to the lower hind legs.







ALL WINNERS plus LEVELLED and KAYO CURLEY (Race 4), BUZZ ON BY and STAR INVADER (Race 5) and YALLAH STINGER and SHOWZON (Race 6) were sent to be swabbed.
