S.C.T.C. STEWARDS REPORT THURS. 26/12/02
STEWARDS PANEL: Mr R Sanders (Chairman), Mr P Gillard, Mr W Flynn, Mr W Birch, Mr M Tutt.
WEATHER: Overcast
TRACK RATING: Heavy / Slow / Dead
RACE 1: XXXX BITTER QTIS ADDED STAKES HANDICAP – 1200M.
Stable Foreman A Butler pleaded guilty under Australian Rules of Racing 175 (q) in that at the entrance to the mounting enclosure he did kick SURESCAY in the stomach. A Butler was fined the sum of $200.
Trainer R Kirwan was reprimanded for failing to declare a rider for MARKAY ROSE by the required time.
PRINGLE’S GIRL, GOLD REACTION and CHAPEAU BILLANT were all slow to begin.
Approaching the first turn PICCOLODEON raced ungenerously.
VICTORY HIGHWAY was inclined to hang out making the first turn and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
Approaching the 800 metres PRINGLE’S GIRL raced ungenerously at the heels of PINSAMP and shifted out making contact with MAIZCAY MISS.
Approaching the 700 metres JUST A GENERAL shifted out to avoid the heels of ROAD LOVER forcing VICTORY HIGHWAY wider on the track.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of JUST A GENERAL jockey A Kennedy stated that after being wide in the early and middle stages the gelding failed to run on over the concluding stages.
A post race Veterinary examination of JUST A GENERAL failed to reveal any abnormality.
Following the running of Race 1 the track was up upgraded to SLOW.
RACE 2: HAHN PREMIUM HANDICAP – 1400M.
TOO RIGHT was slow to begin.
HORSE KING jumped out at the start and made contact with JAROSLAV which in turn shifted out hampering FIGHTING TREAT.
Shortly after the start DASHIN shifted in hampering LUDLOW LAD. At the same stage GUMMO had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BARSHALLAH which shifted out slightly.
After leaving the 1100 metres GUMMO raced ungenerously for some distance.
Approaching the 700 metres HOOHAA HOOHEY commenced to weaken resulting in TOO RIGHT having to be restrained for some distance losing ground and near the 500 metres TOO RIGHT shifted in and made contact with FIGHTING TREAT which became unbalanced.
Jockey N Jolly rider of LUDLOW LASS accidentally dropped his whip near the 350 metres.
A post race Veterinary examination of HOOHAA HOOHEY failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3: HAHN PREMIUM LIGHT HANDICAP – 1000M.
Approaching the 800 metres CONNELLY raced ungenerously and had to be steadied off the heels of IRISH BUNNY.
After rounding the home turn when attempting a run between IRISH BUNNY and CONNELLY where there was doubtful room KNIGHTLY DISPLAY had to be steadied.
RACE 4: CASTLEMAINE SOVEREIGN PLATE – 1000M.
GENERAL SALUTE and FERRY IN were both slow to begin.
On jumping away BUCK’S OWN and WARNING SWITCH were both cramped for room between JO ANNIE and DARK TILL DAWN which shifted out. BUCK’S OWN and WARNING SWITCH continued to race in restricted room for a short distance.
Approaching the 600 metres GENERAL SALUTE had to be steadied off the heels of ALSSANCE.
Approaching the 300 metres JUST QUIETLY shifted out abruptly hampering ALL KNOWING.
JUST QUIETLY then shifted back in resulting in BUCK’S OWN having to alter course.
Over the concluding stages RUSTIC RAMBLER was inclined to shift out under pressure resulting in jockey A Kennedy having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Inside the final 50 metres FERRY IN improved up on to the heels of DARK TILL DAWN and had to be steadied.
Jockey A Kennedy reported that RUSTIC RAMBLER was inclined to hang in throughout. Trainer Bryan Guy’s representative was advised a warning has been placed on RUSTIC RAMBLER regarding its racing manners.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of FLAMINCO QUEEN trainer T Miller advised he had freshened the filly for today’s event and the soft track may have been an advantage.
Following the running of Race 4 the track was upgraded to Dead.
RACE 5: TOOHEYS OLD HANDICAP – 1000M.
On jumping away the saddle on MAID DANE shifted back placing K Pope at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
Shortly after the start FELIX THE MAN and MISS DARBONNAIRE made contact.
B Stewart rider of FAIRY QUEEN was severely reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear of VARNA resulting in VARNA having to be steadied approaching the 900 metres.
Approaching the 800 metres MISS DARBONNAIRE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BON MATRICE.
RACE 6: TOOHEYS NEW HANDICAP – 1600M.
DIOCLES was obliged to race wide in the early stages.
WITH INTENT raced three wide throughout.
RACE 7: XXXX GOLD HANDICAP – 1200M.
Approaching the 50 metres FARCICAL shifted in and away from LORD EVIL causing CANALETTO to be steadied.
RACE 8: CASTLEMAINE PERKINS HANDICAP – 1200M.
As N Jolly was to be 1/2kg overweight due to his gear being saturated because of the inclement weather Stewards permitted C Kearney as the replacement rider for MOSES DRIVER.
CAPTAIN MALLORY jumped in the air at the start and lost considerable ground.
IMPORTED PRINCE jumped out at the start and made contact with OUR SHOUT.
PRIVATE BRIEFING raced wide throughout.
A post race Veterinary examination of MOSES DRIVER revealed the gelding pulled up lame in the near fore knee. Trainer Tim Hurley was advised he must produce a full Veterinary clearance and the gelding must pass an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
