GENERAL: As J Powell was indisposed the following riding replacements were approved:

RACE 1: WORK DIRECTIONS AUSTRALIA HANDICAP – 1000M.
PRINCE CHALLENGER was slow to begin.
REGAL ROCK jumped away awkwardly and shortly after the start shifted out abruptly dislodging its rider K Pope.
Trainer Andrew Williamson was advised REGAL ROCK must pass an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
Approaching the 900 metres OUR FUN had to be steadied off the heels of VULCAN NYMPH which was taken in by HOOT’S VIEW. Jockey S Killen rider of HOOT’S VIEW was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
RACE 2: OFFICE NATIONAL CALOUNDRA HANDICAP – 1400M.
CRAZY FELLA jumped away awkwardly.
CYRIL’S DERBY shifted out shortly after the start and as a result, HEAVEN’S VISION which was following, had to be steadied.
Near the 1300 metres CYRIL’S DERBY shifted out taking FREEWILL out on to STEADY FREDDY which became unbalanced.
Approaching the 1200 metres FREEWILL shifted out and away from CYRIL’S DERBY and made contact with STEADY FREDDY. As a result STEADY FREDDY became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly. BLUEES SPECIAL which raced back and to the outside of STEADY FREDDY took the heels of that horse and fell. As Stewards were of the opinion that no rider was at fault no action was taken.
Near the 300 metres POWER AND DESIRE had to be steadied off the heels of LILY FILOU which shifted out under pressure.
A post race Veterinary examination of BLUES SPECIAL failed to reveal any abnormality however trainer Ted Harden was advised a Veterinary certificate must be obtained for the gelding prior to its next race start.
Trainer M Mair was advised that POWER AND DESIRE which bled during the event will now incur a three month ban from racing..
Following the running of race 2 jockey M Carson was stood down by the Club Doctor from his further riding engagements and was replaced as follows:

RACE 3: MEN AT WORK LABOUR HIRE HANDICAP – 1200M.
BRASH, OUR ALTERNATOR and MR SNAPPY all jumped away awkwardly.
LE JESTER and HI KEA were both slow to begin.
Making the 800 metres turn HENRY THE OCTOPUS shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of MYARBEE.
Approaching the 700 metres BRASH was tightened for room by MR SNAPPY which was inclined to hang in. MR SNAPPY continued to hang in until after entering the straight.
NO AVAIL was inclined to hang out from the 800 metres until after entering the straight.
Near the 200 metres PALEFACE EXPRESS shifted out tightening the running of LE JESTER. Shortly after TAJ MAJALH shifted out taking PALEFACE EXPRESS out further tightening the running of LE JESTER resulting in L. Appo having to check that horse. K Pope rider of PALEFACE EXPRESS and S Galloway rider of TAJ MAJALH were both reprimanded and advised they must stop riding and straighten their mounts in similar circumstances.
A post race Veterinary examination of VOLCANIC ANGEL revealed the filly had sustained a small cut to the inside left hind fetlock.
RACE 4: TENSENS CLEANING SUPPLIES HANDICAP – 1000M.
No racing incidents.
RACE 5: CALOUNDRA INDOOR STADIUM HANDICAP – 1600M.
After passing the 300 metres BRITISH STORM was held up for clear running for a short distance.
MOROCCAN BOY was forced to race wide throughout the event.
Over the concluding stages DANIAL’S DRAMA shifted out under pressure and had to be steadied off the heels of MR. CONNOLLY.
A post race Veterinary examination of A’SQUADRO which finished near the tail of the field failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 6: MIDAS CAR CARE SYSTEMS HANDICAP – 1400M.
The explanation of trainer B McLachlan for the late rider declaration of DOOGALL’S LUCK was accepted.
RED INTRO, LUNCHTIME LEGEND and PITCH BLACK were all slow to begin.
Approaching the 500 metres LUNCHTIME LEGEND improved up on to the heels of CLANGER and had to be steadied.
RED INTRO and PITCH BLACK were obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
GET GOING was inclined to lay in in the straight.
A post race Veterinary examination of CLANGER failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 7: KAWANA NEWSAGENCY HANDICAP – 1400M.
Trainer B Brown was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for HELL RAISER by the required time.
DARK FROST, BRIEF STREET and MIDNIGHT FALCON were all slow to begin.
At the entrance to the straight HELL RAISER shifted out to improve and brushed MIDNIGHT FALCON.
Near the 400 metres PERSONNEL had to be steadied when tightened for room between GUNGADIN and BOLD MOLLY both of which shifted ground. M Rodd (GUNGADIN) and L Appo (BOLD MOLLY) were both advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
RACE 8: CALOUNDRA RSL HANDICAP – 1200M.
TRIP TO THE MOON and QUEENSBURY ROAD came together on jumping away.
BUCK WHAN was tightened for room on jumping away between CEDAR LODGE and MAKENI which shifted in.
After leaving the 1000 metres LADY SHERPA shifted in and made contact with MAKENI on two occasions.
Over the concluding stages TRIP TO THE MOON improved up on to the heels of MAKENI and had to be steadied.
Approaching the winning post BUCK WHAN had to be steadied off the heels of QUAM CLEERITER which shifted out under pressure.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of READY TO REV trainer J Wallace’s representative K Robinson stated that first up READY TO REV had found the 1000 metres too short and felt the softer track together with the further distance had suited the horse today.
When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of MAKENI
Apprentice M Rodd stated that after gaining a position outside the leader MAKENI had travelled well until placed under pressure and failed to respond to his riding in the straight. Trainer B Guy stated that although the filly had won over 1100 metres she was having her first start in five weeks and may have failed to run out the 1200 metres today.
A post race Veterinary examination of MAKENI revealed the filly to be suffering slight respiratory distress. MAKENI was sent to be swabbed.
