RACE 1: ALLROAD SURFACES HANDICAP – 1800M.
As the start was effected INTREPID SEA ducked its head which resulted in its rider C Whiteley becoming unbalanced and also causing the horse to lose ground.
THE FORECASTER jumped in at the start inconveniencing both CANNY NORTHERNER and CAPE.
At the 250 metres ALL HANDS ON DECK was hampered when cramped for room between THE FORECASTER and CEDDIE both of which shifted ground slightly.
Over the concluding stages K Mahoney was prevented from being able to fully test THE FORECASTER due to the gelding’s tendency to lay out under pressure.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUSIE TELLS ALL which compounded badly from the 600 metres despite being hard ridden, jockey S Thurlow stated that the only excuse he could offer was that the filly today raced like a tired horse. Trainer B McLachlan confirmed that SUSIE TELLS ALL would be sent for an immediate spell.
A Veterinary examination of SUSIE TELLS ALL subsequent to the event failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 2: SPC CLEANING SERVICE HANDICAP – 1000M.
Trainer Nigel Gaske was fined the sum of $100 for failing to effect a transfer of ownership for ALL HANDS ON DECK.
MR SHADY which was very fractious in the enclosure prior to the event and during the preliminary was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
Following the event it was noted MR SHADY had lost the near hind plate during the event.
MR SHADY jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground at the start. Trainer C Hickey was advised that MR SHADY must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
As the gates opened FLIRTING RULES began very awkwardly making heavy contact with the inside gate and as a consequence lost considerable ground. Stable foreman B Hill was advised FLIRTING RULES must pass a further barrier test prior to its next race start.
ALL HANDS ON DECK was slow to begin.
Apprentice B Albuino rider of FLIRTING RULES which tailed off throughout the event was admonished for failing to adequately test that filly in the straight.
Following the running of race 2 the track was upgraded to GOOD.
RACE 3: MIX FM HANDICAP – 1600M.
Due to a typographical error Kylie Gray was shown as the rider of CLOLEFIN where as in fact the gelding was ridden by Mathew Gray.
Passing the 1200 metres BLUES SPECIAL had to be checked off the heels of TRISTRAM GREY which in turn had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WESTERN ARMI which shifted in at that stage.
As a consequence of BLUES SPECIAL losing ground ROYAL ARCHWAY also had to be restrained by its rider S Galloway.
RACE 4: SUNCOAST CHIROPRACTIC CENTRE – 1300M.
GARRICK was slow to begin.
Approaching the home turn both NO STOP LOSS and MISHAEL improved to the inside of the heels of LEICA KAAPTIVE where there was restricted room for two horses. When LEICA KAAPTIVE, which was racing ungenerously, shifted in slightly MISHAEL had to be checked at the 500 metres.
Passing the 150 metres RIADOT became awkward when tightened for room between MISTER DE BALI which shifted out under pressure and MIKAN which shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip. As a consequence of becoming awkward RIADOT shifted in which resulted in LOS GATOS striking the heels of that horse and blundering badly.
Stewards accepted that Michael Carson rider of MISTER DE BALI had made sufficient endeavour to straighten his mount and whilst conceding that his mount had shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip M Rodd rider of MIKAN was nonetheless urged to make more endeavour in similar circumstances to keep his mount straight.
RACE 5: TYRES GALORE CALOUNDRA HANDICAP – 1300M.

RACE 7: AMMEL CHERRYPICKER HIRE HANDICAP – 1400M.
QUAM CLEERITER was slow to begin.
A post race Veterinary examination of QUAM CLEERITER failed to reveal any abnormality. M Rodd had reported that the filly had felt shortly short in its action during the event.
Apprentice K Cunningham was questioned regarding her riding of BUCK WHAN on the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
She stated that BUCK WHAN was a horse that appreciated being brought into the open and she had been intent on getting to the outside on the gelding however she was always in a position where she was held up with runners to her outside preventing her from gaining clear running.
When questioned in particular as to why she did not attempt to track the ultimate winner TOPPA inside the 400 metres she added she did not feel her mount could accelerate sufficiently at that stage to take advantage of the opportunity.
Subsequently K Cunningham was reprimanded by Stewards for her lack of initiative in the early stages of the straight in that she did not ride with sufficient urgency to follow TOPPA when there was a clear run between KAAPBET on her inside and ZAMCAY to her outside. This ultimately presented KAAPBET with the opportunity to shift out and obtain a position in advance of BUCK WHAN near the 300 metres. Thereafter BUCK WHAN was held up for some distance until near the 100 metres.
A post race Veterinary examination of BUCK WHAN revealed the gelding was exhibiting slight lameness in the off foreleg.
RACE 8: NUMBER ONE BAR & RESTAURANT HANDICAP – 1300M.
RARE SPARKLE was slow to begin.
MELLING jumped away awkwardly.
For a short distance near the 300 metres RARE SPARKLE was impeded for a run between PETE’S WAY and SNOOPS.
A post race Veterinary inspection of SNOOPS revealed the gelding to be displaying slight joint soreness in both forelegs. Trainer J Grech was advised a Veterinary Certificate must be obtained for SNOOPS prior to its next race start.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
