RACE 1: THE MAGAZINE PUBLISHING COMPANY – 1200M.

As G Colless was delayed in traffic and unable to fulfil his engagement on ST DAN he was replaced by C Whiteley.

Approaching the 800 metres BELLISSIMO MISS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LOUIS THE LIP which shifted in. B Stewart rider of LOUIS THE LIP was reprimanded and advised to be two lengths clear when shifting ground.

Approaching the home turn LOUIS THE LIP shifted out to improve forcing ST DAN, CRAIGLEA QUEEN and BELLISSIMO MISS wider on the track.

MAC’S PRINCESS ran wide making the 800 metres turn.

RACE 2: SLADE BLOODSTOCK HANDICAP – 1300M.

SARA DANE jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

TRAVEL AFAR was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

M Dale reported that the saddle on BELLE PATRICIA shifted forward during the event.


Following the running of Race 2 the track rating was upgraded to GOOD.

RACE 3: AUSSIE WORLD HANDICAP – 1300M.

After being difficult to load AXIAL was slow to begin.

HIGH SPY jumped away awkwardly then shifted in making heavy contact with SPENBAR PRINCE.

Near the 1100 metres BRASH had to be restrained to avoid the heels of SPENBAR PRINCE which shifted in.

Approaching the 800 metres NORTHERN ROCKET shifted in despite the efforts of its rider S Seamer and brushed the running rail, then shifted out hampering ARABIAN GIFT. As a result SPENBAR PRINCE which was following was hampered.


Jockey Justin Haitana rider of AXIAL was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of KAYHILL causing that gelding to be severely checked.
J Haitana was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence immediately and to expire at midnight on Saturday 5th April 2003.

After leaving the 800 metres ARABIAN GIFT was hampered when tightened for room by JARABU which shifted in. G. Colless rider of JARABU was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear then shifting ground.

RACE 4: CALOUNDRA BLOCKS HANDICAP – 1600M.

TRUMP OF COLOGNE was slow to begin.

PITCH BLACK was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

Near the 1200 metres AMAIZCAY shifted out from behind the heels of KNIGHTLY DISPLAY making contact with SACRA CLAUSE forcing that gelding wider on the track.

KNIGHTLY DISPLAY was held up for clear running near the 300 metres behind the tiring TRUMP OF COLOGNE.

RACE 5: GLOBAL TELEVISION HANDICAP – 1600M.

Acting on Veterinary advice MINORITY was declared a late scratching at 9.45am.

RACE 6: CRONAU ENTERPRISES PLANT HIRE HANDICAP – 1400M.

Due to transport difficulties and a subsequent telephone call from trainer Chris Edgar IANANGER was declared a late scratching at 12.40pm.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by B Swanton rider of 4th placed RARE SPARKLE against BOONGALA ridden by apprentice Gay being declared 2nd alleging interference in the straight.
It was established that whilst BOONGALA had shifted out and taken RARE SPARKLE wider on the track the interference suffered by RARE SPARKLE was not sufficient to warrant a reversal of placings and therefore the objection was dismissed..

On jumping away RARE SPARKLE shifted in and made contact with RETIREMENT DAY.

HIS DESTINY was obliged to race wide throughout the event and finished a distant last. Trainer I O’Neill advised the gelding would be immediately spelled.
A post race Veterinary examination of HIS DESTINY failed to reveal any abnormality.

RARE SPARKLE lost the off fore plate during the event.

RACE 7: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE HANDICAP – 1200M.

Trainer I O’Neill was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for RELEVANCE by the required time.

CEDAR LODGE shifted out on jumping away taking HOOFER out on to JIMMY WALASKO.

Apprentice Con Karakatsanis rider of CEDAR LODGE accidentally dropped his whip near the 100 meters.

FINAL STORM was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

RACE 8: HOURIGAN’S RETRAVISION HANDICAP – 1000M.

As apprentice C Spry was indisposed he was replaced on SIR NARMI by apprentice D Gay.

DA VANTI jumped away awkwardly and made contact with KAVORT.

Shortly after the start MONICA EL shifted in and made contact with KAVORT.

Near the 700 metres ZOOBINI shifted in slightly resulting in IN THE JUNGLE which was pulling hard, shifting away from that runner resulting in MONICA EL having to be checked when taken on to the hind quarters of BILLY JARRAH.

MIDNIGHT FALCON was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

Jockey R Hancock rider of CHIEFODEON was reprimanded for using an excessive amount of whip on a horse out of contention.





All winners were sent to be swabbed.
