S.C.T.C. STEWARDS REPORT SUN. 1.06.03

PANEL: Mr G Ireland (Chairman), Mr D Collingwood, Mr C McLune, Mr W Geggie.

WEATHER: Overcast
TRACK RATING: Heavy.

RACE 1: FIRSTHOLME APPRECIATION HANDICAP - 1200M.

As jockey N Day was indisposed he was replaced on SAHARA SEA by jockey R Morris.

A short distance after the start SPECIAL EFFORTS had to be steadied when tightened for room between LORD RUPERT and PRINCE CARTIER which shifted out slightly.

When questioned regarding the somewhat disappointing performance of PRINCE CARTIER apprentice M Rodd stated the gelding failed to handle the track conditions today.

RACE 2: WEARING CARRYING COMPANY PLATE - 1400M.

Trainer Rhonda Inglis was advised that CAPTAIN KILOMETRE which bled during the event, will now incur the mandatory three month ban from racing.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MONKEY PUZZLE jockey A Kennedy stated that the filly had performed competitively at its two previous runs on rain affected tracks and he was at a loss to explain today's performance. He further stated MONKEY PUZZLE was placed under pressure shortly after jumping and failed to respond to his riding at any stage of the event.
Trainer Lesley Dennett stated the filly had worked well leading up to today's event and felt that the horse would perform soundly and was also at a loss to explain the performance. Trainer L Dennett undertook to report anything to Stewards that may come to light in the coming days that may explain today's performance. She further stated the filly would now be spelled.

When questioned regarding the change of riding tactics adopted on THE GREY TIGER today trainer P Cunningham stated that at its most recent start, which was also the first start for the stable, the gelding failed to show speed in the early stages of the event and had to be steadied near the 800 metres as a result of steading off heels.
Apprentice K Cunningham stated that in today's event THE GREY TIGER jumped away satisfactorily and travelled well in the early stages. She further stated that when caught wide nearing the 800 metres turn and due to the lack of speed to her inside she elected to go forward and take up a forward position. Their explanations were noted.

RACE 3: NOOSA FIRST REAL ESTATE HANDICAP - 1000M.

Acting on Veterinary advice ROBERT DEE was declared a late scratching at 1.47pm when the gelding became fractious in the barriers and struck its head. After being released from the barriers the gelding was found to have blood in its mouth.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on ROBERT DEE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 12c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 11c in the dollar on the face value of place bets being applicable.
Trainer Tom Bourke was advised a Veterinary clearance must be obtained for ROBERT DEE prior to its next race start and also a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its barrier manners.

GOLD LOGIE was slow to begin.

RACE 4: JOE RICHARDS MENSWEAR HANDICAP - 1000M.

MISTY TYCOON was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start BEAUCITY shifted in and bumped DIGRESS.

RACE 5: QUEENSLAND OWNERS & BREEDERS ASSOCIATION HANDICAP - 1000M.

STATUM jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

MIRROR was slow to begin.

CHANNON SPIRIT was inclined to lay in during the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of INDIGESTION jockey S Galloway stated the gelding failed to handle the heavy track conditions today.

RACE 6: GARRY OWEN PARK RACING WELFARE 9UK0 HANDICAP - 1200M.

As jockey Aaron Kennedy was to be overweight he was replaced on WEEKENDZOFF by jockey L Appo.
A Kennedy was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

MOBY and WEEKENDZOFF both jumped away awakardly.

HILLGROVE EXPRESS was held up rounding the home turn behind DA VANTI.

RACE 7: WANLESS WASTECORP 'J.F. 9JIM0 MCGILL MEMORIAL HANDICAP - 1300M.

SPACE RECRUIT jumped away awkwardly.

TWILIGHT YEARS which was a little slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start by REALE D'OR which shifted out.

Near the 800 metres REALE D'OR shifted in and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

Near the 300 metres REALE D'OR was inclined to shift out under pressure and as a result took ELECT A SONG out on to TWILIGHT YEARS which had to be steadied.

RACE 8: QUEENSLAND IRISH ASSOCIATION 'L.MERVYN FOX MEMORIAL' HANDICAP - 1600M.

Passing the 1300 metres STOLL MOSS shifted in and as a result BIDDADDABA which was following had to be steadied.

For a short distance after entering the straight GLADWILL was held up for clear running behind OCCULAR and CROMBIE.

Approaching the 200 metrs SIGHTED had to be steadied off the heels of BIDDADDABA which shifted in under pressure.



All winners plus CAPTAIN KILOMETRE (Race 2) were sent to be swabbed.
