At the same time RAPID VICTORY, BRISKLY and HAVE NO FEAR were all crowded for room inside SAPPHIRE PRINCE which shifted in momentarily.
In this incident RAPID VICTORY brushed the running rail and lost ground.

An inquiry was opened into the reason M Dale was dislodged from SAPPHIRE PRINCE in this event. It was established that inside the 800 metres POWER AND DESIRE shifted in and brushed the running rail then shifted out abruptly. HARAGA which was racing to the outside of POWER AND DESIRE balked and also shifted out abruptly resulting in SAPPHIRE PRINCE, which was following, striking the heels of HARAGA and blundering dislodging its rider.
HABITUE and EL EARL which were following were both hampered as a result of attempting to avoid the fallen rider.
Stewards deemed that no rider was at fault and this incident was accidental.

Rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight HABITUE was hampered by the riderless SAPPHIRE PRINCE.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason HAVE NO FEAR raced without blinkers in this event when it had been advertised as a gear change. After taking evidence from trainer J Collins' stable foreperson N Putney the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed to enable trainer Collins to be interviewed.
