RACE 1:QRSE L J HOOKER CHANCELLOR PARK H'CAP - 2200M.
MISS CICERAO jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with I'M UNFORGETTABLE.
The saddle on MISS CICERAO shifted forward approaching the 1400m., which placed L. Wray at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
RACE 2: SWANSTON & ASSOCIATES LAWYERS H'CAP - 1300M.
SAHARA JAY jumped outwards at the start, taking CHUCK'S HIT out on to JAROSLAV.
MIDDLE CLASS began awkwardly.
ARABIAN GIFT had a tendency to overrace in the early stages of the event.
At the entrance to the straight, SAHARA JAY shifted out to improve from behind the tiring MR. GRAND and forced THE HOA LONG DANCE wider on the track.
M. Cant, rider of WESTON LAKE, accidentally dropped his whip near the 175m..
SAHARA JAY shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 3: L J HOOKER PROPERTY MANAGEMENT KAWANA WATERS H'CAP - 1300M.
KOKONIE, which worked hard in the preliminary, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
On jumping, SAMSON WARRIOR shifted out, taking CLASSIC MOVIE out on to DONNA FIORI.
Approaching the 600m., CLASSIC MOVIE shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, hampering TINGRI and DONNA FIORI.
A veterinary examination of PASSIVE IMAGE following the event revealed the filly to be lame in the off hind leg.
RACE 4: BATTERY WORLD SUNSHINE COAST H'CAP - 1600M.
MISS LEHAAR was slow to begin.
Passing the 800m., MISS LEHAAR had to be steadied off the heels of DOONAN DANCER.
LEICA WINNER was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
M. Cant reported that BERNIE'S STAR hung out throughout the event.
RACE 5: L J HOOKER COMMERCIAL SUNSHINE H'CAP - 1000M.
M. Cant regarding the riding tactics he adopted on PATPONG in the early stages of the event. M. Cant stated that after missing the start from the inside gate, he considered it was in the best interests of his mount to balance the mare in the early stages instead of bustling to hold his positon to the inside of MR CHVEY. M. Cant further added that after settling, PATPONG then began to travel strongly, however he was unable to improve between the 600m. and the home turn when racing in restricted room to the inside of FAIRY QUEEN, which was taken in slightly by MIGHTY CROSSING.
Apprentice M. Rice was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ILLUMINAR. M. Rice stated that the mare never travelled well throughout the race and failed to respond to his riding in the straight, and in his opinion raced very disappointingly. A veterinary examination of ILLUMINAR failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 6: QRSE AUSTRAL BUSINESS MACHINES H'CAP - 1600M.
Trainer L. Birchley was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for CANNY CRUISE by the prescribed time.
Trainer H. Wilson was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for HUMAN NATURE by tghe required time.
MY ANNUITY was a late scratching at 3.09 p.m. on veterinary advice after the gelding injured itself in its race day stall. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on MY ANNUITY were ordered to be refunded, with deductins of 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets,14 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
App. B. Smith, rider of HUMAN NATURE, was reprimanded for failing to claim his full allowance on that gelding.
J. Warrington, rider of KENMONT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 300m., he permitted his mount to shift in to improve when insufficiently clear of MUKQUIN, resulting in MUKQUIN having to be checked and lose its position. J. Warrington was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 23 May, and to expire at midnight, 9 June 2004.
Passing the 200m., FASHION JEWELS and KENMONT were hampered between CANNY CRUISE and HUMAN NATURE, which was taken in by GOLD KING. D.. Green, rider of GOLD KING, was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
N. Day, rider of CANNY CRUISE, was reprimanded for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
RACE 7: L J HOOKER KAWANA WATERS H'CAP - 1400M.
BRAVE GENTLEMAN was slow to begin.
Nearing the 700m., MOSSAIRE shifted out to improve and made contact with the tiring ANOTHER BELT.
IN COBARGO and ALLY BEE were both hampered at the start between GRACEFUL PRINCE and UNISTAR, both of which shifted ground.
ELDWICK, which was overracing, had to be restrained off the heels of BRAVE GENTLEMAN for some distance passing the 1200m..
Passing the 600m., ALLY BEE improved up on to the heels of IN COBARGO and had to be steadied.
Over the concluding stages, GLASSHOUSE shifted in, making contact with GRACEFUL PRINCE, which in turn shifted in, making contact with MS MAGENTA.
MR CHIPS was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
RACE 8: OFFICE NATIONAL CALOUNDRA H'CAP - 1200M.
The official scratching sheet provided by the Sunshine Coast Turf Club showed the scratchings for race 8 as being: No. 5 - ANOTHER GLANCE, No. 10 - CILL AIRNE'S GHOST, and third emergency No. 21. MAID DANE. Prior to the running of race 7, it was brought to the stewards' attention that No. 11 - DESERT SAMBA, trained by D. Gafa, had failed to arrive on course, and that MAID DANE, the third emergency trained by T. Miller, had arrived on course. Stewards, after taking evidence from trainer T. Miller and SCTC CEO Secretary Mick Sullivan, declared No. 21 MAID DANE a late scratching at 4.20 p.m.. The official race scratching sheet from Racing Services Bureau, which was viewed by stewards on the Queensland Racing Website at 4.05 p.m., showed DESERT SAMBA as a scratching at 7.30 a.m.. Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into this matter to a time and date to be fixed.
The starting time for this event was rescheduled from 4.34 p.m. to 4.45 p.m..
CARLINO and FINAL PREP both reared on jumping away.
INTER THE FRAY began awkwardly and made heavy contact with PRANG.
Approaching the 800m., VOLCANIC ANGEL commenced to overrace and when being restrained off the heels of TARATA BAY, shifted out and made contact with TRINITY ROSE. At the same stage, KOONUNGA HILL had to be steadied off the heels of MUSHOOD, shifted out and made heavy contact with PRANG, which was forced wider on the track.
Approaching the 300m., TANAMI MISS improved up on to the heels of VOLCANIC ANGEL and had to be steadied and alter course.
AERO BELLE was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
