GENERAL: As M. Bennett, G. Colless, G. McKeon and S. McDonald were indisposed/injured, the following riding replacements were approved.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for trainer M. Thexton failing to scratch ASTRA CITI (Race 6) and PARABOLA (Race 7) by the prescribed time. Subsequently both horses were declared late scratchings at 10.50 a.m.

Apprentice jockey R. McMahon was fined $100 for failing to produce a letter of authority from his master to ride at today's meeting. (LR 58)

RACE 1: BELL'S TRANSPORT QTIS H'CAP - 1400M.

STAR CHARIOT jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of FEAR THE COUNT. A short distance later, STAR CHARIOT commenced to buck and shifted to the outside running rail and tailed the field for the remainder of the event. Trainer L. Ross was advised that STAR CHARIOT would be required to pass a series of barrier trials prior to racing again.




RACE 2: FLOWCRETE MAIDEN PLATE - 1200M.

Passing the 600m., OBVIOUSLY NORTH got its head in the air and commenced to race ungenerously when K. Cunningham attempted to restrain the gelding. MERINDA , CANADIAN KATE, QUESTION ME NOT and BLOSSOMS TODAY, which were following, all had to be steadied in this incident.

GINOMISS and BEATTIE'S VICTORY were both obliged to race in a 3-wide position for the majority of the event.


RACE 3: SCOTT JESSOP BRICKLAYING H'CAP - 1600M.

Trainer K. Pattillo was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for LION'S REIGN by the prescribed time.

BLUEBERRY AVENUE and NOTHIN LEICA DREAM were slow to begin.

FINAL JOURNEY jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, DANSMATIC and PARAMO were hampered between SILKEN POWER, which shifted out, and LION'S REIGN, which shifted in.

IN EXTREMIS and OUSTING were obliged to race in a 3-wide position for the majority of the event.


RACE 4: BELL BROS. PAVING PTY LTD H'CAP - 1200M.

On jumping, POETIC HEIGHTS had to be checked between MR CHEVY, which shifted out, and LATE FOR TEA, which was taken in by DOOGALL'S LUCK.

When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on POETIC HEIGHTS, S. Katsidis stated he was instructed to allow the horse to jump out and find its feet in the early and middle stages, however after being checked at the start, he was obliged to race further back in the field than anticipated. He added that between the 1000m. and home turn he raced in a rearward position behind CHINHOYI and TOBIANA when unable to improve until after entering the straight. S. Katsidis further added that he gained an inside run in the straight, however due to being back in the field he was unable to make any significant ground on the leaders. A subsequent veterinary examination of POETIC HEIGHTS failed to reveal any abnormalty. S. Katsidis's comments were noted.


RACE 5: BURKES PAVER-WORLD H'CAP - 1000M.

SNAP ON and ANLEZARK were slow to begin.

Passing the 600m., SNAP ON shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of TENT.

A short distance after entering the straight, COGNISANT shifted out to improve, taking CARDCHEETA and RECHARIA'S GIRL wider on the track. At the same stage, SILVER HOPE shifted out and away from those runners, which resulted in INTER THE FRAY having to be steadied off the heels of SILVER HOPE.

J. Byrne was questioned in regards to the performance of CARDCHEETA. J. Byrne stated he was instructed to position the gelding midfield, however began well and he was obliged to race in a more forward position. J. Byrne added however that when placed under pressure in the straight, CARDCHEETA changed strides on a number of occasions and failed to respond to his riding. J. Byrne's comments were noted. A veterinary examination of CARDCHEETA following the event revealed the gelding to be suffering from a respiratory disorder. Trainer's representative Mr G. Bath was advised that CARDCHEETA would be required to trial satisfactorily and a veterinary clearance provided prior to its next race start.



RACE 6: SURELINE TRANSPORT H'CAP - 1400.

LARVALEUR was slow to begin.

ART STUDENT had a tendency to overrace in the early stages of the event when being restrained.

Passing the 200m., DISPORTS, after reaching the lead, shifted in under pressure, taking UMAPRINCE in on to ART STUDENT.

Apprentice R. McMahon was fined $50 for failing to weigh in 4th on ART STUDENT. (AR144)

A veterinary examination of ARABIAN GIFT failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 7: QRSE HANSON MASONARY H'CAP - 1600M.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into F. Sendon's failure to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement on ARIANNE GAL. Subsequently, A. Gain was substituted as the rider of ARIANNE GAL.

ARIANNE GAL was slow to begin.

L'ELEVE and MONCHERO made contact on jumping away.

L'ELEVE had a tendency to overrace in the early and middle stages.

HIGHLAND STORM was held up for clear running for the majority of the straight.

SINGULAR was obliged to race wide for the entire event.





RACE 8: LINDSAY'S SAND & GRAVEL H'CAP - 1400M.

On pulling up, M. McDonald was dislodged from KALINGA METAL.

SURESCAY bled during the event. SURESCAY will now be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from SURESCAY.






All winners and SURESCAY were sent to be swabbed.
