RACE 1: MELLUM MADNESS HAIR 3YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE - 1800M.

YANADA MUNDARA and OBVIOUSLY NORTH were slow to begin.

During the early stages NOTHIN LEICA DREAM, which appeared to jump well, was then slow to muster speed and was ridden hard around the outside of the field to obtain the lead near the 1200m..

CLANG EDITION overraced in the early stages.

DARKWOOD LODGE was obliged to race wide during the early stages.

Approaching the home turn, CORONATION STAR momentarily shifted in, crowding MAKTIGICHI DALFAIR in on to CLANG EDITION, which was momentarily steadied.

A veterinary examination of YANADA MUNDARA, which performed poorly, failed to reveal any abnormality. The connections undertook to report to stewards the results of pathology tests to be carried out on the gelding.

Trainer M. Lakey reported that HAPPY ROSIE, poste race, had traces of blood from both nostrils. As this was the first bleeding attack for HAPPY ROSIE, the mare was barred from racing for a period of 3 months under AR53A.


RACE 2: JOHN-PAUL MOULD SOLICITORS MAIDEN H'CAP - 1300M.

Due to a misunderstanding, G. Baker was declared as the rider of DRURY LANE and WATCH MY DUST. M. Carson was substituted as the rider of DRURY LANE.

Whilst parading for this event, MUSIC MASTER became fractious, dislodging C. Whiteley. C. Whiteley then struck MUSIC MASTER with his hand whilst attempting to remount. C. Whiteley was reprimanded and instructed to make himself aware of Queensland Racing policy regarding matters of this nature should the situation occur again.

At the start, DANCING BUBBLES and STAR CHARIOT came together and bumped, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

Approaching the 1200m., DRURY LANE shifted in momentarily crowding TRIKWILA, which had to be steadied from that mare's heels. Jockey M. Carson, rider of DRURY LANE, was instructed to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in future..

Rounding the home turn, GREAT SUMMER was momentarly taken wider when OVERTOTHREE shifted out.

At the 400m., MUSIC MASTER attempted to make ground and came into contact with GERAT SUMMER, which momentarily shifted in, resulting in both runners bumping.


RACE 3: DAIRY FARMERS 3YO & UP MAIDEN H'CAP - 1000M.

YOUNG MARINER was slow to begin.

Approaching the 700m., YOUNG MARINER, whilst overracing, shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of DREWLICIOUS.

Near the 600m., ULINGA BAY was overracing.

Making the home turn, SPECIAL LYRIC had to be eased off the heels of RISEUPSINGING, which was taken in momentarily by SPECIAL LYRIC.

FASILDANE was disappointed for a run inside ULINGA BAY shortly after leaving the 400m..

Approaching the 100m., ULINGA BAY, whilst under pressure, shifted in, momentarily crowding SPECIAL LYRIC, which was obliged to steady. Jockey L. Appo, rider of ULINGA BAY, was instructed to exercise more care when in a similar situation.


RACE 4: CALOUNDRA CITY CONCIL/CALOUNDRA CHEMMART PHARMACY C & G CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1400M.

Trainer M. Lakey was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for HEIR TO THE CROWN, by the prescribed time.

DARK AND DISCREET jumped awkwardly and lost consderable ground.

CHAIRMAN MEOW was slow to begin.

The club's veterinary surgeon poste race reported that ZARIBAN had been galloped on on the near hind leg and was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer D. Peoples was advised that he would have to provide a veterinary clearance for ZARIBAN prior to its next race start.






RACE 5: RAINE & HORNE CALOUNDRA/BARBER ELECTRICAL CLASS 2 H'CAP 1200M.

ZAGIMMIE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start.

JO BRO was momentarily slow to begin.

RETRIBUTION jumped awkwardly at the start and shifted out, brushing PHILLY.

Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 500m. in which PHILLY was crowded to the inside of RETRIBUTION, which was racing to the inside of POWER PACIFIC. After taking evidence from all 3 riders, it was established that RETRIBUTION had a tenedency to hang in and away from POWER PACIFICA, and in doing so crowded PHILLY, which was checked and lost some ground. No aciton was taken against any one rider, however all riders were advised to exercise care when in a similar position.

MONTE CAVALLO was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages, along with POWER PACIFIC.

WARM FUZZIES was under pressure inside the final 200m and failed to run on.


RACE 6: KAWANA BETTA ELECTRIAL/FISHER & PAYKEL OPEN H'CAP - 1300M.

Due to a misunderstanding, D. Griffin was listed as the rider of GLEN MONARCH and was subsequently replaced by S. Galloway.

A warning was placed on REGAL TYCOON, which became untractable shortly after the start. At a subsequent inquiry, trainer B. Thornton indicted that REGAL TYCOON will now be retired.

CEFFYL, which was overracing approaching the 1000m., became awkward on the heels of CANADIAN TIME, and when steadied got its head up and lost ground.

DISTINCTLY overraced in the early stages and was caught wide throughout.

Shortly after straightening, DISTINCTLY became awkward on the heels of MAY ROYAL when under pressure and was steadied.

M. Smith-Lester, rider of MAY ROYAL, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out shortly before the finish line, and in doing so crowded TYCOON ROSE out on to SKI THE TIDE, resulting in TYCOON ROSE having to be checked.


RACE 7: THE HOMESTYLE BAKE CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1600M.

Apprentice A. Best, rider of CARRY ON ACE, was reprimanded for failing to produce a letter of authority from his master, trainer Mr B. Guy.

MOON ECHO, LINDHOLME and CARRY ON ACE were all tightened for room at the start between SCHNEIDEN and HEAVEN'S QUEST, which jumped outwards at the start.

Shorlty after the start, LINDHOLME and MOON ECHO made heavy contact. In this incident, CARRY ON ACE had to be eased to avoid the heels of LINDHOLME, which shifted out when unbalanced.

S. Drake, rider of LINDHOLME, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that she allowed her mount to shift in near the 500m. when insufficiently clear of MOON ECHO, which was taken in on to SCHNEIDEN, resulting in SCHNEIDEN being checked and making heavy contact with the running rail. S. Drake was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 10 October, and to expire at midnight, 24 October 2004.



RACE 8: CALTEX CURRIMUNDI F & M CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1400M.

Trainer L. Wheeler was fined the sum of $100 for failing to scratch IVORS LASS by the prescribed time.

Trainer S. Strazzieri was fined the sum of $100 for failing to scratch RIVER FEVER by the prescribed time.

Trainer J. Johnston's explanation for failing to nominate a rider for REGAL DRAW by the prescribed time was accepted by stewards.

Prior to the race, RICH MIXTURE was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

SUMMER OF LOVE became awkward racing on the heels of OFFICE GOSSIP rounding the home turn and was checked.

CANNY NORTHERNER raced wide throughout the race. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice K. Smith, in the presence of her master, Mrs G. Harrison, was admonished and instructed that in future she must show more initiative when in similar circumstances.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
