Race 1: Hanson Construction Materials Maiden H'cap - 1600m.
1st - Coleyville Road 2nd - Boxing Day 3rd - Golden Dollars 4th - Chulainn
Apprentice B. Hull was fined $300 for claiming only 1.5 kilograms of his 2 kilogram allowance on BIG BAZZA, DOWN THE LINE (Race 4) and DANGEROUS HOST (Race 5).
Approaching the first turn, BIG BAZZA (B. Hull) commenced to overrace and then shifted out, making heavy contact with CHULAIN (K. Wharton). BIG BAZZA then continued to race ungenerously for some distance.
At the 600m., GOLDEN DOLLARS (R. Mason), which was inclined to lay out, made contact with TRIBAL MASK (A. Merritt). GOLDEN DOLLARS contined to lay out rounding the home turn.
Near the 300m., COLEYVILLE ROAD (R. Pittman) had to be steadied off the heels of APRIMADONNA (K. Pope), which shifted in.
Near the 250m., APRIMADONNA (K. Pope) shifted out to improve and made contact with TRIBAL MASK.
At the 250m., OVERTOTHREE (B. El-Issa) was tightened for room by BOXING DAY (J. Taylor), which was inclined to lay in. J. Taylor, rider of BOXING DAY, was advsied to exercise more care.
Race 2: Lindsay's Sand & Gravel Class 3 H'cap - 1400m.
1st - Allambie 2nd - King Cartier 3rd - Oh Raw Oh Raw 4th - Jokingly
MR KISEKI (D. Green) commenced to lay out near the 800m., and continued to lay out entering the straight.
Approaching the 500m., JOKINGLY (M. Radecker) shifted out slightly and brushed KING CARTIER (B. El-Issa).
Race 3: Flowcrete Contructions 3yo & Up Maiden Plate - 1200m.
1st - Newmarket 2nd - Commentary 3rd - Justdane 4th - Girl Of The West
NEWMARKET (L. Fyfe) jumped outwards at the start, making contact wtih DISCO KEN (M. Radecker), forcing that gelding out on to CAWDOR BULLET (G. Colless).
COMMENTARY (T. Pannell) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with GIRL OF THE WEST (L. Deguara).
NEWMARKET (L. Fyfe) commenced to overrace near the 800m. and shifted out. The horse again raced ungenerously leaving the 600m. and had to be checked off the heels of GIRL OF THE WEST (L. Deguara).
Race 4: Bells Brothers Paving Class 1 H'cap - 1000m.
1st - Alladdins Lion 2nd - Miss Haversham 3rd - Top's Lad 4th - Mavournin
Trainer M. Thexton was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for ALADDINS LION by the prescribed time.
MAVOURNIN (K. Pope), ROOM WITH A VIEW (M. Usher) and DOWN THE LINE (B. Hull) were all tightened at the start between CLANG GOES THEBELL (L. Deguara) and ALADDINS LION (B. El-Issa) when both horses shifted ground. As a result of this tightening, ROOM WITH A VIEW lost its position.
Race 5: Sureline Transport Class 4 H'cap - 1000m.
1st - Deputy Deal 2nd - Sunny Paradise 3rd - See The Change 4th - Dangerous Host
DANGEROUS HOST (B. Hull) was slow to begin.
ALEYSA KAN was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon following the event and confirmed that the horse had haemorrhaged from both nostrils. Connections were advised that the mare will now be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Apprentice B. Hull, rider of DANGEROUS HOST, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 200m. he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of SEE THE CHANGE (M. Palmer), resulting in SEE THE CHANGE having to be checked across the heels of SUNNY PARADISE (K. Pope). B. Hull was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 10 August, and to expire at midnight, 20 August 2005.
Race 6: Hanson Masonry Class 2 H'cap - 1800m.
1st - Star Of Mac 2nd - Cromla 3rd - Memphis Tennessee 4th - Tatu
AWESOME DISPLAY was a late scratching at 3.24 p.m. on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered all monies invested on AWESOME DISPLAY be refunded, and deductions of 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
Rounding the home turn, DETONATES (B. Hull) shifted out and made contact wtih LITTLE LEGEND (K. Pope).
An inquiry was opened into apprentice R. Plumb's riding of ALAANA'S SONG, particularly from the 600m. until the 400m. where the horse was several lengths off the main body of the field. Trainer L. Plumb informed the inquiry that he had instructed apprentice Plumb to ride the horse back in the field and to bring the horse to the outside on straightening as it possesses a good finishing sprint. Apprentice Plumb stated that after leaving the 600m., he had commenced to urge the horse forward, however ALAANA'S SONG took some time to respond, and on getting the horse to the outside he rode it hands and heels and the horse ran home well. Stewards noted the explanations, however advised apprentice Plumb that he would be expected to show more vigour in future in putting his horses into the race from the 600m. in similar circumstances. Stewards noted trainer R. Plumb's explanation, particularly that the horse appears to be looking for races over further distance. Trainer L. Plumb also provided evidence to the inquiry of having supported the horse today.
Race 7: Bells Transcport Open H'cap - 1400m.
1st - Planagram 2nd - Prince Of Ashes 3rd - Clanger 4th - Sundae Jester
Due to a malfunction of the timing apparatus, the race was handtimed and found to be 1.23.72.
ROW BOAT (K. Pope), PRINCE STARLIGHT (M. Morris) and AMAIZCAY (M. Usher) were slow to jump.
Near the 800m., HEART OF LIGHT (M. Sano) brushed the running rail. ROW BOAT (K. Pope), which was trailing, made heavy contact with the running rail and shifted out, making contact wtih PITCH BLACK (R. Plumb).
At the 600m., SUNDAE JESTER (S.Drake) shifted out and made contact with PRINCE OF ASHES (K. Wharton).
Rounding the home turn, AMAIZCAY was held up and had to be steadied off the heels of PITCH BLACK.
M. Sano was dislodged from HEART OF LIGHT after passing the winning post when he reported that he was in some difficulty as his saddle had slipped and had run on to the heels of SUNDAE JESTER (S. Drake), which shifted ground.
Race 8: Burkes Transport Class 1 H'cap - 1300m.
1st - Limarki 2nd - Elysian Field 3rd - Mary's Me Mum 4th - Spirit Of Thong
Stewards approved a late gear change of blinkers on ZEANG. Stewards will contact the Trainers Service Centre to ascertain if this change was made by the prescribed time.
LIMARKI (R. Mason) was slow to begin.
Leaving the 700m., HEIR TO THECROWN (J. Taylor) commenced to overrace and had to be restrained off the heels of STAMFORD BRIDGE (M. Manktelow).
Rounding the home turn, MARY'S ME MUM (A. Pattillo) shifted out and had to be eased away from the heels of SUITED DANE (B. El-Issa).
