SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
As G. Farrer was injured, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Archers Body Corporate Management 3yo & Up Maiden Plate – 1000m
1st – Retainer 2nd –Lunacampo 3rd – Arcaleh 4th – Markinba
Due to transport difficulties, D. Craven was unable to fulfil his engagement on FILA JOY. K. Pope was substituted as the rider of that filly.
TAPINI GIRL (M. Rice) reared as the gates opened.
KALINGA DANCER (R. McMahon) and LUNACAMPO (T. Huxham) both began awkwardly.
Approaching the 900m, MARKIMBA (D. Van Bekkum) shifted in and made contact with JUZANA (M. Morris).
HURRICANE HANNAH (B. Pengelly) commenced to hang out from the 700m.
Approaching the 300m, TAPINI GIRL (M. Rice) shifted out, making contact with MARKIMBA, which was taken out by JUZANA (M. Morris).
Apprentice R. Plumb, rider of the winner, RETAINER, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish.
MARKIMBA (D. Van Bekkum) raced greenly throughout.
Race 2: Uber Westend 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Harlin 2nd – Donald Victor 3rd – Star Jangle 4th – Galangal
CAP RIVIERA was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon prior to the race after dislodging a tooth and was cleared to race.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 2nd placegetter, HARLIN, against DONALD VICTOR being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the official film, stewards found that DONALD VICTOR had shifted out over the concluding stages, making contact with HARLIN, resulting in that filly shifting wider on the track. After taking into account the short half head margin, stewards were of the opinion that the ground lost in the incident warranted a reversal of placings, and the Judge’s placings were altered to read: No.12 – Harlin – 1st; No. 7 Donald Victor – 2nd; No.20 Star Jangle – 3rd; No. 4 Galangal – 4th.
HARLIN (J. Byrne) reared as the gates opened.
LEGS UNDICI (L. Morrison) and SOMEWHERE SAFER (D. Griffin) were slow to begin.
CAP RIVIERA (K. Pope) and MILLY MERRAN (T. Huxham) both began awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000m, DONALD VICTOR (J. Holder) had to be steadied off the heels of GALANGAL (R. Mason) and shifted out.
BETTIN’ BILLY (M. Palmer) commenced to overrace at the 800m.
Nearing the 300m, STAR JANGLE (B. Pengelly) shifted out, making contact with CAP RIVIERA (K. Pope).
MILLY MERRAN (T. Huxham) raced greenly in the straight.
LEGS UNDICI (L. Morrison), BETTIN’ BILLY (M. Palmer) and CRYSTAL JANE (M. Rice) all raced wide throughout.
CAP RIVIERA (K. Pope) lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 3: CNW Elecgtrical & Data Supplies Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Rich In Spirit 2nd – Little Decisions 3rd – Rojah Flower 4th – Little Missy Maroo
The start was delayed when ROJAH FLOWER (D. Griffin) proved difficult to load. Trainer N. Flouskos was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare in relation to its barrier manners.
LAKOTA BELLE (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 300m, PEGUNNY BOSS (K. Pope) was disappointed for a run between DOPPELT and LILLIAN STAR (S. Shield), which shifted out. PEGUNNY BOSS then continued to be held up from approaching the 250m until leaving the 50m.
SONG BIRD (M. Manktelow) raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of DOPELT, T. Huxham stated that after beginning well and being positioned forward in the field, the gelding was reluctant to improve between runners when placed under pressure and failed to run on over the concluding stages. The explanation was noted. A post race veterinary examination of DOPELT failed to reveal any abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of WHISTLING KANE revealed no abnormalities.
Race 4: Global Television Class 2 H’cap – 1000m
1st – Kanpeki 2nd – Sammys Illusion 3rd – Private Frisco 4th – Our Wandrin Star
SEALED LIPS, which injured itself in the tie-up stalls, was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 11.55 a.m.
Trainer G. Kennedy was fined $50 for presenting KANPEKI with incorrect gear.
ENVELOPE, which was fractious and injured itself in the barriers, was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.08 p.m.. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on ENVELOPE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer T. Hall was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for ENVELOPE prior to its next race start.
PANAMA JACK (S Bogenhuber) began awkwardly and shortly after the start was tightened for room between SAMMYS ILLUSION (D. Peisley) and KANPEKI (S. Katsidis), which shifted in.
SAMMYS ILLUSION (D. Peisley) overraced in the early stages and approaching the 500m shifted out and made contact with KANPEKI (S. Katsidis).
Rounding the home turn, SAMMYS ILLUSION was held up for clear running and had to be steadied off the heels of MAZATAN (K. Pope).
Race 5: Hot 91.1 Class 1 H’cap – 1600m
1st – Davion 2nd – Hooker Road 3rd – Royal Fox 4th – Sweptronic
MEADOW WHISPER (J. Byrne) shifted in at the start, making contact with SACERDOTEE (G. McCarthy).
Passing the 1200m, MEADOW WHISPER (J. Byrne) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of THUNDER AND ICE (K. Pope). MEADOW WHISPER then raced wide in the middle and latter stages.
MAYA MAGIC (A. Erhart) raced wide in the early stages.
Approaching the 200m, SACERDOTEE improved up on to the heels of HOOKER ROAD (C. Parish) and had to be steadied.
Leaving the 200m, MAYA MAGIC (A. Erhart) had to be steadied off the heels of ROYAL FOX (L. Morrison), which shifted in.
ROYAL FOX shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 6: Men At Work Labour Hire Class 4 H’cap – 1400m
1st – A Tad Cool 2nd – La Danske 3rd – Natural Glamour 4th – The Real Rokocoko
GRAND COLOURS (L. Appo) reared as the gates opened.
ITS BOPALOUIE (A. Pattillo) jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000m, ITS BOPALOUIE raced up on to the heels of A TAD COOL (M. Cahill) and had to be steadied. GRAND COLOURS (L. Appo), which was following, also had to be steadied and then overraced for a short distance.
Nearing the 800m, A TAD COOL (M. Cahill), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of THE REAL ROKOCOKO (M. Rice).
At the 250m, A TAD COOL shifted out and made contact with MR BAADOT.
LEEDS UNITED (B. Pengelly) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers Open H’cap – 1200m
1st – San Franfrisco 2nd – Ally Bee 3rd – Triple Pe 4th – Steel Cap
At the start, ALLY BEE (A. Pattillo) was tightened for room between SLICK TRICK (K. Pope) and DIAMOND HAILEY (J. Bowditch), which shifted in.
Approaching the 800m, SHOCKEROO (A. Merritt) had to be steadied off the heels of ZOOBINI (J. Holder), which shifted in.
Approaching the 300m, DIAMOND HAILEY (J. Bowditch) had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of SHOCKEROO (A. Merritt), which shifted out.
Nearing the 150m, SHOCKEROO (A. Merritt) had to be steadied off the heels of SAN FRANVRISCO (M. Morris), which shifted in.
Approaching the 50m, LASTING LUCK (B. Pengelly) had to be steadied when racing between TRIPLE PE (R. Mason) and SAN FRANFRISCO, which shifted in. Apprentice M. Morris, rider of SAN FRANFRISCO, was reprimanded.
SAN FRANFRISCO (M. Morris) and BILLY WHIZ (M. Palmer) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of DIAMOND HAILEY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8: Griffiths Parry Lawyers Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Moglich 2nd – Streets Of Fire 3rd – Nippy 4th – Blue Jean Baby
Apprentice R. Mason was examined by the club’s doctor and stood down from her engagement on KING LYPHARD. As no apprentice jockey was available, senior jockey A. Merritt was substituted as the rider of KING LYPHARD.
COMMAND AND OBEY which was fractious in the barriers, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and declared unfit to start. COMMAND AND OBEY was declared a late scratching at 4.28 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on COMMAND AND OBEY were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 10 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer B. Brown was advised that a warning was being placed on COMMAND AND OBEY.
MY MILLIONAIRE (A. Pattillo) and MOGLICH (B. Pengelly) were tightened for room at the start between THAT’S HIM (C. Spry) and NIPPY (K. Pope), which shifted in.
Approaching the 200m, NIPPY (K. Pope) shifted out and bumped STREETS OF FIRE (J. Byrne).
ULTIMATE PASSION (O. Turpin); and SANDY’S REWARD (J. Holder) raced wide throughout.
