Near the 250m, LIBRA MAGIC shifted in away from KEVERNE, and was then briefly tightened by RED TREASURE, which shifted out slightly.

A. Pattillo (RED TREASURE) reported that he had been accidentally struck by the whip of T. Huxham (REGAL HENRY) in the run to the finish.

Both K. Pope (KEVERNE) and RED TREASURE (A. Pattillo) were reminded of their obligations to ride their mounts right out to the finish line.

S. Katsidis was questioned as to the somewhat disappointing performance of LA BELLE VITESSE and also the riding tactics adopted near the 400m. S. Katsidis stated that LA BELLE VITESSE had raced greenly in the early stages of the race, however approaching the turn he felt that whilst the filly was travelling reasonably well, he elected to take a run to the inside rather than endeavour to take a run to his outside. He added that the LA BELLE VITESSE did not feel comfortable in the heavy going and that the filly may be coming to the end of its preparation. Trainer R. Heathcote agreed that the performance of LA BELLE VITESSE was somewhat disappointing and indicated that the filly would be given a short spell.

Shortly after this incident, BAY OWL maintained its position, which resulted in CARRY ON ACE then being taken out and having to be steadied off the heels of KALINGA COUNTY.

KALINGA COUNTY (A. Pattillo), which got its head up and was inclined to race ungenerously, made the 800m turn awkwardly and shifted out, taking BAY OWL (J. Taylor) wider.

Leaving the 800m, MINI MATILDA (M. Rice) was inclined to lay out and near the 600m was cramped for room by KALINGA COUNTY, which continued to race ungenerously.
