Race 1: Bottlemart Express 3yo Fillies Maiden H’cap – 1300m
1st – Air Of Mystery 2nd – Isti Polly 3rd – La Bellashee 4th - Wishenda

ISTI POLLY (O. Turpin) jumped away awkwardly.

LA BELLASHEE (M. Rice) jumped in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

WISHENDA (M. Carson) overraced in the early and middle stages.

When being restrained near the 800m, WISHENDA improved up on to the heels of OBI PARK PRINCESSE (K. Pope) and shifted out.


Race 2: Bundy Dry & Lime 3yo C&G Maiden H’cap – 1300m
1st – King Xavier 2nd – Last Bet 3rd – Mr Mojito 4th – Out Of Ireland

MAGICIANS reared up and lashed out in the barriers, striking TOCAPITALIZE on the off hock. MAGICIANS and TOCAPITALIZE were declared late scratchings at 1.28 p.m. on veterinary advice. FUTURE DRIVEN, which also sustained an injury to the off fore canon in this incident, was declared a late scratching at 1.29 p.m. on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on MAGICIANS, TOCAPITALIZE and FUTURE DRIVEN were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 76 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 48 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets placed prior to 1.28 p.m, and 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets placed after 1.28 p.m. In accordance with LR147(2), stewards directed that no bettor shall receive in settlement of any successful bet an amount less than an amount which represents odds of $1.05. Mr P. Reid, foreman for trainer J. Hawkes, was advised that MAGICIANS would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

Trainer B. Gill was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier certificate for PHOENIX WAY, which proved difficult to load.

Approaching the 100m, XAAR ON ABSINTH (T. Huxham) shifted out when struck with the whip.

Inside the 100m, MR MOJITO (R. Plumb) shifted out, hampering OUT OF IRELAND (K. Pope).


Race 3: Bottlemart Queensland 3yo & Up Maiden Plate – 1000m
1st – Star Of Babylon 2nd – Al Seef 3rd – Loulisa 4th - Korolev

STAR OF BABYLON (M. Radecker) was slow to begin.

JUST LIKE SAM (N. Thomas), which was slow to begin, was tightened shortly after the start between HERE’S TO HOPING (O. Turpin) and AL SEEF (M. Rice), which shifted in.

Near the 900m, ON THE PIER (D. Peisley) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by HERE’S TO HOPING, which was taken in by AL SEEF.

Passing the 400m, ON THE PIER, which was held up for clear running, improved up on the heels of ANICARA (B. Payne) and when being steadied shifted out and made contact with ROCKIN’ THE CROWN (K. Wharton). ON THE PIER was held up for a short distance thereafter.

D. Peisley, rider of ON THE PIER, dropped his whip near the 300m.

ON THE PIER shifted out under pressure in the straight.

HEITMAN LANE (S. Scriven) raced extremely wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of ELLA DEE revealed the mare to have been galloped on on the near hind leg.


Race 4: Bundy Rum Class 6 H’cap – 1600m,
1st – Stravigent 2nd – The Real Rokocoko 3rd – British Storm 4th - Stipend

STIPEND (A. Best) was slow to begin.

STIPEND was momentarily held up for clear running approaching the finish line.





Race 5: Hahn Premium Light Class 3 Plate – 2200m
1st – Dicktator 2nd – Rezone 3rd – Hopeson 4th – Feather Bed

Racing out of the straight on the first occasion, REZONE (K. Pope) improved up on to the heels of GEE GEE (N. Thomas) and shifted out, taking BEARHART LAD (B. Payne) wider on the track.

DICKTATOR (P. Hammersley) raced wide in the early stages.

An inquiry into the running and handling of MAJOR STAR was adjourned after taking evidence from apprentice jockey T. Huxham and trainer S. Watters.


Race 6: XXXX Gold Class 1 H’cap – 1600m
1st – Silver Halo 2nd – Spirited Express 3rd – Areion 4th – Stormy Bend

On return to scale a protest was lodged by N. Day, rider of the 3rd placegetter, SPIRITED EXPRESS, against AREION (S. Scriven) being declared the 2nd placegetter, alleging interference over the final 100m. Stewards established that inside the 100m, AREION shifted out and made heavy contact with SPIRITED EXPRESS, and then continued to shift out, making further contact with that gelding on a number of occasions. Bearing in mind the interference suffered and short half head margin between 2nd and 3rd, stewards upheld the objection and amended the Judge’s placings to read: No. 3 – SILVER HALO – 1st; No. 6 – Spirited Express– 2ND; No. 1 – AREION – 3rd; No. 7 – STORMY BEND – 4th.

Rounding the 1200m turn, SILVA RAZZ (K. Pope) hung out across the heels of STORMY BEND (Z. Landry) and had to be checked.

Stewards questioned jockey K. Pope (SILVA RAZZ) and apprentice jockey Z. Landry (STORMY BEND) in relation to an incident which occurred leaving the 800m where it appeared K. Pope’s right arm came into contact with the torso of Z. Landry. After taking evidence from both riders, stewards accepted the explanations provided and took no further action.

S. Scriven, rider of AREION, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out near the 150m when not sufficiently clear of ASSERTIVE PRINCE (M. Cahill), resulting in that horse having to be steadied.

DUST IN YOUR EYES (D. Peisley) raced wide throughout.


Race 7: Bottlemart One Of The Locals Class 2 H’cap - 1400 .
1st – Fantino 2nd – So Spicy 3rd – Sweptronic 4th – She’s Rocking

SWEPTRONIC (A. Merritt) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 1200m, DESTINY LANE (A. Best) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of MINDSTORM (B. Stewart).

DESTINY LANE (A. Best) hung out rounding the 800m turn.

SHE’S ROCKING (N. Tomizawa) was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Race 8: Tooheys New Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Lindmark Looney 2nd – Desert Monarch 3rd – Mexican Gem 4th – Magic Top

PIPE DREAM was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to race.

Trainer N. Gaske was advised that a warning would be placed on THE DEVIL ITSELF, which was fractious in the enclosure, dislodging its jockey.

THE DEVIL HERSELF (N. Thomas) was slow to begin.

BELLE TRICKS (K. Pope) overraced in the middle stages.

CULTIVATION (R. McMahon) was momentarily held up for clear running on straightening.

LINDMARK LOONEY (O. Turpin) and MAGIC TOP (T. Huxham) shifted out under pressure in the straight.

MEXICAN GEM (M. Radecker) and LITTLE CLOUD (S. Drake) raced 3 wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of CULTIVATION revealed the mare to be making an upper respiratory noise. Trainer J. Hawkes will be advised that he would be required to trial the horse satisfactorily, and provide to the stewards the results of an ECG and a veterinary clearance prior to the mare next race start.
