Race 1: HOT 91 BRISBANE BLOODSTOCK BONUS 2YO H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Powerful Elements 2nd – Fantastic Movie 3rd – Mr Megs 4th – Royal Flag
ROYAL FLAG (G. Colless) was slow to begin.
JON ROBIE (M. Hughes) and VEESARME (J. Byrne) made contact on jumping away.
Near the 1200m MR MEGS (K. Cunningham) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of POWERFUL ELEMENTS (K. Pope).
JON ROBIE and FOREVERINIT (A. Taylor) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 400m MR MEGS shifted out to improve and in doing so tightened the running of BLUE GUM BAY (J. Bowditch) which had to be steadied.
Race 2: SKY CHANNEL 3YO QTIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1000m
1st – Patties Mate 2nd – Unintentional 3rd – Shifteman 4th – Sir Teles
SHIFTEMAN (J. Bowditch) and TOKYO TANGO (B. Pengelly) made contact on jumping away.
SAMSOON (J. Taylor) was tightened for room on jumping away between UNINTENTIONAL (G. Colless) and RAINING KINGS (M. Hughes) which shifted in.
Near the 800m RAINING KINGS shifted in and away from SHIFTEMAN, taking I LIKE IT (M. Palmer) in on to NADIRAH (K. Pope) which had to be steadied when taken on to the hind quarters of PROUD JESTER (A. Winfield).
Race 3: RAMADA PELICAN WATERS MAIDEN H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Recalled 2nd – Dark Rose 3rd – Made By Millie 4th - Girlzone
KAAPSTAD FAIR (S. Apthorpe) and GIRLZONE (M. Hackett) were slow to begin.
ARROW UP (M. Heagney) and CATLIST (B. Pengelly) jumped away awkwardly.
SPARK OF MAGIC (B. El-Issa) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in making contact with NO FREE LUNCH (D. Craven).
SPARK OF MAGIC commenced to overrace near the 1000m and near the 800m shifted out off the heels of DARK ROSE (M. Du Plessis) and in doing so tightened the running of OVASIA (K. Cunningham). SPARK OF MAGIC then continued to overrace for some distance thereafter. Trainer D. Schmidt was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly for its racing manners.
IN DALLAS (C. Isdale) and ARROW UP raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 600m MADE BY MILLIE (J. Byrne), which had commenced to overrace, improved up on to the heels of DARK ROSE and shifted out making heavy contact with OVASIA. MOONLIGHT RUN (J. Bowditch), which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence.
Approaching the 300m IN DALLAS, when tiring, shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of CATLIST.
Race 4: XXXX CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Kentish Rose 2nd – Cavallo 3rd – Dawns Queen 4th – Asituation
DANE TO TANGO (J. Byrne) and THE GUARDIAN (J. Powell) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Passing the 1100m ASITUATION (D. Craven) shifted out off the heels of KENTISH ROSE (B. El-Issa) and made contact with CALL A FRIEND (G. Colless).
Leaving the 800m FRISCO’S IN CHARGE (M. Du Plessis) hung out and had to be steadied off the heels of THE GUARDIAN.
Near the 400m BOOFHEAD (S. Apthorpe) improved up on to the heels of ASITUATION and had to be steadied. At the same stage CAME RIPPIN (R. Hinricks) shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail.
Race 5: COASTAL EFFECTS RENDERING CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Montesantos Saint 2nd – Saba San 3rd – Youdidntseeme 4th – Isti Polly
ALPINE REIGN (M. Hughes) and SABA SAN (M. Du Plessis) made contact on jumping away.
ALPINE REIGN pulled hard in the middle stages.
YOUDIDNTSEEME (B. El-Issa) was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Race 6: YALUMBA CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Thesis 2nd – Marhill 3rd – Sir Rapid 4th – Kalinga Era
AL SEEF (B. El-Issa), FOND BOND (J. Powell) and GEMSTONE PEAK (A. Taylor) were all tightened for room on jumping away between INDIAN SUMMER (M. Kai) and MARHILL (M. Hackett), which shifted in after making contact with SIR RAPID (M. Heagney).
Near the 900m FOND BOND had to be steadied when tightened for room between GEMSTONE PEAK and AL SEEF which shifted out slightly.
Near the 800m AL SEEF, which was racing greenly, shifted out resulting in SHESHEDA (J. Byrne) having to be steadied.
Race 7: TUSCANY SYNDICATE CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Scoot 2nd – Jacaranda Leader 3rd – See The Flames 4th – Two And A Kick
INDOMATO (M. Morris) was slow to begin.
LA DANSKE (M. Du Plessis) jumped away awkwardly.
FRIENDLY EMBRACE (M. Price) shifted out shortly after the start making contact with COPPER PENNY (K. Wharton), which shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of WELL OF SOULS (A. Taylor).
SEE THE FLAMES (N. Thomas), which was a little slow to begin, shifted in shortly after the start and had to be steadied off the heels of FAME AND FINESSE (B. El-Issa).
OUR VOLTAGE (M. Heagney) and DENIM AND DIAMONDS (K. Pope) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 600m INDOMATO commenced to hang out taking REGAL CHARMER (S. Apthorpe) outwards, resulting in COPPER PENNY having to be steadied to avoid the heels of REGAL CHARMER.
Shortly after straightening REGAL CHARMER was disappointed for a run between DENIM AND DIAMONDS and OUR VOLTAGE which was taken out by FRIENDLY EMBRACE.
Near the 300m SEE THE FLAMES attempted a run to the inside of SO STEP IN LINE (C. Spry) where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied. SEE THE FLAMES was then held up until after passing the 200m.
Race 8: REED PROPERTY GROUP H’CAP - 1200m
1st – General Patton 2nd – Court Adjourned 3rd – Picture Book 4th – Rule By Right
Stewards accepted the explanation of J. Powell in regard to his being dually engaged in this event.
The saddle on MI JUBILEE (L. Rolls) shifted shortly after the start, placing the rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
M. Morris, the rider of 3rd placegetter PICTURE BOOK, was fined $1,000 after pleading guilty to a charge under AR. 137(b) of failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. In assessing penalty, stewards were of the opinion that M. Morris’s actions had cost him 2nd place but took into account that this was the first occasion on which he had been issued with a charge under this Rule.
Race 9: COASTAL EFFECTS RENDERING CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Em’s Girl 2nd – Super Suspicious 3rd – Onasong 4th – Uther
Trainer D. Watling was fined $100 under LR. 70 for failing to declare J. Byrne as the rider of TENFUHRCENT by the prescribed time.
As M. McDonald had been stood down by his master for disciplinary reasons, S. Holcombe was substituted as the rider of LINDMARK LOONEY.
LINDMARK LOONEY, which was fractious in the barriers, was removed from the stalls, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
ONASONG (M. Morris) shifted out at the start and made contact with LUXURY GIFT (B. El-Issa).
IT AIN’T HALF HOT (K. Pope) raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained to take a rearward position.
ONITSEAR (M. Du Plessis) raced ungenerously in the early stages.
FOREVER AUTUMN (J. Powell) raced wide throughout the event.
WHERE’S MINE (N. Thomas) laid out making the 800m turn and was obliged to race wide thereafter.
EM’S GIRL (J. Bowditch) laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
A post-race veterinary examination of WEEK NIGHTS ON failed to reveal any abnormalities.
