As O. Turpin was ill, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: XXXX Rising Stars Of Sport Jane Larkin & Erin Thras QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap - 1000m
1st – Love Hit Me 2nd – Brookie Babe 3rd – Star Of Palazzo 4th – Magic Procession
MARY OF SCOTLAND was incorrectly presented to the enclosure wearing blinkers. After interviewing trainer S. Jones, stewards considered there were extenuating circumstances and no further action was taken.
GOLD SOVEREIGN (M. Radecker) began awkwardly and shifted out at the start.
WHYDIDYOULEAVEME (S. Galloway) and MARY OF SCOTLAND (A. Pattillo) came together on jumping away.
ORCHESTRAL STORM (S. Holcombe) and SHOVNCO (N. Day) also bumped at the start.
WHYDIDYOULEAVEME had a tendency to race greenly in the early stages.
Approaching the 700m, SUPER MOON (T. Pannell) improved up on to the heels of MAGIC PROCESSION (M. Traecey) and shifted out, inconveniencing MARY OF SCOTLAND (A. Pattillo).
STAR OF PALAZZO (B. Pengelly) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: XXXX Rising Star of Sport Samantha Hamill 3yo & Up Maiden H’cap – 1600m
1st – Malkovich 2nd – Patti 3rd – A Tad Smugg 4th – Slip Up
STARSKY (N. Day) began awkwardly.
L. Morrison, rider of MALKOVICH, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 500m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PATTI (P. Holmes), resulting in PATTI being checked. L. Morrison was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 10 March and to expire at midnight, 23 March. As a consequence of this incident, MARQUIS DE ROY (T. Axon), which was following, had to be steadied and in turn shifted out, inconveniencing JUMEIRAH HEIGHTS (S. Galloway) and REGAL XAAR (P. Wolfgram).
Near the 200m, VELARCHI (K. Cunningham) had to be steadied off the heels of PATTI, which shifted out to improve.
HONOUR REIGN (D. Griffin) hung in badly over the final 200m, resulting in D. Griffin being unable to fully test his mount. A warning was issued regarding the racing manners of HONOUR REIGN.
MUCHO GRACIAS (J. Taylor) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: XXXX Rising Star of Sport Jake Crawford Maiden Div 1 Plate - 1200m
1st – Over The Heather 2nd – Wishenda 3rd – Cotton Candy 4th - Unintentional
DIRTY WEEKEND (B. Pengelly) and UNINTENTIONAL (J. Byrne) began awkwardly.
Near the 1000m, when the pace of the race steadied, OVER THE HEATHER (K. Pope) overraced on the heels of MOSCHATA (T. Bannon) and as a consequence COTTON CANDY (G. Baker) and DIRTY WEEKEND (B. Pengelly) were both inconvenienced. T. Bannon, rider of MOSCHATA, was advised of her obligations when steadying the pace of a race.
Near the 600m, UNDIEES (M. Radecker) began to overrace for some distance and as a consequence LICENTIOUS GIRL (D. Griffin), which was trailing, shifted out, taking CREATED (M. Hughes) wider on the track.
Near the 450m, COTTON CANDY (G. Baker) shifted out to improve and in doing so made heavy contact with ATOMIC DRAGON (A. Erhart).
K. Pope, rider of OVER THE HEATHER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 350m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of COTTON CANDY (G. Baker), which had to be checked and shift wider, making contact with ATOMIC DRAGON (A. Erhart). K. Pope was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 March and to expire at midnight, 23 March 2008.
CHARGED (S. Galloway) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of OVER THE HEATHER revealed the horse had been galloped on on the near hind leg.
Race 4: XXXX Rising Star of Sport Shayleigh Gould Maiden Div 2 Plate – 1200m
1st – Galloping Rhymes 2nd – Don’t Tell Angie 3rd – Our Secretsquirrel 4th - Lilchan
STALWART JOY reared as the start was effected, resulting in M. Morris being dislodged from that mare. Connections were advised that a barrier test certificate would be required for STALWART JOY prior to its next race start.
Stewards delayed the all clear on this race to establish if STALWART JOY had been denied a fair start, however after viewing the official film and acting on their own observations, stewards were satisfied that STALWART JOY reared of its own accord as the start was effected and therefore was declared a runner.
MUSICAL BOX (S. Bayliss) and GRAND JACK (K. Pope) came together and bumped on jumping away.
Near the 200m, DON’T TELL ANGIE (P. Wolfgram) and LILCHAN (M. Hughes) came together and bumped.
BELLE TINKA (L. Cheshire) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 5: XXXX Rising Star of Sport Jacqui Day Class 1 H’cap - 1000m
1st – Slugsbrothernugget 2nd –Wusta 3rd – Beguiling Star 4th – She Commands
DE SHABILLE was declared a late scratching at 9.28 on veterinary advice.
CASA CARDOSO was declared a late scratching at 2.02 pm on veterinary advice after the horse kicked out in the barriers. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on CASA CARDOSO were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets. Trainer T. Miller was advised that a warning was being placed on the gelding.
CASINO CREEPERS (S. Holcombe) and HAPPY GIGGLESON (S. Mossman) began awkwardly.
Approaching the 700m, HAPPY GIGGLESON shifted in and made contact with the running rail of its own accord. HAPPY GIGGLESON again shifted in and made contact with the running rail leaving the 600m.
Near the 600m, ORMONDE (L. Cheshire) shifted in, making contact with JEMAJAY BELLE (K. Pope), which had to be steadied.
CANYOUHEARTHEBELL (T. Pannell) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Following the event, trainer R. McCall advised stewards that CASINO CREEPERS got its tongue over the bit during the race.
TAKE A STAND, which performed below expectations, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer S. Jones was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for TAKE A STAND prior to its next race start.
Jockey P. Holmes was fined $100 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
Race 6: XXXX Rising Star of Sport Jesse Carver Class 4 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Flood Hero 2nd – Bullish Star 3rd – Winmara 4th – Specard
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the late notification of rider for SANTI to enable trainer S. Dwyer to present further evidence.
SANTI (A. Pattillo) and IN NO DANGER (D. Griffin) came together and bumped on jumping away.
Leaving the 200m, XAAR ON ABSINTH (J. Byrne) was momentarily tightened for room when racing to the inside of SPECARD (S. Holcombe), which shifted in under pressure.
When questioned regarding the tactics to lead on FLOOD HERO in today’s race as compared to previous tactics adopted on the horse, P. Hammersley advised that his instructions from the trainer were to race the horse in a forward position, and should there be an opportunity to lead that he should take that option. Trainer B. Wakefield confirmed the instructions given to the jockey and advised that the instructions were based on his assessment of a lack of pace in the race. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 7: XXXX Rising Star of Sport Troy Guenther Class 1 H’cap - 1400m
1st – Kings Artist 2nd – Powerful Elements 3rd – Pavlichenko 4th – Snow Dane
PAVLICHENKO (T. Pannell) blundered on jumping away.
SNOW DANE (P. Hammersley) and CHATOSTAR (K. Cunningham) came together and bumped on jumping away.
Shortly after the start, MORETON MAGIC (S. Holcombe) and PAVLICHENKO (T. Pannell) were tightened for room between DANCE MACHINE (M. Speers) and RAW NERVE (P. Wolfgram), which shifted in.
A short distance later, PAVLICHENKO lost its position when racing to the outside of DANCE MACHINE (M. Speers) and inside of MORETON MAGIC (S. Holcombe) and RAW NERVE (P. Wolfgram). P. Wolfgram, rider of RAW NERVE, was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was careless at that stage of the race by allowing his mount to shift in.
MORETON MAGIC raced wide for the majority of the event.
Following the race, the club’s veterinary surgeon reported that POWERFUL ELEMENTS had been galloped on on the near hind leg, and that MORTON MAGIC had been galloped on on the near hind leg, and had lost its near hind shoe.
Race 8: XXXX Rising Star of Sport Stacey Higgins Class 6 Plate –
1400m
1st – Masai Pride 2nd – Rebounded 3rd – Fantastic Movie 4th – Lord Rupert
Trainer B. Smith was fined $100 for presenting LORD RUPERT and DARKSIDE LASS with incorrect gear. LR140A.
LORD RUPERT (M. Morris) was slow to begin.
REBOUNDED (M. Radecker) was inclined to shift out when struck with the whip over the final 200m.
Race 9: XXXX Rising Star of Sport Josh Lumley Class 3 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Western Pacific 2nd – Chaufuhr 3rd – Timido 4th – Wallan Road
After questioning apprentice M. Radecker and trainer G. Moon regarding M. Radecker being dually engaged for BARRUM and LUNACAMPO, stewards considered there were mitigating circumstances and took no further action in the matter.
Apprentice G. Butler was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on RISING STORM. AR92(12).
The start of this race was initially delayed as a result of a broken stirrup leather on RISING STORM, which resulted in the horse having to be resaddled.
The start was further delayed after N. Thomas was dislodged from LUNACAMPO behind the barriers. As N. Thomas sustained injuries which resulted in him being unable to fulfil his engagement, stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse at 4.32 pm. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on LUNACAMPO were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets. N. Thomas was advised that he must produce a medical clearance prior to him resuming race riding.
TIMIDO (K. Pope) was slow to begin and shifted out abruptly, resulting in TIMIDO becoming unbalanced.
KALINGA KATE (S. Holcombe) was tightened for room on jumping away between WELSH DESCENT (S. Galloway) and RISING STORM (G. Butler), which shifted in.
Approaching the 400m, TIMIDO (K. Pope) shifted out to improve and in doing so brushed WELSH DESCENT (S. Galloway).
RISING STORM raced wide for the majority of the event.
