Race 1: Seapointe Homes QTIS 2yo Maiden H'cap – 1000m
1st – Funtantes 2nd – Daneomite 3rd – Freton 4th - Ponchito
ALI JAI (A. Pattillo) and FRETON (O. Turpin), which were slow to begin, made heavy contact on jumping away.
HOLY MUFFY (C. Reith) jumped outwards at the start, hampering SPANISH SUN (J. Taylor).
Approaching the 800m, ALI JAI had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between ANDIAMO SERA (K. Pope), which shifted out, and PONCHITO (D. Craven), which was taken in by FRETON (O. Turpin).
Leaving the 700m, HOLY MUFFY (C. Reith), which was racing greenly, had to be steadied when tightened for room between ALI JAI and SPANISH SUN, which shifted in when also racing greenly.
Passing the 500m, ANDIAMO SERA (K. Pope) was obliged to race in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of FRETON.
DANEOMITE (J. Piper) shifted in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 2: Mansell Bulk Haulage QTIS 3yo & Up Maiden H'cap - 1600m
1st – Williamstown 2nd – Left Hook 3rd – Cha Cha Man 4th – Legal Perfume
LEFT HOOK (J. Piper) and ABINDAH (B. Pengelly) were both slow to begin.
NEDIYM’S FLIER (D. Craven) had to be steadied at the start when tightened for room between MANZIEDEAR (M. Heagney) and MERCENT (K. Pope), which was taken in by GREY MARK (O. Turpin).
LEFT HOOK raced wide in the early and middle stages.
E. Wilkinson, rider of ON THE WAY UP, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 300m when insufficiently clear of MANZIEDEAR (M. Hellyer), which resulted in MANZIEDEAR having to be steadied.
Near the 50m, ON THE WAY UP (E. Wilkinson) shifted out under pressure, hampering ABINDAH (B. Pengelly).
MERCENT (K. Pope), LEGAL PERFUME (M. Paget) and TOM’S SECRET (W. Clasohm) raced wide for the majority of the event.
LEFT HOOK lost its off fore plate in running.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ABINDAH, B. Pengelly stated that after being tardily away, the gelding enjoyed a good run in transit and gave him the indication passing the 600m that he would feature in the finish, however when placed under pressure near the 400m, ABINDAH failed to respond to his riding and compounded over the concluding stages. Trainer L. Birchley advised stewards that ABINDAH had previously had an operation to correct a wind problem. A post-race veterinary examination of ABINDAH failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards ordered that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced to stewards prior to the gelding’s next race start.
Race 3: Megalec Pty Ltd Maiden Plate - 1200m
1st – World By Night 2nd – Circumnavigate 3rd – Taimazon 4th – All Show
CIRCUMNAVIGATE (C. McIver) and GOLDEN BALLS (J. Taylor) were tightened for room on jumping away between LION BLANC (E. Wilkinson) and MANIHI FREEZE (R. Hancock), both of which shifted ground.
TAIMAZON (R. Wiggins) and PORTSUN (D. Griffin) were tightened for room at the start between JUTLAND PARADE (N. Thomas) and ALL SHOW (M. Speers), which shifted out.
GREEDY GECKO (J. Holder) was slow to begin.
Passing the 800m, VERRE ELITE (Mathew Palmer) raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of GUNS (J. Piper), which was taken in by CIRCUMNAVIGATE (C. McIver).
Near the 850m, PAY US (C. Reith) became unbalanced and lost considerable ground, resulting in GOLDEN BALL and GREEDY GECKO (J. Holder), which were following, having to be checked and shift wider on the track. When questioned, C. Reith could offer no explanation other than to suggest that the gelding had overreached and become unbalanced, losing considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination of PAY US revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the near fore tendon. The stable representative for T. Green was advised to advise stewards if any condition came to light in the following days which might explain the occurrence.
MANIHI FREEZE (R. Hancock) and JUTLAND PARADE raced wide for the majority of the event.
GREEDY GECKO sprung is off fore plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination of GREEDY GECKO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 4: Sunshine Coast Racing Lodge Class 1 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Epicred 2nd –Steady Poplar 3rd – Hussminda 4th – Answer To A Prayer
SCHOOL PRINCESS (K. Pope) was slow to begin.
INDIAN SUMMER (K. Wharton) raced wide in the early stages.
A post-race veterinary examination of SCHOOL PRINCESS (K. Pope), which hung out throughout the event, revealed the mare to have sustained a laceration to the off hind canon.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of EPICRED, stable representative for R. Coveney stated that at the gelding’s previous start it was first up for approximately a month and on that occasion the gelding had resented the lugging bit, and was of the opinion that the removal of that gear had assisted in its performance today.
Race 5: Kawana Bowls N’ Recreation Class 1 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Monashee Diva 2nd – Nutuzzi 3rd – Dashing Impulse 4th – Wonkavator
Trainer C. Richardson was reprimanded for presenting KALINGA SECRET to the enclosure in incorrect gear.
MAROON BELLS (J. Holder) and KALINGA SECRET (O. Turpin) were slow to begin.
Near the 800m, NUTUZZI (M. Hellyer) shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of MONASHEE DIVA (A. Pattillo).
KALINGA SECRET (O. Turpin) had a tendency to lay out near the 600m, taking MAROON BELLS (J. Holder) wider on the track.
NUTUZZI was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of MONASHEE DIVA, trainer D. Bell stated that at its previous start the filly had to work hard to obtain the lead. He further added that the firmer surface today, along with the reduction in race distance, had better suited MONASHEE DIVA today.
A post-race veterinary examination of MAROON BELLS revealed the filly to be lame in the near hind leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be presented for MAROON BELLS prior to its next race start.
Race 6: MCH Corporation Class 6 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Pietro Vannucci 2nd – Riseupsinging 3rd – He’s Some Eagle 4th – Costa Mucho
COLE TRICKLE (M. Speers) commenced to race fiercely leaving the 1100m and did so until near the 500m.
Near the 800m, COSTA MUCHO (S. Galloway) shifted out to improve, taking PRINCE LEO (B. Pengelly) wider on the track.
Passing the 500m, FRISCO’S IN CHARGE (O. Turpin) shifted out, hampering PRINCE LEO.
Race 7: Bi-Rite Electrical Caloundra Class 3 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Encosta Tszyu 2nd – Born To Hunt 3rd – Cash In A Hurry 4th –Craiglea Symphony
D. Craven was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his engagement on LUNACAMPO. N. Thomas was substituted as the rider of LUNACAMPO.
JOBURG ANGEL (O. Turpin) jumped away awkwardly.
RUN AND GUN (D. Griffin) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m, JOBURG ANGEL commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of RUN AND GUN (D. Griffin).
Near the 50m, CRAIGLEA SYMPHONY (M. Speers) shifted in under pressure, hampering JOBURG ANGEL.
Race 8: Bundilla Dry Cleaners Class 2 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Linear 2nd – Onasong 3rd – Dreaming Cash 4th – Fielding
Trainer D. Kelly was reprimanded for failing to produce the Document of Description for DREAMING CASH.
DREAMING CASH (A. Pattillo) jumped away awkwardly.
ONASONG (C. Reith) jumped outwards at the start, taking EL CORONA (C. McIver) out on to LINEAR (J. Bowditch).
Near the 1100m, EL CORONA (C. McIver) was momentarily tightened for room between ONASONG and LINEAR, which was taken in by MAHARISHI (J. Holder). J. Holder, rider of MAHARISI, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Passing the 1000m, EL CORONA, which had then commenced to overrace, had to be steadied when tightened for room by LINEAR. J. Bowditch, rider of LINEAR, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 700m, BRACKIN ROAD (N. Thomas) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of BEFORE HOLLYWOOD and shifted out, resulting in EL CORONA (C. McIver) having to be steadied when tightened on to INDIANA SECRET (J. Taylor). DREAMING CASH, which was following, also had to be steadied.
FIELDING (A. Merritt) and DREAMING CASH brushed on 2 occasions over the concluding stages.
MAURIES PICK (J. Piper) and INDIANA SECRET raced wide for the majority of the event.
