From SCTC, 23.8.09 – Race 4
Stewards interviewed apprentice M. Hughes, rider of VELVET KNIGHT, regarding his use of the whip in this event. After considering all relevant matters and viewing the stewards patrol film, M. Hughes was cautioned for his use of the whip on a horse out of contention.
Race 1: Minc Services QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate - 1200m
1st – Redgate 2nd – Get Uppity 3rd – Toptwo 4th – Grand Homme
SWISS STRIKE (M. Cahill) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with BURNS BRIGHT (A. Erhart).
SHOW ME WHY (M. Speers) blundered at the start.
CRAIGLEA CYCLONE (L. Appo) began awkwardly.
ROYAL ARCH (S. Holcombe) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with TOPTWO (O. Turpin).
SWISS STRIKE was tightened for room shortly after the start between BURNS BRIGHT, which shifted out, and SHOW ME WHY, which shifted in.
SHOW ME WHY had to be steadied leaving the 400m to avoid the heels of TOPTWO, which became unbalanced and shifted out.
COCONUT LASS (K. Pope), SHOW ME WHY and GRAND HOMME (D. Browne) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Tacoma Plumbing And Drainage Maiden Plate - 1400m
1st – Arizona Sunset 2nd – Mulsanne 3rd – Knightrider 4th – Prince Octane
Trainer M. Reynolds stable representative was advised that a fine of $100 would be imposed in that he failed to declare a rider for MOVIN MOLLY by the prescribed time.
ANGEL GAL (A. Spinks) blundered at the start.
Shortly after the start, TINBEERWAH (R. Hinricks) was tightened for room between MOVIN MOLLY (K. Pope) and ARIZONA SUNSET (M. Radecker), which was taken in by KNIGHTRIDER (B. Pengelly), which hung inwards.
PRINCE OCTANE (M. Hellyer) overraced in early stages.
PRINCE OCTANE shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m, making contact with ANGEL GAL.
TINBEERWAH raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: Shade & Security Maiden H'cap - 1000m
1st – Tedika 2nd –Azzurra Bay 3rd – Whataman 4th – Nova Ice
Trainer T. Thomas was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for BAG THE PROFIT by the prescribed time.
BAG THE PROFIT (M. Hellyer) and MAGGIE JAIN (S. Galloway) were both tightened for room at the start between AZZURRA BAY (C. Reith), which began awkwardly and shifted out, and WHY WARRIOR (K. Pope), which shifted in.
WHATAMAN (M. Cahill) began awkwardly.
PROZELLAN (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.
Leaving the 800m, WHY WARRIOR had to be steadied when crowded for room by MAIZWAY (M. Hughes), which shifted in. M. Hughes, rider of MAIZWAY, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 750m, NATURAL MISS (K. Sawyers) hung in and had to be steadied off the heels of TEDIKA (J. Kropp) and when being steadied shifted out, brushing VOLANT CHEVAL (N. Thomas).
Passing the 600m, MAGGIE JAIN commenced to overrace and improved up on to the heels of TEDIKA and had to be restrained.
WHY WARRIOR, FRENCH CREDIT (A. Erhart), NATURAL MISS and VOLANT CHEVAL raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 4: Medicine On Second Open H'cap - 1000m
1st – Swiss Ace/That’s Better 3rd – Pelltro 4th - Lackadosh
Prior to the event, PELLTRO was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon in relation to its start at Doomben on 29th August 2009 and was cleared to start.
The start was delayed when SWISS ACE proved difficult to load.
THAT’S BETTER (S. Katsidis) jumped in the air at the start.
SWISS ACE (K. Pope) shifted outwards at the start, making contact with THAT’S BETTER.
Correct weight was delayed when the connections of third placegetter PELLTRO sought permission to view the photo-finish. After viewing the photo-finish, connections were satisfied with the Judge’s placings.
Correct weight was further delayed when S. Katsidis, rider of equal 1st placegetter, THAT’S BETTER, sought permission to view the stewards patrol film in the straight to ascertain if he had grounds for protest against equal 1st placegetter, SWISS ACE. After viewing the footage, S. Katsidis did not wish to proceed further and correct weight was subsequently semaphored on the Judge’s placings.
Race 5: JLP Fabrication Class 1 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Swell 2nd – Bionic Rock 3rd – Baldy Mount 4th – Craiglea Scorcher
BALDY MOUNT (S. Galloway) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with CRAIGLEA SCORCHER (L. Appo), which in turn shifted out, making contact with TIERMES (N. Thomas)
UPUPAWAY (M. Hellyer) began awkwardly.
BRADASH (B. Payne) had difficulty obtaining clear running from leaving the 400m until approaching the 200m.
CIRCUMNAVIGATE (K. Pope) and BIONIC ROCK (M. Wood) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 6: Bank Of Queensland Caloundra Class 5 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Miller’s Wheel 2nd – Stature 3rd – Life’s Short 4th – Slugsbrothernugget
Due to a racebook error, J. Taylor was notified as the rider of STATURE when M. Cahill was to be the rider of that gelding.
Trainer R. Mackay was fined $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for SOCIAL GATHERING.
STATURE (M. Cahill) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with BEST PUPIL (T. Treichel).
Shortly after the start, LIFE’S SHORT (K. Pope) was tightened for room at the start between SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET (S. Katsidis) and BEST PUPIL (T. Treichel), both of which shifted ground.
MILLERS WHEEL (D. Browne) was slow to begin.
LIFE’S SHORT overraced in the middle stages and shifted wider on the track.
STATURE raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Access Insulation Class 1 H'cap - 1800m
1st – Raksasa 2nd – Cape Silver 3rd – Morongla 4th – Blue Ego
Leaving the 1600m, CAPE SILVER (M. Speers) commenced to lay out, bumping the hind quarters of RAKSASA (M. Cahill), becoming unbalanced and shifting in, making contact with the running rail.
BLUE EGO (N. Thomas) shifted in, making contact with the running rail near the 450m.
Race 8: Coastal Effect Rendering Class 3 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Oh So Rosy 2nd – Mulga Bob 3rd – Bearhart Gold 4th – Golden Balls
DAMASHQUI (T. Treichel), ALTISSIMO (M. Hellyer) and GOLDEN BALLS (D. Browne) were slow to begin.
TOP RESOURCE (S. Galloway) began awkwardly.
Approaching the 1200m when the pace of the race slackened, DAMASHQUI and PATMOSS (K. Pope) commenced to overrace and as a result shifted out and were forced to raced 3 wide from that point. DAMASHQUI then continued to overrace for some distance.
MULGA BOB (N. Thomas) overraced for a short distance leaving the 800m.
Near the 450m, GOLDEN BALLS had to be steadied when crowded for room between DAMASHQUI and OH SO ROSY, which shifted out. As a consequence, GOLDEN BALLS was held up for a short distance.
Both ALTISSIMO and STARALIE had difficulty obtaining clear running from leaving the 400m until approaching the 200m. At that point, STARALIE shifted out in an attempt to take a narrow run between FEMME LIEN (O. Turpin) and OH SO ROSY (S. Katsidis) and in doing so tightened ALTISSIMO (M. Hellyer) out on to GOLDEN BALLS. A. Spinks, rider of STARALIE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. For some distance after this incident, ALTISSIMO was held up for clear running until approaching the winning post, and STARALIE was held up for the remainder of the event and went to the finish line without being fully tested.
