Supplementary Report

Trainer J. McLachlan was fined the sum of $200 under LR43 in that he allowed trackwork rider C. Hennessey to ride trackwork at the SCTC on 24 August 2009 when not the holder of the appropriate licence.

Race 1: Jana Piper Apprentice Of The Year Maiden H'cap - 1600m
1st – Sisula 2nd – Mulsanne 3rd – Dane Raider 4th -Sobo

Trainer N. Flouskos approached stewards in relation to the gear to be worn by STALWART GARZA. He stated he had removed blinkers and tongue-tie with RISA during the week. In the circumstances, stewards permitted STALWART GARZA to race without this gear, however will inquire further regarding the circumstances surrounding this matter.

STALWART GARZA (M. Hughes) began awkwardly.

TINKLER’S LANE (S. Kennedy), ANGEL GAL (B. El-Issa) and BEARHUG (I. Coombes) were all slow to begin.

Near the 1200m, MULSANNE (J. Bowditch) had to be momentarily steadied when tightened for room between BARLAYS (O. Turpin) and LUNAR BELLE (M. Hellyer), which shifted in.

MULSANNE raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Leaving the 800m, BARLAYS had to be steadied when tightened for room between SISULA (D. Browne) and MULSANNE, which shifted in. SISULA (D. Browne) had to be steadied as a consequence. J. Bowditch, rider of MULSANNE, was advised to exercise more care.

Near the 700m, SISULA improved on to the heels of TINKLER’S LANE and had to be steadied.

DANE RAIDER (K. Sawyers) commenced to hang in in the home straight, proving difficult to ride out, and near the 100m shifted in, brushing SOBO (M. Cahill).

SOBO laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

R. Bradshaw, trainer of BEARHUG, was fined the sum of $50.00 under the provisions of AR 59A for failing to present a Document of Description for that horse upon request.



Race 2: Rembrandts Racing Syndicate Owner Of The Year Maiden H'cap - 1200m
1st – Boulders 2nd – Red Raiders 3rd – Taormina 4th – Velvet Knight

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer T. Sears for the late declaration of rider for RED RAIDERS.

The start was delayed when VERRE ELITE proved difficult to load. Trainer B. Gill was advised that he must provide a further barrier certificate for the mare prior to its next race start.

PROZELLAN (J. Taylor) stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground.

HANDSOME PLAYBOY (M. Cahill) was tightened for room shortly after the start between ROSY ROAD HOME (M. Hellyer), which shifted in slightly, and CANGRANDE (K. Sawyers), which shifted out making heavy contact with HANDSOME PLAYBOY. As a consequence of this incident, CANGRANDE then shifted in, making contact with NO CONSENSUS (J. Bowditch).

HANDSOME PLABOY (M. Cahill) and CANGRANDE (K. Sawyers) overraced in the early stages of the event.

TAORMINA (B. Pengelly) overraced and threw its head in the air for a short distance after the start.

DEBIRD (K. Forrester), VERRE ELITE (D. Gill) and RED RAIDERS (D. Browne) raced wide for the majority of the event.

LORD DOWNER (C. Reith) lost its near fore plate during the race.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HANDSOME PLAYBOY, M. Cahill stated after being hampered at the start the horse travelled fairly in the early and middle stages, however failed to let down when placed under pressure in the home straight and in his opinion was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Race 3: Jason & Bruce McLachlan Trainer Of The Year QTIS 3yo Class 1 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Andy Said 2nd – Rocky Habit 3rd – Eyelady 4th – Dusty’s Felt

TOP MESSIAH (O. Turpin), which began awkwardly, was tightened for room shortly after the start between ANDY SAID (G. Geran), which shifted out, and CRAIGLEA APOLLO (A. Kitson), which shifted in.

Approaching the 700m, DANEODIN (S. Kennedy) shifted in, making contact with CRAIGLEA APOLLO.

Nearing the 600m, CRAIGLEA APOLLO shifted out, forcing DANEODIN wider on the track.

Near the 450m, ANDY SAID, shifted out, making contact with CRAIGLEA APOLLO, which in turn shifted out, causing DANEODIN to shift wider on the track.

M. Dorrington, rider of DUSTY’S FELT, was found guilty of a charge under AR137A(1)(5), in that he did use his whip in a forehand manner in consecutive strides on more than 3 occasions behind the saddle inside the 200m than what is permissible under the rules. M. Dorrington was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 4 meetings, to commence at midnight, 6 September 2009 and to expire at midnight, 13 September 2009. Stewards also ordered that he forfeit his riding fee, plus his prizemoney percentage.


Race 4: Stewart Mackinnon Leading Strike Rate Trainer Of The Year 4yo & UP Class 1 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Caucus 2nd – Ethbaal 3rd – Miss Joburg 4th – Sailon Silvergirl

SHEEMON was declared a late scratching at 9.42 am due to personal reasons as advised by trainer Mr R. Drysdale. Stewards accepted the explanation.

At the start, the inside barrier gate of CRAIGLEA SUPREME sprung back, causing that horse to shift out, making contact with AZZMY WITNESS. Subsequently after viewing the start of this race, stewards noted that the outside barrier gate of stall 7 and the inside barrier gate of stall 8 both failed to catch properly. This was reported to the starter, Mr R. Huxham, to take appropriate action to rectify he problem.

CAUCUS (C. Reith) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with ETHBAAL (B. Pengelly), which in turn shifted out, brushing WARBRIK (B. Thomson).

HEZA OUTLAW (O. Turpin) blundered on jumping away.

AZZMY WITNESS (M. Heagney) attempted to buck shortly after the start, resulting in that runner being eased out of the event and taking no effective part in the race. Trainer P. Blackwell was advised that AZZMY WITNESS must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

HEZA OUTLAW (O. Turpin) had to be steadied off the heels of ALEXANDRE (M. Wood) near the 600m.

Leaving the 200m, HEZA OUTLAW (O. Turpin) had to be steadied and alter course to void the heels of the tiring CRAIGLEA SUPREME (A. Kitson).

CAUCUS (C. Reith), SAILON SILVERGIRL (R. Hinricks) and TRAIL OF SECRETS (J. Bowditch) all raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 5: Jana Piper Jockey Of The Year Class 3 H'cap - 1800m
1st – My Counsel 2nd – Jess Sar Belle 3rd – Golden Balls 4th – Pea Eye Cee

REAL WORLD (M. Wood) had to be steadied off the heels of GOLDEN BALLS (D. Browne) near the 1600m and again near the 1500m.

Leaving the 800m, KENNY’S MAGIC (K. Forrester) shifted wider on the track to improve.

TEN CORONAS (M. Radecker) and WORLD BY NIGHT (C. Reith) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of MY COUNSEL, as compared to its previous start when 9th of 13, trainer B. Smith stated that, in his opinion, the horse may have got its tongue over the bit at its last start, and in light of that, he had experimented with a tongue-tie being added to the horse’s gear for the first time, and had also removed the pacifiers for today’s event. He added that these changes, together with the fact that MY COUNSEL had pleased him in trackwork leading up to today’s event, may have contributed to the improved performance of MY COUNSEL. Stewards noted the explanation.

A post-race veterinary examination of SWEET SCIENCE (B. Pengelly), which compounded in the home straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 6: Horse Of The Year H'cap - 1300m
1st – Red Ferments 2nd – Pass The Bubbly 3rd – Semi Wells 4th – Cape Breton

Approaching the finish line, CAPE BRETON (M. Hellyer), in attempting to take a narrow run between PASS THE BUBBLY (J. Bowditch) to his inside and CASH IN A HURRY (C. Reith) to his outside shifted out, making contact with CASH IN A HURRY.


Race 7: Caloundra RSL Class 1 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Mr Solitary 2nd – Loves A Challenge 3rd – Queen Of Bling 4th – Status King

GOLDEN GLEAMS (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.

Near the 550m, WILLIAMSTOWN (I. Coombes) improved onto the heels of VISTULA BELLE (B. El-Issa) and had to be steadied.

LOVE A CHALLENGE (J. Bowditch) had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

QUITE STYLISH (D. Gill), SYLECT (M. Dorrington), PE TE CRUISER (K. Sawyers) and CRAIGLEA RUBY (A. Kitson) all raced wide throughout.

Race 8: Tom & Carol Blacklaw Class 2 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Joint Chiefs 2nd – Straight Edge 3rd – Revered Ruler 4th – Coen

O. Turpin was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his engagement on TOKYO TANGO and was subsequently replaced by M. Dorrington.

VERRIDON was declared a late scratching at 5.02 pm on veterinary advice after the gelding reared in the barriers, striking its head. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on VERRIDON were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer E. Ropiha was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for VERRIDON prior to its next race start.

MY WHIPPY (C. Reith) and DR CHICAGO (B. Thomson) were tightened for room at the start between PUNTER’S CORNER (D. Griffin) and FAMOUS CRY (J. Bowditch), which jumped outwards.

CANADIAN CHIEF (M. Heagney) began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with TOKYO TANGO (M. Dorrington).

JOINT CHIEFS (M. Cahill) began awkwardly.

STRAIGHT EDGE (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

STRAIGHT EDGE was held up for clear running from leaving the 400m until approaching the 200m.

PUNTERS CORNER (D. Griffin) had to be steadied off the heels of MY WHIPPY near the 300m and shifted in to obtain clear running.

DR CHICAGO, RED SHADOW (C. Priest) and CANADIAN CHIEF (M. Heagney) all raced wide throughout.
