Race 1: Hynes Lawyers 4yo & Up Maiden H'cap - 1200m
1st – Shebearni 2nd – Bella Heritage 3rd – Miss Madi 4th -
The start of this race was delayed due to SHEBEARNI (K. Pope) proving difficult to load.
FRISCO’S DIAMOND (K. James), which began awkwardly, was further tightened for room between CHENNAI (B. Stewart) and MISS MADI (R. Wiggins), which shifted in.
Shortly after the start, FIREWALKER (A. Spinks) was tightened for room when racing between CHENNAI (B. Stewart) and BEAR’SAGUN (M. Hellyer), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 800m, BEAR’SAGUN shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
Passing the 700m, CARRY ON DANCER (K. Sawyers) improved up on to the heels of SHREWED HOSTESS (D. Craven) and shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of that horse, forcing BOOGEEMAC (C. Reith) wider on the track.
CARRY ON DANCER again had to be steadied off the heels of SHREWD HOSTESS leaving the 600m.
NESSUN DORMA (S. Kennedy) made the turn at the 800m awkwardly and shifted out.
A. Pattillo, rider of BELLA HERITAGE, reported his mount was accidentally struck by the whip of K. Pope, rider of SHEBEARNI, approximately 50 metres from the finish.
BOOGEEMAC raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards questioned trainer P. Duff and jockey K. Pope regarding the tactics adopted on SHEBEARNI today where the horse led as compared with the previous tactics adopted on SHEBEARNI this campaign. Mr Duff explained he gave no specific instructions to K. Pope other than to allow the horse to settle in a position where it was comfortable. K. Pope confirmed the instructions and explained that due to the lack of pace in the early stages he progressed forward, when enabled him to obtain a position in the lead. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 2: ANZ Bank QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap - 1200m
1st – Tierqualo 2nd – Clancy’s Mountain 3rd – Toptwo 4th – Master Winner
The start of this race was delayed due to TIERQUALO proving difficult to load. Trainer K. Doherty was advised that a warning was being placed on TIERQUALO regarding its barrier manners.
GET UPPITY (B. Stewart) was slow to begin.
BILLIE BLUE GUM (J. Byrne) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with NEVERSAIDIT’SEASY (S. Katsidis).
PONZI SCHEME (G. Geran) also began awkwardly.
Near the 800m, NEVERSAIDIT’SEASY shifted in, making contact with the running rail.
Passing the 600m, PONZI SCHEME (G. Geran) improved up on to the heels of TOPTWO
(M. Hellyer) and had to be steadied and shift wider on the track.
Leaving the 300m, MASTER WINNER (L. Rolls) was inconvenienced when momentarily crowded for room by BILLIE BLUE GUM (J. Byrne), which was inclined to lay in pressure in the straight and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
BILLIE BLUE GUM (J. Byrne) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
PURE DIVA (K. Pope) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of PONZI SCHEME had sustained a laceration to its near-side shoulder. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for PONZI SCHEME prior to its next race start.
Race 3: Argyle On The Park Maroochydore Maiden H'cap - 1400m
1st – Le Jeduma 2nd – Sheisamadoozy 3rd – Plain Mary 4th – Clang De Vere
Jockey D. Craven was fined $100 for contravening AR85A in that he failed to fulfil his engagement on MR MAGORIUM.
Prior to declaring correct weight, stewards considered an objection from C. Reith, rider of ZA LOVETT, in that he was of the opinion he was denied a fair start. After considering his submissions and reviewing the video footage of the start, and noting the requirements of the provisions of AR134, stewards deemed that any ground lost by ZA LOVETT was as a result of its own accord and therefore ZA LOVETT was declared a runner and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.
ZA LOVETT (C. Reith) began awkwardly, resulting in the horse losing valuable ground.
DREAM TAKER (C. Kearney) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with PLAIN MARY (J. Letherby).
DREAM TAKER (C. Kearney) overraced in the early stages.
Approaching the 600m, BAG THE PROFIT (M. Hellyer) shifted out and away from the heels of the tiring DREAM TAKER (C. Kearney) and in doing so inconvenienced NOT DECLARED.
Near the 200m, BLACK KATANA (R. Wiggins) was tightened for room in attempting to take a run where debatable room existed between TINKLER’S LANE (S. Kennedy), which had a tendency to shift out, and SHADOW WITHIN (J. Taylor), which shifted in slightly.
SHEISAMADOOZY (P. Hammersley) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
BAG THE PROFIT (M. Hellyer) was held up for clear running over the final 100m.
MR MAGORIUM (I. Coombes) and LE JEDUMA (S. Katsidis) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 4: Aqua Blue Pool Service Open H'cap - 1600m,
1st – In Rehearsal 2nd – Riseupsinging 3rd – Millers Wheel 4th – Roy’s Legacy
Apprentice S. Holcombe, rider of IN REHEARSAL, was found guilty of a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip more than the permitted number of times between the 400m and 200m. S. Holcombe was fined $400.
A post-race veterinary examination of GRUNGLE revealed the horse to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer B. Hill was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for GRUNGLE prior to its next race start.
Race 5: PCS Finance Class 1 H'cap – 1600m
1st – Side To Side 2nd – Daytime Drama 3rd – Coroner 4th – Bella Sirena
SIDE TO SIDE, which got its near fore leg caught up in the barrier stall, was removed from the gates, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
RUMPAPUMPUM (A. Erhart) was tightened for room at the start between SIDE TO SIDE (S. Scriven) and CORONER (D. Browne), which shifted in after beginning awkwardly.
TELBRON GOLD (A. Spinks) and UMHLANGA ROCKS (I. Coombes) were tightened for room at the start between BELLA SIRENA (J. Byrne) and DIEHARD TRYING (J. Holder), which shifted out.
Near the 700m, DIEHARD TRYING (J. Holder) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of BELLA SIRENA (J. Byrne), which was taken in by TELBRON GOLD (A. Spinks).
UMHLANGA ROCKS was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and shifted in near the 400m, brushing the running rail.
MAGIC SYMPHONY (P. Hammersley) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
SIDE TO SIDE (S. Scriven) had a tendency to lay in over the final 300m.
DIEHARD TRYING (J. Holder) was held up for clear running over the final 80m.
DIEHARD TRYING raced wide for the majority of the event.
IT’S WUNDERBAR lost its off fore plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination of IT’S WUNDERBAR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities other than the gelding had lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 6: EBM Insurance Class 1 H'cap – 1600m
1st – Under The Counter 2nd – Moringa’s King 3rd – Dubai Oasis 4th – Our Wave
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer T. Miller regarding the circumstances surrounding the late notification of rider for OUR WAVE.
UNDER THE COUNTER, which sustained minor injuries in its float on the way to the course, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon prior to the race and cleared to start.
SOHO MADAME, which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin.
UNDER THE COUNTER (J. Byrne) began awkwardly.
MULSANNE (I. Coombes) was slow to begin.
BRADASH (S. Kennedy) was caught wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
FORBES (S. Katsidis) and TUSCADEMUS (J. Holder) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight and until near the 200m.
Leaving the 200m, MULSANNE (I. Coombes) was tightened for room when racing between MARK ONE (A. Pattillo) and SOHO MADAME (M. Radecker), which shifted out under pressure.
SOHO MADAME raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: RAAS Rights Class 4 H'cap 1000m
1st – Sword Of Damocles 2nd – Martha’s Vineyard 3rd – Star Of Minto 4th – Belboah
SWORD OF DAMOCLES (A. Pattillo) and LAURELS (J. Wood) were tightened for room on jumping away between GALLANT PILOT (J. Letherby)and STAR OF NOOSA (C. Priest), which was taken in by BELBOAH (M. Hellyer).
Near the 600m, KRUGERRAND (D. Browne) was checked when racing to the inside of SWORD OF DAMOCLES (A. Pattillo) and GALLANT PILOT (J. Letherby). STAR OF NOOSA (C. Priest), which was trailing, was also checked in this incident. Stewards deemed that GALLANT PILOT hung in at this point despite the efforts of its rider to the degree that it forced SWORD OF DAMOCLES inwards, resulting in KRUGERRAND being tightened for room. Whilst not taking the matter any further, stewards did remind apprentice Letherby, rider of GALLANT PILOT, of his obligations to provide sufficient racing room to runners to his inside.
Approaching the 100m, STAR OF MINTO (S. Katsidis) had to be steadied off the heels of MONASHEE PRINCE (A. Spinks), which shifted in under pressure.
Race 8: Holmans Accounting & Finance Services Class 2 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Coen 2nd – Elshamah 3rd – Runjana 4th – Truesdale
LEFT HOOK (K. Pope) and MONCHENGLABACH (J. Holder) were slow to begin.
RED STAR (J. Letherby) and WILL IMPRESS (M. Hellyer) made contact on jumping away.
TRUESDALE (S. Katsidis) was inclined to overrace in the early stages of the event.
Leaving the 800m, RED TSAR (J. Letherby) shifted in, making contact with the running rail. As a result, MONCHENGLABACH, which was trailing, shifted out, taking LEFT HOOK wider on the track.. LEFT HOOK was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.
LEFT HOOK hung out rounding the home turn.
Approaching the 200m, TRUESDALE (S. Katsidis) was disappointed for a tight run between ELSHAMAH (R. Wiggins) and INDESEADO (P. Hammersley).
TRUESDALE (S. Katsidis) was held up for clear running in the straight until approaching the 200m.
INDESEADO (P. Hammersley) was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on COEN today as compared with previous tactics on the horse this campaign, trainer I. Livingstone explained that the instructions to jockeys had been the same with the intention to press forward, however circumstances that developed during the race prevented the horse from occupying a more forward position in previous starts. He further stated that he instructed apprentice James to press forward today from the wide barrier with a view to obtaining a forward position. Stewards noted the explanation.
Stewards questioned apprentice K. James and her master Mr I. Livingstone regarding her failure to claim her full allowance at today’s meeting. After considering the explanation, stewards were satisfied there were mitigating circumstances and took the matter no further.
