Race 1: Michael Hellyer – Apprentice Of The Year Maiden QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Gypsy Rock 2nd – Shady Deal 3rd – Sui Babe 4th – Tingles Toes
SHADY DEAL (L. Deguara) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 800m, TINGLES MY TOES (P. Hammersley) commenced to overrace and shifted out to avoid the heels of TIME DOUBT (D. Griffin). TINGLES MY TOES continued to overrace for some distance. Trainer’s representative Ms Smith was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt regarding its racing manners.
Passing the 600m, SHADY DEAL improved on to the heels of TIME DOUBT (D. Griffin) and shifted out, forcing TINGLES MY TOES wider on the track.
Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on DANCING AL and the performance of the gelding, particularly the reason for the horse being positioned in the second half of the field which was in contrast to its most recent start. Jockey Stewart stated he had been instructed to race in a forward position, however when it became apparent he would be unable to maintain the position outside the leader, he elected to take hold and settle DANCING AL just off the speed. He further stated that once positioned behind horses at no stage did DANCING AL travel well and was under pressure from approaching the 500m. Trainer B. Costello confirmed the instructions and advised of his disappointment in the performance and stated that he would now be sending the gelding for an immediate spell. Mr Costello undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality which comes to light that may have had a bearing on today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination of DANCING AL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from DANCING AL.
GYPSY ROCK lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 2: Jason McLachlan – Trainer Of The Year Maiden H'cap - 1600m
1st – Bold Dancer 2nd – Granite King 3rd – Natane 4th – Jamdit
Connections of JAMDIT advised that the gelding would lead if possible today as the horse had not been racing well when positioned back half of the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.
Connections of RED OPINION advised that the gelding, which normally races in a forward position, would be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
USTON (M. Abe) was hampered at the start and lost ground when tightened for room between RIGHT BID (B. Stewart) and EMPEZAR (N. Thomas), which shifted out.
USTON and GRANITE KING (J. Piper) overraced in the early stages.
PAMELA’S WONDER (B. Wallace), which overraced during the middle stages, improved onto the heels of RIGHT BID (B. Stewart) at the 800m and had to be steadied and as a result shifted wider on the track for a short distance.
USTON (M. Abe) shifted out under pressure near the 200m and again approaching the 100m. Stewards advised M. Abe, rider of USTON, that he must exercise more care in similar circumstances.
EMPEZAR raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of MAKYEAH, which overraced during the early stages and then tailed off to finish last, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Connections of MAKYEAH were advised that a warning was being placed on the horse regarding its performance, and that should MAKYEAH race again in a similar manner at a TAB venue, further action may be taken against the horse.
Following this race the track rating was downgraded to Dead 5.

EVENING VISION (J. Piper) jumped away awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition.
EVENING VISION was held up rounding the home turn.
Approaching the 100m, AL CHICAGO was momentarily held up for clear running after improving up on to the heels of NOOSA BAY (J. Kropp).
IMPACTOR (J. Byrne), KLAIREFONTEIN (D. Browne) and MANNABON (P. Hammersley) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Damian Browne – Jockey Of The Year CG&E Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Big Tony 2nd – Meld 3rd – Guns 4th – Judges Verdict
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer R. Reardon for the late declaration of rider for COLLATERAL BLUES.
POINCIANA (P. Hammersley) blundered on jumping away.
Shortly after the start TUSCADEMUS (J. Wood) and POINCIANA (P. Hammersley) were hampered when DUSTY’S FELT (C. Gilby) shifted out.
Near the 1100m, COLLATERAL BLUES (B. Wallace) had to be steadied when racing between JUDGE’S VERDICT (K. Forrester) and GUNS (E. Wilkinson), which shifted in.
Race 5: Caloundra RSL Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Sarabah Rose 2nd – Speckled Shining 3rd – Strike On Goal 4th – Bob’s Title
PEGUNNY BRAVE (D. Griffin), ISLAND’S EDGE (T. Huxham) and ICE APPLE (N. Thomas) were slow to begin.
STRIKE ON GOAL (J. Byrne) overraced with its head in the air in the early and middle stages.
ROSELON (E. Wilkinson) raced with its head in the air for a short distance leaving the 800m after being restrained from the heels of DON’S SURPRISE (S. Katsidis) when the pace slackened. ROSELON continued to overrace until a point approaching the 600m and as a result shifted in, making contact with ICE APPLE (N. Thomas).
When the pace slackened leaving the 800m, PEGUNNY BRAVE overraced at the heels of ICE APPLE and as a result shifted out, hampering both INTHANON (B. Wallace) and PRINCE LIAM (B. Stewart), forcing those horses wider on the track. PEGUNNY BRAVE continued to overrace until near the 600m.
SARABAH ROSE (M. Hughes) shifted out under pressure in the straight.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of SARABAH ROSE, trainer M. Mair stated that, in his opinion, the horse in finishing 8th at its last start was not entirely disappointing as it was not beaten by a large margin and the field was superior in standard to today’s event. He added he had expected a forward showing today from the mare. Stewards noted the explanation.
Stewards questioned T. Huxham regarding the performance of ISLAND’S EDGE. T. Huxham stated that the horse raced greenly throughout the event and, in his opinion, did not handle the rain affected conditions. He further stated that the horse would be more suited to racing over more ground and was of the opinion that ISLAND’S EDGE ran on fairly over the concluding stages.
Following this race the track rating was downgraded to Slow 6.
Race 6: Caloundra RSL Class 4 - 1300m
1st – Twigerre 2nd – damnation 3rd – Lucky Dubai 4th – Dienekes
DANEKARA (D. Griffin) and FAME (J. Wood) were slow to begin.
Near the 900m, LUCKY DUBAI (D. Browne), which was overracing, improved on to the heels of DAMNATION (J. Byrne) and had to be steadied and lost ground.
LUCKY DUBAI again improved onto heels at the 800m when overracing and made the 800m turn awkwardly.
BUBBLED (S. Katsidis) made the 800m turn awkwardly and shifted wider on the track.
Leaving the 100m, CASH IN A HURRY (E. Wilkinson), which was tiring, was hampered when racing between BLOOMIN THUNDER (B. Stewart), which shifted in under pressure, and BUBBLED (S. Katsidis), which shifted out under pressure.
DIENEKES (P. Hammersley) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned jockey D. Browne regarding the tactics adopted on LUCKY DUBAI between the 500m and 200m, in particular the reason why he did not improve into the race when it appeared he had the opportunity to follow DAMNATION, which was improving into the race at that point. Stewards also questioned the time taken by jockey Browne to shift to the outside to obtain clear running near the 300m. Jockey Brown explained that when DAMNATION improved into the race he rode the horse forward however LUCKY DUBAI, in his opinion, was still unbalanced and leading with the wrong leg after becoming awkward after leaving the 800m, and as a result was unable to improve with DAMANATION. He further stated at a point approaching the 300m he was forced to remove one set of his goggles as he was unable to see due to throw-back from other runners. Jockey Browne added that at that point he improved on to the heels of LION BEAUTY, and despite his intention to improve to the inside where he believed the going was superior, he was forced to make a decision at that point to shift to the outside to avoid that horse’s heels. D. Browne further explained that he was then forced to shift out across the heels of DIENEKES to obtain clear running, which he obtained near the 200m. Stewards noted the explanation.
Apprentice J. Wood was questioned regarding the performance of FAME. He stated that, in his opinion, the horse was not suited to today’s distance and was not able to go the early speed and raced at the tail of the field. He added he had difficulty with visibility due to the kick back of other runners and was of the opinion that FAME finished the race off well.
When questioned regarding the performance of BUBBLED, S. Katsidis stated that it had been the intention to lead on the mare, however when unable to obtain the lead was happy to position his mount just behind the speed. He further added that BUBBLED travelled reasonably in the conditions and he was of the opinion that the horse had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer T. Hall will be interviewed regarding the performance.
CALL TO ORDER was declared a late scratching at 3.25 pm due to the downgrading of the track.
Following this race the track rating was downgraded to Heavy 8 at 4.02 pm.

Near the 300m, WHISPERING ACT (C. Small) and SIR GRAHAME (S. Katsidis) were both inconvenienced when SEATTLE DANE (D. Griffin) shifted out under pressure.
WHISPERING ACT (C. Small) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned P. Hammersley regarding the tactics adopted on MORINGA’S MCCOY, which led in today’s event which was in contrast to its most recent starts. P. Hammersley stated that he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position however elected to ride to the lead when it became apparent he was going to be caught in a 3-wide position. Trainer R. Bradshaw confirmed the instructions, however added that it had not been his intention to lead. Stewards noted the explanations however reminded R. Bradshaw of his obligations under AR135A.
A post-race veterinary examination of SHOW ME WHY revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer’s representative P. Wallace was advised that a veterinary clearance would required for SHOW ME WHY prior to its next race start.
Race 8: Tom & Carol Blacklaw F&M Class 2 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Marmillion 2nd – Trickett 3rd – In A Tangle 4th – Miss Rye
MISS REIBY was declared a late scratching at 3.32 pm due to the downgrading of the track.
Stewards granted permission for BEJEKA to race without its off-side bubble cheeker, which was part of the horse’s declared gear. B. Smith’s representative C. Lytton was advised that a fined of $100 was being imposed for the presentation of BEJEKA to the enclosure with incorrect gear.
SHAMELESS (R. McMahon) improved on to heels leaving the 600m and had to be steadied.
Stewards questioned B. Stewart, rider of DANEWIN GIRL, which performed below market expectations. B. Stewart stated the horse traveled well, however when placed under pressure failed to respond leaving the 600m and raced awkwardly in the going over the concluding stages. Trainer R. Ludwig stated that, in his opinion, the poor performance could be attributed to the extremely rain affected conditions and he would continued with the filly’s current preparation.
