TORNADOES (N. Thomas) began awkwardly.
KENNY’S MAGIC (K. Gates) began awkwardly and shifted in, becoming awkward at the heels of TORNADOES and having to be steadied.
Leaving the 800m LORD ALISTAIR (C. Munce) had to be steadied off the heels of TORNADOES after hanging in.
TRICKIN (B. Thomson) became unbalanced near the 500m.
Near the 150m SHOW RULER (M. Cahill) shifted in and away from TORNADOES which shifted in under pressure.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SHOW RULER, jockey M. Cahill stated that after travelling well in the early and middle stages the gelding failed to respond to his riding in the straight and in his opinion was disappointing. Trainer T. Miller stated that whilst he was a little disappointed with the horse’s performance today, he felt that the quick back-up from last week may have had a telling effect on the horse’s performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of SHOW RULER revealed the presence of a slight laceration to its near hind leg.

Near the 500m ALESTELLE LADY, which was overracing, blundered.
REMARKABLE (A. Taylor) shifted in of its own accord near the 700m and brushed the running rail.
After racing wide throughout the event, SHEER ECHELON (K. Pope) hung out after leaving the 800m and continued to hang out rounding the home turn and shifted out under pressure in the straight. Trainer R. McCall indicated that he would experiment with the addition of blinkers in an effort to have the horse race tractably. A warning was issued.
On return to scale REMARKABLE took charge of its rider apprentice A. Taylor and galloped for some distance before being pulled up. A post-race veterinary examination of REMARKABLE revealed no abnormalities. Apprentice Taylor was examined by the Club’s doctor and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.

OVER FRIENDLY overraced in the middle stages.
When questioned regarding the early tactics adopted on DUKE OF DANES, C. Munce stated that whilst it was not his intention to lead as he did, DUKE OF DANES began very well and found the lead without being pressured and in his opinion raced keenly due to the addition of pacifiers for the first time and also being fresh with it being a month between runs. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 4: CHAPS MENSWEAR CALOUNDRA C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP - 1200m
1st – O’Reilly’s Gold 2nd – Shah Rukh 3rd – Rolling Heights 4th – Bucks Point
Trainer B. Herne was fined $100 under AR. 114 for failing to scratch DEFY ALL ODDS (8.32 a.m.) by the prescribed time.

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 800m where LAUGHING CRUSADER (C. Priest) clipped the heels of O’REILLY’S GOLD (D. Griffin) and blundered. It was established that near the 800m D. Griffin, the rider of O’REILLY’S GOLD, which was racing in a four-wide position, elected to go forward and once assuming the lead restrained his mount slightly resulting in LAUGHING CRUSADER, which was following, improving quickly onto the heels of O’REILLY’S GOLD, clipping that runner’s heels and blundering. Whilst stewards were of the opinion that D. Griffin had not steadied the pace excessively, the incident occurred due to a combination of apprentice Priest failing to steady her mount quickly enough and the pace being steadied slightly. In the circumstances stewards took no direct action other than to remind apprentice Priest of her responsibility to ride in a manner that does not compromise the safety of herself or other riders.
Apprentice C. Priest, the rider of LAUGHING CRUSADER, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100m and was fined $200.
Race 5: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL SERVICES OPEN H’CAP - 1800m
1st – Slepner 2nd – Beautiful Day 3rd – Winmara 4th – Kinsmate
SIONG TEE (D. Tanti) began awkwardly.
PATMOSS (N. Thomas) and BEAUTIFUL DAY (D. Missen) were slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SIONG TEE, jockey D. Tanti stated that the horse raced ungenerously in the early stages and he believed that the addition of blinkers as well as the horse being fresh due to a month between runs may have contributed to the performance. He advised stewards he had recommended to the trainer that the blinkers be removed. A post-race veterinary examination of SIONG TEE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PATMOSS, jockey N. Thomas stated that the horse travelled well until near the 800m, however when the pace quickened the horse failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of ALONG CAME DOLLY (C. Munce), which performed below expectations, revealed no significant abnormalities.

Wood stated that after being slow to begin the gelding raced greenly for the majority of the event and was inclined to hang in in the early and middle stages and near the 200m improved on to the heels of the tiring I’M ALL HEART and had to shift to the inside of that runner to obtain clear running and found the line strongly. Apprentice Wood stated that he advised connections that he felt the horse would benefit from the addition of blinkers. Stewards noted his explanation.
