SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
As A. Taylor was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
From Ipswich 18.2.11: Stewards reprimanded apprentice P. Keane under AR. 85B for failing to fulfil his engagement on BLUE EGO in Race 6 as he was riding at the Sunshine Coast.
Race 1: BRIDGE SEAFOODS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1600m
1st – Fuzzalama 2nd – Domras 3rd – In His Image 4th – Alphonse
Trainer T. Gayler was reprimanded under AR. 59A for failing to produce the Document of Description for WORLD WE LIVE IN.
Shortly after the start ALPHONSE (P. Keane), IN HIS IMAGE (D. McWhinney), DOMRAS (N. Thomas) and FUZZALAMA (M. Wood) were all tightened for room between KALINGA ECHO (K. Wharton) and RAPID FLOW (M. Hellyer), which shifted out when being ridden along. FUZZALAMA was forced to steady from the heels of KALINGA ECHO in this incident. Apprentice M. Hellyer, the rider of RAPID FLOW, was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount when shifting ground.
CLASSY FRANKY (C. Priest) and KALINGA ECHO overraced during the early stages.
Rounding the home turn FUZZALAMA was held up on the heels of MISS VITALITY (K. Fuji) and had to be steadied.
IN HIS IMAGE had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 400m until a point near the 200m.
Near the 200m WORLD WE LIVE IN (E. Kehoe) was tightened for room between IN HIS IMAGE and ALPHONSE, which shifted in to obtain clear running. In this incident WORLD WE LIVE IN became unbalanced and had to be steadied.
A post-race veterinary examination of CROISADE (R. Wiggins) revealed no significant abnormalities.
DOMRAS lost its off hind plate in running.
Stewards questioned trainer G. Taylor and apprentice M. Hellyer, rider of RAPID FLOW, regarding the tactics employed on the gelding, particularly the reasons for apprentice Hellyer riding RAPID FLOW forward in the early stages to obtain the lead which is in contrast to the gelding’s usual racing pattern. Mr Taylor explained that he had received instructions from the owners of RAPID FLOW to instruct apprentice Hellyer to ride RAPID FLOW in a forward position and acknowledged he had failed to advise stewards of the change of tactics. Of further concern to stewards was M. Hellyer’s continued aggression in his riding when it was apparent that he had consolidated the lead passing the 1400m which ultimately resulted in a faster than average first 1000m of the event. M. Hellyer explained that he was intent on securing the lead and in compliance with his instructions and after doing so he endeavoured to steady the horse down the back straight, however when CLASSY FRANKY progressed to his outside, RAPID FLOW overraced and would not settle despite his efforts. Stewards advised M. Hellyer that in their opinion he had unnecessarily continued to pressure RAPID FLOW when it was apparent he had consolidated the lead and he erred in not attempting to steady the speed sooner than he had on this occasion. At a subsequent inquiry Mr Taylor pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 135A in that he failed to notify stewards of his intention to change riding tactics and was fined $200. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account Mr Taylor’s personal mitigating circumstances.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey R. Wiggins regarding the tactics adopted on CROISADE, particularly when leaving the 1200m where it appeared there was an opportunity to shift closer to the fence and trail MISS VITALITY (K. Fuji). Jockey Wiggins stated that after beginning awkwardly he had been positioned further back in the field than he had been instructed and as the horse has a tendency to overrace he elected to remain three wide and allow the horse to stride forward in an attempt to position the horse closer to the lead. He added that in his opinion the horse proved disappointing and when asked for an effort failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination of CROISADE revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. O’dea confirmed his disappointment in the performance and in light of this reported that he would now consider the horse’s current preparation and gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may have affected the horse’s performance.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SLOW 7.
Race 2: BOSS BUILDING MAINTENANCE 3YO MAIDEN QTIS PLATE - 1200m
1st – Product 2nd – Teifi Valley 3rd – Tit Tat Tooee 4th – Justaz
Correct weight was delayed to enable T. Huxham, the rider of 4th placegetter JUSTAZ, to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 2nd placegetter TEIFI VALLEY (S. Scriven). After viewing the film, T. Huxham indicated that he did not wish to proceed with an objection and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.
JUSTAZ (T. Huxham) jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
Upon jumping away the buckle on the offside stirrup leather of OH SUNDAY (S. Kennedy) became unfastened, placing the rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event and as a result OH SUNDAY took no competitive part in the race.
RETRO RAZZ (M. Heagney) was severely tightened for room at the start and had to be checked between ZAMBONI (B. Stewart) and WARANGA (R. Hancock), which was taken out by THREATENED DANGER (M. Wood), which had been taken out by TEIFI VALLEY, which jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 800m JUSTAZ had to be severely checked after shifting out on to the heels of TEIFI VALLEY, which shifted in slightly at that point. JUSTAZ then commenced to overrace and raced greenly until obtaining clear running near the 400m.
Stewards intend opening an inquiry into the reasons for ZAMBONI being checked when racing to the inside of and behind TIT TAT TOOEE near the 200m.
A post-race veterinary examination of I’M ALL HEART (A. Spinks) revealed that the filly had pulled up in a distressed state and was showing signs of heat stress. Trainer C. Cousins, who reported that he intended to spell the filly, was advised by stewards to present a veterinary clearance for I’M ALL HEART prior to its next start.
Race 3: MILLENNIUM 3 FINANCIAL SERVICES CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Mondean 2nd – Sleek Machine 3rd – Twogundan 4th – Just About Ready
SHOW RULER (M. Radecker) was slow to begin.
JUST ABOUT READY (D. Browne) was a little slow into stride.
Near the 700m REIZARB (S. Kennedy) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between SHOW RULER and MONDEAN (D. Missen), which shifted in.
HAWK HUNTER (C. Priest) raced wide throughout.
SLEEK MACHINE (A. Spinks) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight and approaching the 200m was forced to shift out across the heels of MONDEAN to obtain clear running.
A post-race veterinary examination of REIZARB revealed the horse to be suffering cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer L. Brazier was advised that before REIZARB is permitted to race again the horse must barrier trial and he must produce the results of an ECG conducted on the horse, including a veterinary clearance.
Race 4: JPG DESIGN & PRINT C,G&E CLASS 3 PLATE - 1400m
1st – Clangor 2nd – Troopingthecolour 3rd – Azzurra Bay 4th – Coroner
MONTALBERT (C. Priest), which was slow to begin, was tightened shortly after the start between REBELLIOUS SPIRIT (D. McWhinney) and TROOPINGTHECOLOUR (R. Wiggins), which shifted in.
A post-race veterinary examination of ORMOND ROAD (M. Hellyer), which tailed off, revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5: CHU UNDERWRITING F&M CLASS 3 PLATE - 1400m
1st – Figasaurus 2nd – Sheza Hero 3rd – Jive Queen 4th – A Pair Of Diamonds
READILY (W. D'Avila) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
A PAIR OF DIAMONDS (D. Browne) jumped out at the start and bumped JIVE QUEEN (S. Galloway).
READILY raced ungenerously with its head up during the early and middle stages.
READILY bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the horse had bled, trainer G. Jeffrey was advised that it will now incur a lifetime ban from racing under AR. 53A(5).
W. D’Avila, the rider of READILY, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(4) of using the whip on a horse out of contention. W. D’Avila’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 20 February, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 9 March 2011. When assessing penalty, stewards considered that jockey D’Avila’s actions in continuing to apply the whip to READILY when it should have been obvious to a rider of his seniority that something was amiss with the horse were unacceptable in all the circumstances.
Race 6: KBW COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP - 1300m
1st – Western Run 2nd – Biddydongood 3rd – Moon Landing 4th – Defy All Odds
Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 under AR. 59A for failing to produce identification papers for HOT DUBAI.
FIBRE KING (R. Hancock) was slow to begin.
DEFY ALL ODDS (M. Speers) was tightened for room and lost ground at the start between BUBKA (A. Spinks) and SOOTY (O. Turpin), which shifted out.
Near the 850m FIBRE KING had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room to the inside of SOOTY which shifted in.
PENGUIN SUITE (D. McWhinney) raced wide for the majority of the event.
HOT DUBAI (N. Thomas) laid in under pressure from the 400m onwards and then had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
Race 7: KB CONSULTANTS F&M MAIDEN H’CAP - 1300m
1st – Sheer Echelon 2nd – Tycoon Stella 3rd – Desert Canny 4th – Analin Star
Trainer R. Wilson advised stewards that the rider would be instructed to try to obtain cover on TYCOON STELLA (O. Turpin) in an attempt to have the horse settle. However TYCOON STELLA was not ridden in this fashion as it raced in the lead without being challenged.
The start of this race was delayed when ANALIN STAR (T. Huxham) got its near hind hoof caught on the barrier partition ledge.
ANALIN STAR was slow to begin.
PRIVATE OFFER (W. D'Avila) stood flat-footed as the start was effected and took no further part in the event. Connections were advised that PRIVATE OFFER will be required to barrier trial prior to its next start.
T. Huxham, the rider of ANALIN STAR, was reprimanded under AR. 137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the winning post.
