Race 1: OGE GROUP ARCHITECTS QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Spurtastic 2nd – Hushovd 3rd – Run Away Ruby 4th – Callan Park

A pre-race veterinary examination of DENS ERA (K. Wharton), which was fractious in its tie-up stall, cleared the filly to start.

The start was delayed when DENS ERA proved difficult to load. Trainer R. Bradshaw was advised that the filly must officially trial to stewards’ satisfaction before being permitted to race again.

RUN AWAY RUBY (R. McMahon) and BLACK BANNER (A. Spinks) were slow to begin.

TAKOTNA (J. Stanley) jumped out at the start making contact with SPURTASTIC (Michael Palmer), which in turn shifted out making contact with HUSHOVD (P. Hammersley), which began awkwardly.

Approaching the 800m TAKOTNA commenced to overrace for a short distance and threw its head in the air.

HUSHOVD, which raced greenly throughout the event, hung in under pressure over the concluding stages, making contact with CALLAN PARK (D. Browne).

Near the finish line RUN AWAY RUBY shifted out under pressure and brushed CALLAN PARK.



Race 2: PFD FOOD SERVICES CLASS 6 H’CAP - 1800m
1st – Miss Reed 2nd – Handsome 3rd – Smokin’ Gun 4th – Prince Telesto

MISS REED (L. Rolls) and ARIZONA SUNSET (M. Radecker) were slow to begin.

HANDSOME (E. Wilkinson) was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.

SLEPNER (T. Huxham) shifted wider on the track leaving the 800m and raced wide from that point on.

Stewards questioned M. Radecker regarding her tactics on ARIZONA SUNSET which after missing the start raced three wide throughout before tiring over the concluding stages. M. Radecker explained that after the horse had missed the start she elected to ride forward in an effort to gain a position in the running line with cover, however was unable to take up a position nearer the rails and subsequently was obliged to race three wide without cover for the entire event. M. Radecker explained that ARIZONA SUNSET races best when over more ground than today’s race, however felt that the horse would take improvement in that it was having its third start this campaign. After considering her explanation, stewards advised M. Radecker that in their opinion her ride on ARIZONA SUNSET lacked initiative and it was expected that she would show a better standard of judgment in the future.

Race 3: RACE ZONE RACING SUPPLIES CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Days Gone By 2nd – Hi Jo Silver 3rd – Midnite Raid 4th – Flying Mel

Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 under LR. 67 for failing to declare D. Griffin as the rider of GRAND HOMME by the prescribed time.

As M. Speers was unable to fulfil his engagement on TOYHERO as a result of injury, he was replaced by M. Radecker.

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer C. Jordan in respect of R. McMahon being declared as the rider of GAZE ON when D. Griffin had been engaged to ride that gelding.

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer R. Nicholson regarding J. Byrne being declared as the rider of AREA FIFTYONE when M. Heagney had been engaged to ride that gelding.

Trainer R. Heathcote advised stewards that following its disappointing run last start, LUCASAM (R. McMahon) had trialled well and it will be the intention to have the gelding ridden aggressively from the barriers today.

LUCASAM, which was late to arrive on course, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Stewards will convene an inquiry at a time and date to be fixed to allow trainer R. Heathcote to be present to provide evidence regarding LUCASAM’s late arrival on course.

TOYHERO (M. Radecker) was slow to begin.

HI JO SILVER (D. Browne) overraced in the early and middle stages.

Leaving the 600m HI JO SILVER shifted out around the heels of the tiring COUNT IGLESIA (T. Huxham) to obtain clear running, making contact with MODERN AL (Matthew Palmer).

LUCASAM (R. McMahon) was inclined to shift out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of COUNT IGLESIA, which finished tailed off, revealed the horse to be lame in the off hind leg and that it had lost its off fore plate during running. Trainer G. Moon was advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance before COUNT IGLESIA would be permitted to race again.

HI JO SILVER lost both front plates in running.

A post-race swab sample was taken from LUCASAM.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed FLYING MEL (A. Spinks) to be suffering a mild case of heat stress.

Race 4: NIAGARA FURNITURE FINISHES PTY LTD MAIDEN H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Laughing Crusader 2nd – Drag Queen 3rd – Tit Tat Tooee 4th – Desert Canny

Trainer T. Crane was fined $100 under LR. 67 for failing to declare D. Browne as the rider of POWER BOSS by the prescribed time.

The start was delayed some considerable time when TIT TAT TOOEE (J. Stanley) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Upon arriving at the barriers, the saddle on that runner had shifted, necessitating TIT TAT TOOEE being resaddled. Trainer P. Duff was advised that a warning would be placed on the manners of TIT TAT TOOEE.

The start was further delayed when the saddle on LAUGHING CRUSADER (C. Priest) shifted en route to the barriers, resulting in that horse also having to be resaddled.

MORINGA’S HOMER (Michael Palmer) was slow to begin.

Near the 1100m MOUNTAIN OF GOLD (P. Schmidt) had to be momentarily steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of JEDILAD (R. Hancock), which shifted in.

TOUGH TACTICS (Matthew Palmer) and LAUGHING CRUSADER raced wide for the majority of the event.

Leaving the 400m LAUGHING CRUSADER commenced to hang in when placed under pressure and shifted in near the 300m causing its rider to stop riding and straighten her mount.

When questioned into the improved performance of LAUGHING CRUSADER, trainer R. Wilson explained that the horse had met with interference when racing at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, 6 February and as a result of this raced greenly at its next run on Sunday, 20 February. Mr Wilson explained that he was not disappointed with those two runs under the circumstances and added that the horse had pleased him in its track work leading up to today’s event and he expected the horse to maintain its current form. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 5: NATURAL PEST CONTROL SUNSHINE COAST CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Vipera Gold 2nd – Shockwaves 3rd – Folichonne 4th – Mayweather

The start was delayed when the saddle on BARMAZAL (J. Byrne) shifted en route to the barriers, necessitating that runner being resaddled.

VIPERA GOLD (A. Spinks) began awkwardly.

SHOCKWAVES (A. Kitson) and BELLA SIRENA (E. Wilkinson) made contact on jumping away as a result of both horses shifting ground.

Leaving the 1300m VIPERA GOLD had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MITCHUM (K. Wharton), which shifted in. K. Wharton was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Near the 1000m BARMAZAL commenced to overrace and when the pace slackened improved on to the heels of SOPHIES SPECIAL (M. Radecker) and shifted out forcing FOLICHONNE (T. Huxham) wider on the track. FOLICHONNE then raced wide from that point onwards. MONTREUX JAZZ (C. Munce), which was racing outside FOLICHONNE, was also inconvenienced.

MONTREUX JAZZ raced wide for the majority of the event.

MITCHUM overraced in the middle stages.

A post-race veterinary examination of VIPERA GOLD revealed the horse to have bled during the event. Acting under the provisions of AR. 53A, stewards advised trainer L. Tipper that the horse would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months and before being permitted to resume racing the mare must perform satisfactorily in a gallop over at least 1000m in the presence of a steward.

Race 6: MONACO CALOUNDRA MAIDEN H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Grey Mambo 2nd – Stand And Cheer 3rd – Justaz 4th – Nova Ice

Trainer M. Smith was reprimanded under LR. 67 for failing to declare a rider for DELTESCO by the prescribed time. In considering penalty, stewards took into account Mr Smith’s exemplary record regarding this rule.

Due to A. Smith being injured, she was replaced as the rider of DELTESCO by apprentice C. Priest.

STAND AND CHEER (C. Munce) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with JUSTAZ (T. Huxham).

CREDIT POINT (R. McMahon) began awkwardly.

DELTESCO (C. Priest) and JUSTAZ raced wide for the majority of the event.

GREY MAMBO (K. Forrester) shifted in near the 900m, bumping NOVA ICE (P. Schmidt).

Near the 800m DAWN RETURN (O. Turpin) had to be eased to avoid the heels of CASA STAR (E. Wilkinson), which shifted in.

CASA STAR hung out rounding the home turn and had to be steadied off the heels of NOVA ICE.

EXPRESSWAY (D. Browne) had to be steadied leaving the 300m when disappointed for a run between DELTESCO and NITRO CIRCUS (A. Spinks), both of which shifted ground.

Race 7: FIRETEK SOLUTION CLASS 3 PLATE - 1000m
1st – Dixie Lass 2nd – Daneomite 3rd – Get That Indya 4th – Scapa

PEGASUS PRIDE (C. Priest) was slow to begin.

DIXIE LASS (J. Wood) began awkwardly and threw its head in the air and lost ground.

DANEOMITE (P. Hammersley) began awkwardly.

Approaching the 800m SCAPA (K. Wharton) shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of COMZELITA (L. Rolls).

PRINCEOFTHEPLAZA (C. Munce) lost both hind plates during running.

When questioned regarding the performance of RED HUSSERATI, M. Palmer stated that in his opinion the horse was not totally comfortable in today’s track conditions and was also of the opinion that the horse may be looking for more ground at this stage of its preparation.

A post-race veterinary examination of IMAGINED (D. Browne) revealed the mare to be showing an awkward action in the hind legs. Jockey D. Browne stated that in his opinion the horse did not feel comfortable in its action and as such trainer C. Anderson was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance prior to IMAGINED being permitted to race or trial.

Race 8: CALOUNDRA CITY REALTY CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Melanotis 2nd – Snip ‘N’ Duck 3rd – Russian Royalty 4th – Finagle

KASSMER was a late scratching at 8.05 a.m. on veterinary advice.

Near the 1100m SPELLO (P. Hammersley) shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of SNIP 'N' DUCK (P. Schmidt).

SNIP 'N' DUCK was held up and unable to obtain clear running from entering the home straight until a point leaving the 150m and when clear the horse ran home strongly.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BUCKS POINT, rider C. Munce stated that in his opinion the horse failed to handle the conditions of today’s track. Trainer M. Mair concurred with jockey Munce’s assessment. A post-race veterinary examination of BUCKS POINT revealed no abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FROM LONDON, jockey J. Byrne stated that he felt the gelding may not have been entirely comfortable in today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of FROM LONDON revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that FROM LONDON must perform a 1000m gallop to the satisfaction of the stewards, with the results of an ECG to be supplied to stewards, prior to the horse being permitted to race again.
