SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

As riders M. Gray, R. McMahon and B. Looker had not renewed licences by 30 June 2011, riding changes were made as per the stewards summary Sheet.


Race 1: Contour Consulting Engineers H'cap – 1600m
1st – Silent Movie 2nd – Dual Chamber 3rd – Mr Slick 4th - Ausworld

After travelling a short distance, DUAL CHAMBER (K. Yoshida) was hampered when tightened for room between MORE ON THE TOE (J. Holder) and AUSWORLD (B. Stewart), which shifted in. B. Stewart, rider of AUSWORLD, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances in future.

DUAL CHAMBER overraced in the early stages when racing 3 wide and was allowed to stride forward to the position outside the leader near the 1000m.


Race 2: Summerveld Racing Stables H'cap - 1000m
1st – Facile Tigre 2nd – Blue Jupiter 3rd – Big Tony 4th – Guissepino

PENNY LOUISE (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

HAWK HUNTER (M. Radecker) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 600m, BILLIE BLUE GUM (J. Bowditch) hung in and bumped MULTIRE MUSIC (S. Seamer).

Shortly after entering the home straight, LONE ASSASSIN (J. Letherby) shifted out around the heels of FIDAKAT (N. Tomizawa) in order to improve and inconvenienced BLUE JUPITER (P. Hammersley).

FACILE TIGRE (B. Rawiller) was held up and unable to secure clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.

FIDAKAT (N. Tomizawa), LONE ASSASSIN (J. Letherby) and GUISSEPINO (J. Holder) all raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice J. Letherby regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of LONE ASSASSIN. J. Letherby stated that the horse lost its footing at the start and as a result was slow to begin, which consequently resulted in the horse being unable to take up its customary forward position. He added that whilst the horse raced keenly throughout the middle stages, LONE ASSASSIN did not finish the race off as expected and, in his view, was not entirely comfortable on today’s rain affected surface.

A post-race veterinary examination of BIG TONY revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. BIG TONY will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.


Race 3: XXXX F&M H'cap – 1300m
1st – Win A Million 2nd – Belletrist 3rd – Maroon Bells 4th – Nicole Amy

Trainer T. Crane informed stewards that he had requested the blinkers and tongue-tie be taken off his runner BON MARCHE with the Trainers’ Service Centre, however this information was not reflected in the race book. Stewards permitted the change of gear, however will confirm this matter with the Trainers’ Service Centre.

MAROON BELLS (N. Thomas) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer J. McLachlan was advised that MAROON BELLS must trial in an official trial prior to its next race start.

LITTLE MCCALL (J. Holder) was slow to begin.

Near the 1000m, LITTLE MCCALL (J. Holder) had to be checked when tightened for room by BON MARCHE (E. Wilkinson), which after receiving initial tightening from KRYPTELON (L. Rolls), shifted in and away from that runner. Whilst stewards acknowledged that the racing manners of BON MARCHE contributed to the incident, L. Rolls, rider of KRYPTELON, was nevertheless reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

Leaving the 400m, BELLETRIST (P. Hammersley) shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped TOBOUGGIE WOOGIE (S. Seamer).

Approaching and passing the 200m, SWEEPSTAKING (D. Browne) was obliged to shift to the outside of the heels of NICOLE AMY (J. Bowditch) in order to improve.

Jockey J. Holder, rider of LITTLE MCCALL, was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race.

TOBOUGGIE WOOGIE and NICOLE AMY raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey C. Munce regarding the tactics employed on CICARELLI and the mare’s overall performance today. Jockey Munce stated that from the awkward alley he was forced to take up a position towards the rear of the field today. He added that the mare’s finishing effort had pleased him, however he did report to connections that it may be beneficial to consider riding CICARELLI in a forward position in future when drawn wide on the track.

A post-race veterinary examination of TOBOUGGIE WOOGIE revealed the horse to be lame behind. Trainer A. Bailey was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for TOBOUGGIE WOOGIE prior to its next race start.

J. Bowditch, rider of the 4th placegetter, Nicole Amy, was fined $100 for failing to weigh in.

Race 4: RCQ Bruce McLachlan QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1200m
1st – Easy Successful 2nd – Internal Revenue 3rd – Denwood 4th – Not To Share

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer P. Strong for the late declaration of ride for GOTTA BE LUCKY.

SWEET REWARD (J. Fry) was slow to begin.

Passing the 800m BIGGLES (J. Bowditch) had to be steadied when tightened for room between OPEN HEART (J. Kropp) and NOT TO SHARE (A. Butler), which was taken in slightly by VIA DEL CORSO (M. Walker).

Rounding the home turn and in the home straight until near the 250m, DENWOOD (P. Hammersley) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

BIGGLES (J. Bowditch) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Approaching the 100m, BIGGLES was disappointed for clear running between FAULTLESS DANCER (S. Galloway) and VIA DEL CORSO (M. Walker).

FAULTLESS DANCER (S. Galloway), BIGGLES (J. Bowditch) and GOTTA BE LUCKY (J. Holder) raced 3 wide throughout.

NOT TO SHARE (A. Butler) and GEE WILLIKER (J. Taylor) raced 4 wide throughout.

VIA DEL CORSO raced very wide throughout.


Race 5:XXXX Sunshine Coast Guineas - 1600m
1st – Shenzhou Steeds 2nd –Under The Eiffel 3rd – Benny’s Buttons 4th – Glow Heart

Trainer J. Symons was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for LAUDIT by the prescribed time.
Trainer P. Duff reported that STEEL ZIP had knocked its head in the stable prior to being transported to the track. STEEL ZIP was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

SIR FOX, which became fractious in the barriers and sustained an injury to its near hind leg, was declared a late scratching at 2.38 pm on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on SIR FOX were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.

EPIC (M. Walker) was slow to begin.

FORBIDDEN FRUIT (E. Wilkinson) and BENNY’S BUTTONS (C. Munce) bumped on jumping away.

Shortly after the start, SIMMERING (D. Browne) shifted in, taking ALOTTA SPUR (R. Wiggins) in on to UNDER THE EIFFEL (J. Mott).

Near the 200m, EPIC (M. Walker) had to be steadied from the heels of STEEL ZIP, which shifted out under pressure.

MR TWEED (K. Wharton) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight, which resulted in jockey Wharton being unable to fully test the horse until leaving the 100m.

When questioned, G. Colless reported that STEEL ZIP did not travel comfortably for him during running and he was forced to apply pressure to the horse to hold a competitive position. He further added that his mount was under pressure passing the 600m and only worked to the line fairly. G. Colless added that, in his opinion, the horse raced like it had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer P. Duff reported that STEEL ZIP has had a lengthy preparation however the horse had pleased him in its work leading up to today’s event but in light of its performance today, he would send the gelding for an immediate spell.


Race 6: Number One Quality Homes (Quality Listed – Caloundra Cup – 2400m
1st – Spechenka 2nd – Gold In Dubai 3rd – Tinseltown 4th – Raeburn

Trainer M. Riley was fined $100 for presenting GOLD IN DUBAI late to the enclosure.

The start of this race was delayed GOLD IN DUBAI cast its near fore plate during the preliminary and required farrier attention.

TEARY EYED (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ROSA DELAGO (N. Thomas), which was inclined to overrace, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TINSELTOWN (C. Ormsby), which shifted in when not fully clear. C. Ormsby, rider of TINSELTOWN, was reprimanded and advised to afford sufficient clearance for his fellow riders in similar circumstances.

ARCENCIEL (S. Seamer) raced 3 wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer B. Ahrens regarding the seemingly improved performance of SPECHENKA. Mr Ahrens explained that consistent with previous preparations the gelding has been able to sprint well fresh and then takes a number of runs to reach peak fitness. He added that at its last start SPECHENKA did not seem entirely comfortable on the Ipswich circuit and the step up in distance of today’s race also suited the gelding.

When questioned, C. Munce was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of VIKING HERO other than it did not feel entirely comfortable in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of VIKING HERO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of REGAL GAZE revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the near hind leg.


Race 7: Reed Property Group Classhouse (Quality Listed) H'cap - 1400m
1st – Woorim 2nd – Meet George 3rd – Phelan Ready 4th – Adnocon

As M. Walker was to be overweight, A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of ABSENT FRIENDS. Jockey Walker was fined $100.

DALZAR (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.

LUCKY LUNA (J. Bowditch) was hampered soon after the start when tightened for room between WOORIM (D. Browne) and LISTEN SON (K. Banks), which was taken in by DRENALIN (B. Stewart).

PHELAN READY (B. Rawiller), CARRARA (J. Mott) and MYSTICAL GREY (E. Wilkinson) overraced in the early stages.

PHELAN READY, MEET GEORGE, ADNOCON and WOORIM raced wide throughout.

D. Brown, rider of WOORIM, was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

Stewards sought an explanation from K. Banks regarding the performance of LISTON SON. K. Banks explained that the gelding had to work hard in the early stages from its wide barrier to take up its customary forward position, and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, failed to respond to her riding. She further stated that, in her opinion, LISTON SON has come to the end of its preparation.


Race 8: Yalumba Wines CG&E Class 6 H'cap - 1300m
1st – Balavan 2nd – Golden Cash 3rd – General Purple 4th – Solzhenitsyn

As L. Rolls was to be overweight, apprentice J. Fry was substituted as the rider of ULTRA. In issuing a reprimand only, stewards took into account L. Rolls’ exemplary record regarding weight matters.

The start was delayed when ROVERT was fractious in the barriers. ROVERT was removed from the gates, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

TOPTWO (K. Wharton) and JOHNNIEONTHEROCKS (N. Thomas) were slow to begin.

GOLDEN CASH (J. Bowditch) shifted out at the start, hampering SOLZHENITSYN (P. Hammersley).

SMUGGLER’S INN (M. Palmer), which overraced in the early stages and raced greenly for a short distance approaching the 900m at the heels of GENERAL PURPLE (R. Wiggins).

Near the 500m, ULTRA (J. Fry) shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with MACHINATION (J. Taylor).

SINFUL WARRIOR (S. Seamer) and MACHINATION (J. Taylor) both raced wide for the majority of the race.

Jockey P. Hammersley reported that SOLZHENITSYN was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages despite his urgings, however finished the race off well, and suggested to connections the addition of blinkers for the gelding for its next race start.
