SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From SCTC meeting, 17.6.11 – Race 4
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the performance and handling of AIGLON. After a review of betting trends in the event, further evidence was taken from trainer P. Messara, and after considering this and also evidence taken on the day, stewards advised apprentice T. Huxham that, in their opinion, they could be satisfied with the explanations tendered as to the reasons for AIGLON being ridden in a rearward position as the horse reared as the start was effected. However stewards advised apprentice Huxham that he had erred in failing to pressure AIGLON and attempt to follow INCITEMENT (P. Hammersley), which had commenced to improve into the event between the 600m and 400m. Furthermore, the concerns that stewards addressed with apprentice Huxham in relation to his vigour over the final 400m was addressed by apprentice Huxham explaining that he has been attempting to model his riding style so as to ride with less whip use and in a more hands-and-heels style. Whilst stewards were not entirely satisfied with apprentice Huxham’s vigour, they were not of the view that in all the circumstances, this had a material effect on the gelding’s overall performance, and given apprentice Huxham’s relative lack of experience as an apprentice, took no further action.
As M. Gray, D. Missen and P. Keane were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
