On return to scale a protest was lodged by jockey D. Browne, rider of the 2nd placegetter, LEVERACTON against SINISTER PRINCE (T. Huxham) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol video, stewards found that leaving the 300m, SINISTER PRINCE shifted out, making slight contact with LEVERACTION, and then near the 200m LEVERACTION shifted in, making slight contact with SINISTER PRINCE, and again approaching the 100m, SINISTER PRINCE shifted out, making slight contact with LEVERACTION. In considering the degree of interference suffered by LEVERACTION, stewards could not be satisfied that the objection warranted a reversal of placings, and as such the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

CRAZY WAYS (R. Hancock) was slow to begin.

Whilst stewards took into account that LA MARIPOSA did have a tendency to overrace at that point of the race, D. Browne, rider of LEVERACTION, was nonetheless severely reprimanded and advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
MATILLA BAY (E. Wilkinson) overraced in the middle stages of the race and had to be steadied on a number of occasions between the 800m and the 500m. CRAZY WAYS, which was following, also had to be steadied.

Leaving the 300m, DESERT VISION was obliged to shift wider on the track to avoid the heels of ALLURE SPENDER, which shifted out. DESERT VISION then had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
