A post-race veterinary examination of WITH HEART revealed gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the first time that WITH HEART has bled, trainer G. Hutchesson was advised that the horse would now be barred for 3 months.
Race 5: Tony Finch Maiden H'cap - 1200m
1st – Stage Exit 2nd – My Mate Sully 3rd – Goodhorsehymn 4th – Dynamic Jack
Stewards afforded M. Gray, rider of the 4th placegetter, DYNAMIC JACK, the opportunity to look at the film of the race in the straight to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against the 3rd placegetter, GOODHORSEHYMN. Subsequently, M. Gray declined to lodge a protest.
Approaching the 1000m, ASLETLLE LADY (T. Harrison) raced in restricted room to the inside of STAGE EXIT (B. Looker) and commenced to overrace and made contact with the running rail on several occasions. Apprentice B. Looker, rider of STAGE EXIT, was advised in similar circumstances to exercise more care and afford more room to runners racing on his inside.

Approaching the finish line, DANSHAN (K. Pope) had to be steadied when GOODHORSEHYMN (E. Wilkinson) shifted out abruptly. E. Wilkinson, rider of GOODHORSEHYMN, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
COMPADRE (N. Thomas) and CHIEF BRIGHT STAR (G. Goold) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards questioned T. Harrison and trainer K. Munce regarding the riding tactics adopted on ALESTELLE LADY in setting a fast tempo in the early stages and establishing a large lead over the remainder of the field. Apprentice Harrison stated that her instructions were to ride the mare with cover, however after beginning well and receiving a bump near the 1000m, ALESTELLE LADY began to overrace badly and despite her best efforts, she was unable restrain and settle the mare. She added that she believed it was then in the horse’s best interests not to overly restrain the mare and to allow ALESTELLE LADY to roll along, which resulted in her establishing a sizable lead. Trainer K. Munce confirmed the instructions and after viewing the stewards race footage, agreed with apprentice Harrison’s explanation. Stewards noted the comments.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ZELDA’S LAD T. Bell stated that his instructions were to ride the horse back in the field and allow it to finish the race off, which it has not been doing in previous starts. He added that the gelding travelled well in running, however when placed under pressure on straightening, failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of ZELDA’S LAD revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for ZELDA’S LAD prior to its next race start.
Stewards interviewed trainer B. Wakefield regarding the seemingly improved performance of STAGE EXIT. Mr Wakefield stated that at the gelding’s first run back from a spell at Doomben on 14 December 2011, the horse was caught wide towards the rear of the field and due to the lack of speed of the race was unable to finish the race off. He added that he was not entirely disappointed with the performance of STAGE EXIT given the circumstances of the race. Mr Wakefield added that he had given the gelding a jump-out following this race and the horse performed well and he was confident of a forward showing today. The explanation was noted.
Race 6: Icount Class 2 H'cap – 1200m

When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance of SO FELINE, jockey S. Galloway stated that after enjoying a good run throughout the race, the filly only finished the race off fairly and, in his opinion, was feeling the effects of today’s firm track conditions. He added that filly’s best performances have been on rain-affected tracks. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 7: Finchcorp Benchmark 85 H'cap – 1200m

TIGHTROPE (A. Pattillo) was held up and unable to gain clear running from a point near the 300m until leaving the 200m.
Approaching the 200m, EXPLORE THE WORLD shifted out slightly, resulting in BEDLUM (J. Taylor) shifting out from behind that runner’s heels and making contact with I’LL RULE, which resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced for several strides.
EXPLORE THE WORLD raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards sought an explanation from J. Byrne regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of IMPERIAL COMMAND. He stated that shortly after the start he elected to position his mount behind the speed and not push forward to the lead, and he felt IMPERIAL COMMAND travelled well in this position. J. Byrne added however that when placed under pressure in the straight the gelding finished the race off only fairly and he was disappointed with its effort. He further added that IMPERIAL COMMAND may have not appreciated today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of IMPERIAL COMMAND failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
