From SCTC, 17.2.12 – Race 3
Trainer R. Bradshaw reported that RED CENTURION had pulled up well after its disappointing performance, adding that, in his opinion, the horse may perform better when ridden in a more rearward position as opposed to the midfield position in which it settled in this event.
J. Stanley, rider of SO DOMINANT, was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
Race 1: Sky Racing Maiden Plate - 1400m
1st – Zaroxie 2nd – Ma Royal Hiney 3rd – Unda The Influence 4th – Chimney Rock
BELLADONNA DELAGO (C. Kearney) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000m, BELLADONNA DELAGO (C. Kearney) had to be checked when overracing to the inside of ZAROXIE (D. McWhinney), which shifted in when being restrained to avoid the heels of SIDESHOW SUMMER (A. Spinks). BELLADONNA DELAGO then continued to overrace until approaching the 500m.
Passing the 700m, UNDA THE INFLUENCE (E. Wilkinson) shifted out to improve and raced wide from that point onwards.
Jockey Galloway was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of MORATORIO. He stated that when pressured from approaching the 500m the gelding did not sprint as anticipated and, in his opinion, MORATORIO is at the of its preparation where it would be more suited to races of 1600m and further as the gelding was very one-paced in the run to the line.
When questioned regarding the below-market expectation performance of CHIMNEY ROCK, G. Colless stated he had been instructed to position the horse where it was comfortable and found himself settling outside the lead after travelling a short distance. Despite this not being the horse’s normal racing pattern, the gelding travelled well until the 300m and, in his opinion, was disappointing from that point onwards. G. Colless added that in hindsight the decision to settle outside the lead may not have been beneficial to the overall performance of CHIMNEY ROCK.
A post-race veterinary examination of ZAROXIE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 2: RCQ Maiden H'cap - 1000m
1st – Silent Ninja 2nd – Raven Raider 3rd – Karma Force 4th – Floral Garden

CHARLIE’S CHOICE (J. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.
Approaching the 900m, MASTER KWILA, after beginning awkwardly, was forced to restrain to avoid the heels of KARMA FORCE (A. Pattillo), which shifted in. A. Pattillo, rider of KARMA FORCE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
CHARLIE’S CHOICE overraced on to heels near the 700m and had to be steadied.
MASTER KWILA (T. Harrison), which raced wide throughout, hung out and raced ungenerously for the majority of the event. Trainer G. Hardy will be advised that a warning will be placed on MASTER KWILA regarding its racing manners.
KARMA FORCE (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of EURASIAN GIRL, which compounded badly over the concluding stages, revealed the horse had been galloped on the near hind heel.
A post-race veterinary examination of SILENT NINJA revealed the horse had sustained minor lacerations to the near hind leg.
Race 3: Hot 91.1 Class 2 H'cap – 2200m
1st – Attica 2nd – Kesthin 3rd – Retracted 4th – Along Came Dolly
Leaving the 1300m, MERCHANT GIRL (M. Hellyer) shifted wider on the track to improve and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
Approaching the 500m, the tiring KWILA SUNRISE (P. Hammersley) was tightened for room between ATTICA (J. Byrne) and KESTHIN (J. Taylor), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. BLACK BANNER (A. Spinks), which was following, had to be steadied and was held up for a short distance until leaving the 450m.
Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce for the disappointing performance of TRIUMPHANT ONE. Jockey Munce stated that TRIUMPHANT ONE hung in throughout the event, and commenced to hang badly from the from the 600m, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race, and, in his opinion, TRIUMPHANT ONE did not feel comfortable in its action and did not finish the race off well. Trainer L. Treloar confirmed his disappointment in the performance, adding that, in his opinion, the horse may have jarred up on the slightly firmer surface. He also undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which becomes apparent that may have had a bearing on today's performance. A post-race veterinary examination of TRIUMPHANT ONE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of STRATEGICAL PLAN revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for STRATEGICAL PLAN prior to its next race start.
Following this race, J. Byrne was examined by the doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 4: Contour Consulting Engineers QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap - 1400m
1st – For Mia 2nd – Heart Of Texas 3rd – Lady Racer 4th – Town Dazzler
Trainer T. Bell, rider of LADY RACER, was fined $100 for being late leaving the jockeys room for his engagement.
LADY RACER (T. Bell), which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start by FOR MIA (C. Munce), which shifted in.
When the pace slackened near the 1000m, LADY RACER (T. Bell) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FARMERWANTSAWIFE (N. Thomas). DOREBOY (D. Whitmore) and GOODHORSEHYMN (E. Wilkinson), which were following, were both obliged to steady from heels at that point. N. Thomas, rider of FARMERWANTSAWIFE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 500m, MORE DUST (S. Galloway) had to be steadied when tightened for room between BOLSTER (K. Wharton) and DOREBOY (D. Whitmore), which laid in whilst tiring. GOODHORSEHYMN, which was following, was steadied as a result.
LADY RACER (T. Bell) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
HEART OF TEXAS (J. Taylor) raced wide throughout.

1st – Wanna Be Someone 2nd – Degree Of Honour 3rd – Egyptian Tomb 4th – Better Later
NIGHT WANDERER (G. Colless) and DEPASSE (R. Hurdle) were both slow to begin.
PORTUGUESE (J. Stanley) jumped away awkwardly.
MR MOTO (D. Browne) and PORTUGUESE (J. Stanley) after both horses were caught wide in the early stages, were permitted to stride forward to lead at a point approaching the 1000m.
BETTER LATER (T. Bell) overraced at the heels of WANNA BE SOMEONE (P. Hammersley) during the early stages.
Near the 700m, STAR ECLIPSE (M. Gray) improved onto the heels of EGYPTIAN TOMB (A. Pattillo) and had to be checked. As a consequence, DEPASSE (R. Hurdle), which was following, shifted out, forcing SAMANTHA’S OPINION (T. Harrison) wider on the track. SAMANTHA’S OPINION raced wide from that point onwards. As a result of this incident, M. Gray, rider of STAR ECLIPSE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
EGYPTIAN TOMB was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until approaching the 200m.
G. Colless, rider of the 5th placegetter, NIGHT WANDERER, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in.
Stewards afforded D. Browne the opportunity to comment on the below-market expectation performance of MR MOTO. D. Browne stated that it had not been his intention to ride the horse in a forward position, however as he was positioned wide during the early stages and the pace of the race was only steady, he allowed his mount to stride forward. He added that in hindsight this may have had a detrimental effect on the overall performance of MR MOTO and that he believed it would be the stable’s intention to ride the horse in a more rearward position in future.
Race 6: XXXX Class 1 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Stage Exit 2nd – Angusroy 3rd – Laud Bentley 4th – Andthebandplayedon

HONOURDO (I. Coombes) was slow to begin.
CAVALRYMAN (G. Colless) was held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 350m. As a result of this, CAVALRYMAN shifted out around the heels of VACALLO (D. Browne) in order to secure clear running and in doing so tightened the running of LAUD BENTLEY (P. Hammersley), which was racing to the inside of OSCARMANIA (K. Wharton). This caused P. Hammersley to take hold of LAUD BENTLEY and shift out, hampering ANGUSROY (S. Galloway), which had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track. G. Colless, rider of CAVALRYMAN, was reprimanded for this incident.
Approaching the 100m, TRUE RED (E. Wilkinson), which was inclined to hang in from approaching the 400m placing its rider at a disadvantage, and CAVALRYMAN (G. Colless), were both tightened for room between MAGPIE JACK (R. Hurdle) and OSCARMANIA, which shifted in under pressure. K. Wharton, rider of OSCARMANIA, was reprimanded for this incident.
G Colless, rider of CAVALRYMAN, reported that the gelding may not have appreciated the firmer racing surface.
VACALLO (D. Browne) and OSCARMANIA raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Yalumba Wines Class 3 Plate - 1400m

MIK YELROW (T. Harrison) overraced during the middle stages.
KNOX (D. Browne) was held up from rounding the home turn until the final 50m. Stewards intend interviewing D. Browne regarding his riding over the final 50m when KNOW had obtained clear running.
WESTERN SHADOW and KOLO (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned trainer R. Bradshaw regarding the seemingly improved performance of DELAGO PILLI. Mr Bradshaw stated that he has only had the horse for one start prior to today’s race and this was over 1000m and, in his opinion, the gelding was not suited to that distance in that it was unable to muster sufficient early speed to be competitive. He added that in today’s 1200-metre race the horse was able to obtain a competitive position during the early stages and was not surprised with today’s forward showing.
K. Wharton, rider of DELAGO PILLI, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR118A in that he added spurs after having weighed out. K. Wharton was fined $100.
