Race 1: Sky Racing Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate - 1400m
1st – Tuskegee Hawk 2nd – Ma royal Hiney 3rd – Heart Of Texas 4th - Alextheastronomer

Trainer G. Pollock was reprimanded for failing to submit a completed stable return for DAWN’S SNIP.

SHOOT FER LOVE (G. Killen) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 400m, TUSKEGEE HAWK (L. Cassidy) shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with HEART OF TEXAS (J. Taylor), forcing that horse wider on the track.

HIGHLY RATED commenced to yield ground rounding the home turn and broke down in the near knee shortly after leaving the 400m. HIGHLY RATED was subsequently transported to a veterinary hospital for assessment, where the horse was euthanased on humane grounds.

Stewards afforded E. Wilkinson, rider of UNDA THE INFLUENCE, the opportunity to comment on the performance of UNDA THE INFLUENCE. Jockey Wilkinson stated that after beginning from a wide alley he was forced to take hold to take up a position at the tail of the field in order to obtain a position cover closer to the rail. He was of the opinion that this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance of the horse as he was required to make up too much ground in the latter stages of the race. E. Wilkinson added that rounding the home turn he had difficulty improving into clear running as a result of HIGHLY RATED compounding badly at that point. He also added that In his opinion the horse would be more suited to races over 1600m.

Apprentice T. Harrison was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of ALEXTHEASTRONOMER. She stated that from an awkward alley the mare began well and she was forced to take hold to ride the horse in its normal racing pattern, which is in the second half of the field. She added that her mount resented this and overraced during the early stages. T. Harrison further added that approaching the 600m she attempted to improve between runners and was forced to steady from heels when disappointed for a run. Stewards also questioned her regarding the amount of vigour shown approaching the 400m where it appeared she had opportunity to improve. T. Harrison stated that she was reluctant to pressure ALEXTHEASTRONOMER too early in the event as the horse at this stage was not afforded clear running and she did not wish to stop the horse’s momentum at any stage should she be unable to obtain clear running. Apprentice Harrison added that, in the circumstances, she was pleased with the overall performance.

Race 2: Reed Property Group CG&E Maiden Plate - 1400m
1st – Toolbag 2nd – Le Bonx Chonx 3rd – Brave Palatinsk 4th – Sideshow Summer

THE FIGHTING IRISH (L. Finlay) was slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn, MORATORIO (R. McMahon) improved onto the heels of the tiring BENJI BULLET (K. Pope) and had to be checked. LUCK’S ON OUR SIDE (J. Stanley), which was following, was also forced to check as a consequence.

DE LEONE (R. Wiggins) had difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance leaving the 400m.

SIDESHOW SUMMER (A. Spinks) and OCTAVAR (T. Harrison) raced wide throughout.

Trainer M. Mair reported that, in his opinion, the poor performance of BENJI BULLET could be attributed to the horse being more suited to racing on the cushion track. He added that in light of today’s performance the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.

Stewards questioned T. Bell regarding the tactics adopted on TOOLBAG, in particular his reasons for positioning the horse towards the tail of the field . He added that from the wide alley the intention was to race in a more forward position, however after travelling a short distance he was of the view that he was not going to be able to secure a position closer to the fence and elected to take hold in order to do so.

Jockey B. Stewart was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on LE BONX CHONX, in particular his reasons for taking up a position in the second half of the field, which was in contrast to the gelding’s recent racing pattern. He stated that after beginning well and being ridden forward in the early stages it became apparent he would be unable to secure a position outside the leader and he elected to take hold to take up a position closer to the fence with cover. The explanation was noted.

Race 3: RCQ QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate - 1600m
1st – Lady Racer 2nd – Passo Corto 3rd – Acadane 4th – Wishmore

PASSO CORTO (E. Wilkinson), which was fractious in the barriers, stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer P. Messara was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier certificate for PASSO CORTO prior to its next race start.

OUTBACK FORTUNE (T. Harrison), BRILLIANT FACETS (A. Pattillo) and BRILLIANT DRAGON (J. Byrne) were all tightened for room between LADY RACER (T. Bell) and CRAIGLEA CALIPSO (R. Mason), which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident, BRILLIANT DRAGON and BRILLIANT FACETS lost ground.

After leaving the 400m, CRAIGLEA CALIPSO commenced to shift out under pressure, hampering LADY RACER and forcing that horse wider on the track. In light of this incident, and also the gelding’s manners shortly after the start, trainer T. Miller was advised a warning would be placed on CRAIGLEA CALIPSO regarding its racing manners.

G. Killen, rider of YOUR MOVE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 300m he allowed his mount to shift inwards, which resulted in ACADANE (S. Drake) being tightened for room and checked when racing between YOUR MOVE and WISHMORE (R. McMahon). G. Killen was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 March and to expire at midnight, 16 March.

NOT JUST FOR SHO (R. Wiggins) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of BRILLIANT DRAGON, J. Byrne stated that the gelding raced flat today and gave him the indication it was in need of a spell. Trainer R. Heathcote confirmed that BRILLIANT DRAGON would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of BRILLIANT DRAGON failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on ACADANE in tailing the field which was in contrast to its most recent starts, jockey Drake stated it was her intention to race in a closer position today, however from the wide barrier she was forced to eased ACADANE in the early stages to take up a position with cover. She added that despite being ridden at the tail of the field today she believed it would be the stable’s intention to continue to ride the horse in a forward position in future where barrier draws permit.

A post-race veterinary examination of BRILLIANT FACETS revealed the filly to be suffering from acute heat stress. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for BRILLIANT FACETS prior to its next race start.

A post-race veterinary examination of PASSO CORTO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

NOT JUST FOR SHO lost its near hind plate in running.

Stewards afforded jockey J. Byrne the opportunity to comment on the performance of DIAMOND HEIST, which weakened badly over the concluding stages. J. Byrne stated that despite missing the start as a result of being fractious in the barriers he was able to take up a favourable position just behind the speed, however the gelding failed to respond when pressured approaching the 400m and weakened badly.
