Race 1: CONTOUR CONSULTING ENGINEERS MAIDEN H’CAP - 1600m
1st – St Sully 2nd – Telesius 3rd – Semison 4th – Excalibre
A. Pattillo was severely reprimanded for failing to arrive on course on time to fulfil his engagement on GLASS HALF FULL. D. Gill was substituted as the rider of that mare.
Subject to any further submissions from connections, trainer R. Cameron was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Hellyer as the rider of EXCALIBRE by the prescribed time.
Trainer R. Bradshaw was issued with a reprimand for failing to produce the Documents of Description for MODERN EXPRESS and MORINGA’S SUNDANCE.
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer M. Barnham for the late declaration of rider for GLASS HALF FULL and SIR VAN TEES (Race 7).
Trainer M. Barnham was fined $100 under LR. 30 for failing to present GLASS HALF FULL on course by the required time.
BUTCH'S MATE (R. Hurdle) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with EXCALIBRE (M. Hellyer).
PEDIMENT (A. Spinks) overraced during the early stages.
GRACE WITH FIRE (J. Kropp) shifted out to improve near the 800m and raced wide from that point onwards.
TELESIUS (E. Wilkinson) laid in under pressure from the 400m causing its rider to stop riding on a number of occasions in the straight and as a result the horse went to the line without being fully tested.
EXCALIBRE laid in under pressure from the 200m.
A post-race veterinary examination of POWERSMEUP (R. Wiggins) revealed the colt to be showing slight signs of respiratory distress. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that she would be required to have an endoscopic examination performed on the colt and it would also be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next start.
A post-race veterinary examination of SEMISON revealed the gelding to have lacerations on the inside of the near fore heel.
Race 2: SKY RACING MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m
1st – Not A Dull Moment 2nd – Farmerwantsawife 3rd – Throbbing 4th – Full Of Surprises
DAWN BOY (D. Browne) stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer T. Joseph was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for DAWN BOY prior to its next start.
FULL OF SURPRISES (G. Killen) was slow to begin.
ROCKIN PARTY (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin and a short distance later shifted in and had to be restrained from the heels of SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH (D. Gill).
Leaving the 900m NOT A DULL MOMENT (A. Pattillo) commenced to overrace at the heels of MOTHER MOO (M. Hellyer) and continued to do so until approaching the 800m where it shifted out tightening the running of THROBBING (M. Gray) which was obliged to check from the heels of NEPETA CATARIA (L. Finlay), which was being restrained in order to obtain cover.
SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH, GET SQUARED ENSUM (T. Harrison) and ROCKIN PARTY all raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 300m BRIDIES BOY (P. Hammersley) and SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH were both hampered and forced wider on the track when NEPETA CATARIA shifted out and away from KATTER (K. Pope), which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Stewards afforded K. Pope the opportunity to comment on the performance of KATTER. Jockey Pope stated that after travelling in a comfortable position midfield he was of the opinion that the pace of the race during the early stages had only been steady so he was forced to pressure the horse earlier than he would have liked and the gelding responded well when leaving the 600m. He added that over the concluding stages KATTER did not quicken as anticipated, however he was not disappointed with the overall performance.
Stewards questioned trainer M. Mair regarding the seemingly improved performance of NOT A DULL MOMENT. Mr Mair stated that he was not surprised with today’s forward showing as he was of the opinion that the horse’s most recent start was most disappointing as in his opinion the gelding was not suited to the step up in distance to 1400m. Stewards noted the explanation.
A post-race veterinary examination of NOT A DULL MOMENT revealed a superficial laceration to the gelding’s near hind leg consistent with being galloped on.
P. Hammersley was afforded the opportunity to comment on the below market expectation performance of BRIDIES BOY. Jockey Hammersley stated that after travelling well throughout and obtaining clear running shortly after straightening, the gelding was inconvenienced approaching the 300m and did not respond to his riding from that point onwards and proved very disappointing in the run to the line. A post-race veterinary examination of BRIDIES BOY revealed no significant findings.
ROCKIN PARTY lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 3: RCQ QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Regillus 2nd – Marsa 3rd – Itchintowin 4th – Elmantosh
ITCHINTOWIN (P. Hammersley) underwent a veterinary examination prior to the start after receiving a kick from another runner behind the barriers and was passed to take its place in the field.
The start of this race was delayed when COMMANDS THE TRUTH (R. Wiggins) proved difficult to load.
GO THIAGO GO (J. Kropp) was slow to begin.
ELMANTOSH (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of RUBIES DESTINY (L. Cassidy) and lost ground.
WHO WILL (C. Maund) and MARSA (D. Browne) made contact after both runners jumped away awkwardly.
GO THE SHOW (E. Wilkinson) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 900m CRASHING (T. Harrison) was steadied to avoid the heels of RUBIES DESTINY which shifted in.
RUBIES DESTINY, GO THE SHOW and ITCHINTOWIN (P. Hammersley) all raced wide throughout.
ELMANTOSH laid in under pressure from the 400m onwards, causing its rider to be unable to fully test the gelding.
E. Wilkinson reported that GO THE SHOW raced greenly throughout and had a tendency to lay out under pressure in the home straight. He also added that in his opinion the gelding would be more suited to races over a longer distance.
COMMANDS THE TRUTH (R. Wiggins) returned to scale with blood in the nearside nostril. Following a post-race veterinary examination of the horse, stewards were satisfied that this was as a result of external trauma in that prior to the event the filly became fractious behind the barriers and made heavy contact with the outside fence. A further post-race veterinary examination confirmed that the presence of the blood had been as a result of external trauma.
A post-race veterinary examination of CRASHING, which finished tailed off, revealed the colt to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer B. Hill was advised that he would be required to have an endoscopic examination performed on the colt and it would also be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next start. CRASHING lost its off fore plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination of AVERIL’S DANCER (M. Hellyer), which finished tailed off, revealed the filly to be lame off hind leg. Trainer T. Miller was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the horse’s next start.
ITCHINTOWIN lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 4: REED PROPERTY GROUP CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1000m
1st – La Mariposa 2nd – Silent Ninja 3rd – Morgan Miss 4th – Billy Be Good
CONCRETE LADY (P. Hammersley) became fractious in the barriers and got its near hind leg caught between the back gates. Following a veterinary inspection, the filly was deemed not suitable to race and was declared a late scratching at 1.46 p.m. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CONCRETE LADY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
13 cents in the dollar for the Win #8 – LA MARIPOSA
13 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8 – LA MARIPOSA
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1 – SILENT NINJA
19 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7 – MORGAN MISS
PREVAILABLE (K. Wharton) raced wide throughout.
LA MARIPOSA (M. Vance) was momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
BILLY BE GOOD (A. Spinks) had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and during the early stages of the home straight. A short distance later BILLY BE GOOD then shifted out forcing SERAPHS FANTASY (E. Wilkinson) wider on the track.
Race 5: YALUMBA WINES CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Heir Express 2nd – Urban Menace 3rd – Pain And Gain 4th – Winds Me Up
Apprentice S. Payne was reprimanded for failing to produce a letter of authority.
Apprentice S. Payne was reprimanded for failing to claim his full allowance on URBAN MENACE.
Stewards acceded to a request from trainer R. Heathcote to run BARELY A FIB with a tongue tie as part of its gear, notwithstanding that a gear change had been effected to remove the tongue tie from the gelding’s gear.
MISHANI ARCHER (B. Derbyshire) and DON’S SURPRISE (E. Wilkinson) were both slow to begin.
URBAN MENACE (S. Payne) and MADE IN AMERICA (Michael Palmer) raced wide throughout.
GALACTIC SPIRIT (A. Pattillo) had difficulty obtaining clear running during the early stages of the home straight.
MISHANI ARCHER shifted out rounding the home turn and continued to shift in the home straight under pressure until leaving the 300m.
A post-race veterinary examination of JADE'S DILEMMA (R. Wiggins), which finished tailed off last, revealed no significant findings. Stewards intend interviewing trainer R. Litton regarding the performance.
Stewards afforded B. Stewart the opportunity to comment on the performance of BARELY A FIB. Jockey Stewart stated that the horse travelled comfortably until the home turn and when asked for an effort failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing in the run to the line. Trainer R. Heathcote confirmed his disappointment in the performance and added that it would be his intention to instruct riders in the future that in his opinion the horse is best suited when leading and able to dictate the pace of the race.
Race 6: XXXX CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Luck’s On Our Side 2nd – La Flash 3rd – Zaroxie 4th – Wild Rumours
A. Spinks was fined $100 for failing to fulfil his engagement on OLIGARCH due to also being engaged on ELITE SHERILEA.
Trainer R. Heathcote advised that it would be the intention to have PRESIDENTIAL (L. Cassidy) ridden in a more forward position today if circumstances permit. Jockey L. Cassidy stated that after riding vigorously during the early stages it was apparent that he was not going to be able to secure a position closer to the fence and he elected to steady the horse after passing the 1200m in an attempt to secure cover, however despite his efforts the gelding raced wide throughout and he was again forced to pressure PRESIDENTIAL near the 600m and in his opinion the gelding would be more suited to races over longer distances. Trainer R. Heathcote agreed with jockey Cassidy’s assessment and advised stewards of his intention to step the horse up over more ground.
The start of this race was delayed when ELITE SHERILEA (A. Spinks) was inspected by the Club veterinarian at the request of the rider and passed to take its place in the field.
OCTDEHERE (K. Pope) and MAKYEAH (K. Wharton) were slow to begin.
ZAROXIE (M. Hellyer) jumped away awkwardly.
JACOBUS (K. Yoshida) raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 600m DEVIL’S DASH (T. Harrison) was held up at the heels of the tiring HAYSHAR (M. O'Brien) and had to be steadied before shifting wider on the track near the 500m.
Leaving the 100m the tiring NO IDENTITY (G. Colless) had to be steadied and shift in to avoid the heels of WILD RUMOURS (M. Vance) which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice M. Vance was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount.
Stewards questioned G. Colless regarding the below market expectation performance of NO IDENTITY. Jockey Colless stated that after travelling well throughout the event the gelding failed to respond when rounding the home turn and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Trainer A. Bailey confirmed his disappointment with the performance and advised that he will discuss the horse’s racing future with connections.
A post-race veterinary examination of HAYSHAR, which finished tailed off, revealed no significant findings.
Race 7: HOT 91.1 CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Red Centurion 2nd – Will Impress 3rd – Blaze To Fortune 4th – Be Unique
The start of this race was delayed when PHOEB'S FLYER (E. Wilkinson) was inspected by the Club veterinarian at the request of the rider and was then passed to take its place in the field.
The start of this race was further delayed when DUBAI PROSPECT (B. Stewart) had to be re-shod at the barriers.
PORT GALLERY (D. Browne) and SIR VAN TEES (A. Pattillo) were both tightened for room at the start between GUV’S LAD (R. Hurdle) and BE UNIQUE (S. Drake), which shifted out.
ROCK RULES (D. Griffin) overraced during the early stages.
PHOEB'S FLYER overraced during the early stages with its head in the air.
Approaching the 100m B. Stewart (DUBAI PROSPECT) was obliged to stop riding and alter course when disappointed for a run between ROCK RULES and BE UNIQUE which shifted in under pressure. DUBAI PROSPECT was again inconvenienced over the concluding stages when BE UNIQUE shifted out under pressure. S. Drake (BE UNIQUE) was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount.
A post-race veterinary examination of PHOEB'S FLYER revealed the mare to be sore in the near foreleg. Trainer J. Aitkenhead was advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the mare’s next start.
Stewards questioned jockey B. Stewart and trainer D. Kelly regarding the tactics adopted on DUBAI PROSPECT, which settled in the second half of the field in today’s event, which is in contrast to the mare’s most recent pattern of racing. Jockey Stewart stated that he had been instructed to ride DUBAI PROSPECT in a forward position, however during the early stages he formed the view that he would not have sufficient speed to cross runners to his inside and elected to take hold in an attempt to secure a position closer to the fence. He added that this resulted in the horse being positioned further back than he would have liked. Trainer D. Kelly confirmed the instructions and advised stewards that it would continue to be his intention to have DUBAI PROSPECT ridden in a forward position. Stewards accepted the explanation.
Stewards intend to interview G. Cooksley (WILL IMPRESS) regarding his whip use.
K. Wharton (RED CENTURION) was reminded of his obligations to ensure that he does not use his whip in a manner that could be deemed excessive.
Race 8: BOLACK PUBLICATIONS CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Vital Organ 2nd – Threatened Danger 3rd – High Chancellor 4th – Tuskegee Hawk
KISTAMON (C. Priest), which kicked out in the barriers, was inspected by the Club veterinarian and passed to take its place in the field.
BANDIDAS (G. Colless) was slow to begin and lost significant ground. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding. Jockey Colless reported that after being slow to begin he was forced to race at the tail of the field, however he was able to improve into the race well trailing the eventual winner VITAL ORGAN (K. Wharton) until approaching the 300m when the gelding commenced to lay in under pressure and proved very disappointing over the final 200m. Trainer A. Bailey’s representative, Mr Tyrrell, confirmed the stable’s disappointment in the performance, but could offer no explanation and gave an undertaking to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days which may explain the performance.
Approaching the 1400m HARISH (P. Hammersley) was tightened for room and forced to steady between THREATENED DANGER (E. Wilkinson) and BLOOMIN TIPSY (K. Gates), which shifted in. Apprentice Gates was severely reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in at that point.
Rounding the home turn STOP CRYING (D. Griffin) was tightened for room and had to be steadied between TUSKEGEE HAWK (L. Cassidy) and SOUL CRUSADE (R. Wiggins), which shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear running. R. Wiggins was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Leaving the 400m SOUL CRUSADE, when attempting to secure clear running between HARISH and TUSKEGEE HAWK, was reluctant to shift out and laid in across the heels of HARISH and had to be steadied. SOUL CRUSADE was then held up for clear running until approaching the 200m.
Near the 100m the tiring HARISH had to be restrained to avoid the heels of THREATENED DANGER when tightened for room between that horse, which shifted out, and TUSKEGEE HAWK, which shifted in and away from VITAL ORGAN (K. Wharton), which shifted in under pressure. As a result of this, R. Wiggins (SOUL CRUSADE) was obliged to stop riding for a short distance and shifted in making contact with CRAB POT (A. Spinks). As a result of the incident, K. Wharton was advised to exercise more care and E. Wilkinson (THREATENED DANGER) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out under pressure.
A post-race veterinary examination of WAITING ROOM (M. Vance) revealed the mare to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for WAITING ROOM prior to its next start.
Race 9: WWW.SCTC.COM.AU CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Enemyatthegate 2nd – Cavalryman 3rd – Fire And Flood 4th – Laughing Crusader
VOCIFEROUS (G. Cooksley) was slow to begin.
DEEP FAITH (S. Drake) and ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON (B. Stewart) raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 800m SHADOW PRINCESS (A. Pattillo), which had commenced to overrace from a point approaching the 900m, had to be restrained when momentarily tightened for room by ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON which shifted in. A short distance later SHADOW PRINCESS shifted in when continuing to overrace, resulting in FIRE AND FLOOD (L. Cassidy) having to be steadied.
FIRE AND FLOOD was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until approaching the 300m.
Near the 300m SHADOW PRINCESS shifted out to secure clear running and in doing so forced both ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON and VOCIFEROUS wider on the track.
Jockey L. Cassidy reported to stewards that from the wide alley he was forced to position FIRE AND FLOOD further back in the field than he would have liked and that given the difficulty the gelding had in obtaining clear running during the early stages of the home straight, he was satisfied with the horse’s overall performance.
Jockey A. Pattillo was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of SHADOW PRINCESS. Jockey Pattillo stated that after being ridden forward in the early stages the filly commenced to overrace and as a result of this he was obliged to position the horse further back in the field than anticipated and given the circumstances he was pleased with the filly’s overall performance and added that SHADOW PRINCESS would derive benefit from today’s race.
