Trainer S. Kurz advised that FLYING FRANK (M. Palmer) will be ridden further back in the field today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

BANK JOB (M. Gray) and ROCKIN PARTY (D. McWhinney) overraced in the early stages.

BULLRAMA (P. Hammersley) raced wide throughout.

Near the 1000m BE MY LOVE (M. McKenzie) commenced to overrace and when being steadied from the heels of PARTY TRICKS (T. Harrison) shifted in towards the running rail and became unbalanced.

When asked to explain the performance of VEILED MORN, rider R. McMahon stated that the mare began awkwardly and lost ground at the start and following this travelled well until placed under pressure upon straightening where it did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. He added that VEILED MORN was stepping up significantly in distance today and may not have been suited to the slow pace in the middle stages when the race developed into a sprint home. A post-race veterinary examination of VEILED MORN revealed no significant findings.

The veterinary surgeon reported that PARTY TRICKS bled from one nostril. Trainer B. Hill was advised that under the provisions of AR. 53A PARTY TRICKS must gallop satisfactorily over at least 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to racing again.

M. Gray, the rider of 5th placegetter BANK JOB, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137(b) of failing to ride that gelding out to the end of the race and was fined $500. In determining penalty, stewards were of the opinion that jockey Gray’s actions cost his mount 4th place.

Race 2: JOHN K. HENNESSY QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1000m
1st – Tom’s Luck 2nd – Lucky Leish 3rd – Stick Fighter 4th – Super Sorted

The start of this race was delayed when JAYS DEBUT (B. Richardson) was fractious in the barrier and reared. JAYS DEBUT was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. STICK FIGHTER (P. Hammersley) and MISS HELTER (L. Rolls), which were in adjoining stalls, were also examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. Trainer A. Williamson was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for JAYS DEBUT.

JAYS DEBUT was slow to begin.

LUCKY LEISH (A. Taylor) raced greenly throughout.

Rounding the home turn and in the home straight until after passing the 300m STICK FIGHTER was unable to secure clear running.

L. Rolls reported that MISS HELTER did not travel well at any stage during the race and weakened when placed under pressure from the 400m and in his opinion was disappointing.

Race 3: ON THE MOVE WITH TERRY LUCAS MAIDEN H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Sir Knox 2nd – Get On 3rd – Bolts’nholts 4th – Chief Bright Star

Near the 800m DOCTOR BONES (M. McKenzie) improved to the inside of NORSTROEM where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be steadied to avoid that runner’s heels.

JUST DANDY (G. Goold) and NUMZAAN (K. Matheson) raced wide throughout.

Again after passing the 600m DOCTOR BONES was restrained from the heels of NORSTROEM.

After passing the 400m DOCTOR BONES, when placed under pressure, shifted in towards the running rail, became unbalanced and lost ground.

Soon after the start ONE TREE (M. Hellyer), which was inclined to overrace and shift in, was steadied from the heels of HARDCORE PLAY (E. Wilkinson), which shifted out.

ONE TREE overraced in the early and middle stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from P. Hammersley regarding the performance of THREEBYTWO. P. Hammersley explained that the gelding travelled comfortably and did quicken under his riding rounding the home turn, but peaked on its run after passing the 400m and only worked to the line fairly. P. Hammersley added that in his opinion THREEBYTWO will be better suited by a further distance than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination of THREEBYTWO revealed no significant findings.

When asked to explain the performance of HARDCORE PLAY, rider E. Wilkinson stated that the gelding was fractious in the barriers and a little slow to begin, but was then able to settle in a favourable position, however did not sprint as he expected when placed under pressure in the home straight and was disappointing. He added that HARDCORE PLAY may not have been suited by the significant rise in weight from its most recent start.

Race 5: MARTIN JONKERS MOTORS CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Caught Unaware 2nd – The Calibrator 3rd – High Chancellor 4th – The Man Said

MATILLA BAY (J. Stanley) was slow to begin.

Passing the 800m SPECIAL DRAGON (K. Pope) had to be steadied when tightened for room between THE CALIBRATOR (T. Bell) and THE MAN SAID (M. Vance), which shifted in slightly.

THE MAN SAID hung in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride.

Apprentice A. Hearn, the rider of MOUNTAIN OF GOLD, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 350m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of MATILLA BAY, resulting in MATILLA BAY having to be checked away from the heels of MOUNTAIN OF GOLD. Apprentice A. Hearn’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 15 September, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 28 September 2012.

Approaching the 100m WINDS ME UP (K. Wharton) was inconvenienced when tightened for room between SPECIAL DRAGON and MOUNTAIN OF GOLD (A. Hearn), which shifted in slightly.

When questioned, K. Wharton was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of WINDS ME UP, however he was of the opinion that WINDS ME UP may be better suited over further distance than that of today’s race.

Race 6: ROTARY 10TH ANNIVERSARY RACE DAY CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Azzimato 2nd – Gypsy Heart 3rd – King’s Romance 4th – Home To The Bride

LA FLASH (J. Johnson) raced wide throughout.

When asked to explain the poor performance of RAINS, apprentice K. Matheson stated that the horse was unable to muster any early speed and settled at the rear of the field and he had to ride aggressively approaching and passing the 1000m in an attempt to make ground. Apprentice Matheson added that RAINS commenced to travel from the 800m but when the field sprinted again after passing the 600m, RAINS again failed to respond to his pressure and compounded in the home straight. Trainer K. Doughty was of the opinion that RAINS is better suited when able to settle in a handy position with cover but was at a loss to explain today’s disappointing performance and undertook to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days that may explain today’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination of RAINS revealed no significant findings.

Shortly after the start DINNA SIGN (M. Cahill) and MAY were hampered when tightened for room between STARLISTIC (R. Hurdle) and AHSOKA TANO (K. Matheson), which shifted in.

ANGELONMYSHOULDER (D. Sparks) raced wide throughout.

LEVERACTION overraced in the early and middle stages and for some distance approaching and passing the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of STARLISTIC.

LEVERACTION was held up when unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of TEIFI VALLEY, T. Bell explained that the gelding did not quicken under his riding shortly after straightening and was disappointing. He added that TEIFI VALLEY may take benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had a poor post-race recovery. Stewards will interview trainer R. Lipp regarding the horse’s disappointing performance and post-race recovery.

Race 8: SPRINGERS SOLAR CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Richmond Grove 2nd – King Eagle 3rd – Tradies Hope 4th – Diaphysis

Near the 800m LITTLE MRS MURPHY shifted in away from KING EAGLE (M. Cahill) and made contact with ST QUALO, which became unbalanced.

SUPREMEHEART, TRADIES HOPE and BOLSTER (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.

Near the 150m RICHMOND GROVE shifted out under pressure resulting in SUPREMEHEART being taken out on to LITTLE MRS MURPHY, which was inconvenienced. RICHMOND GROVE continued to shift out under pressure over the final 100m. Apprentice Matheson (RICHMOND GROVE) was advised to make a greater effort in the future to ensure that he keeps his mounts on a straight course.
