Race 1: Garry Crick Auto Group Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Texan Charge 2nd – Queen Doreen 3rd – Bendigo Belle 4th – Lalun Lover

LALUN LOVER (M. McKenzie) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with PERSIAN BOOK (G. Killen), then shifted in, making contact with OZMAN (M. Hellyer).

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of HOT EDITION, C. Munce stated that, in his opinion, the gelding felt flat and failed to let down as expected when placed under pressure and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of HOT EDITION failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on PROSODY, R. Wiggins stated that as a result of being caught 3 wide early and unable to cross the horses to his inside, he elected to ease his mount and find a position closer to the rail, which resulted in him racing further back than anticipated. He further stated that PROSODY failed to run on when placed under pressure and proved disappointing.

Race 2: All Computer Services Class 3 Plate - 2200m
1st – Borehole 2nd – Dolly Dolly 3rd – Golden Palms 4th – Legal Tender

RANGER HILL (D. McWhinney) and LEGAL TENDER (R. Wiggins) began awkwardly.

BOREHOLE (A. Erhart) overraced in the early stages.

DOLLY DOLLY commenced to shift out when placed under pressure leaving the 400m and did so until approaching the 100m.

R. McMahon, rider of the 5th placegetter, DESERT VISION, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in.

Race 3: Bob Jane T Mart Maroochydore Maiden Plate - 1000m
1st – Gold Selection 2nd – Coolbie 3rd – Flindesr Sea 4th - Multiple

MULTIPLE, which was resuming from a long spell, and which had been gelded in the interim, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. Announcements were made to this effect.

The start of this race was delayed as a result of T. Harrison, rider of RUBY QUALO, being dislodged en route to the barriers, and when GOLD SELECTION (M. Palmer), proved difficult to load as a result of BABY RASY, which in the adjoining barrier, being fractious.

Correct weight was delayed to allow K. Matherson, rider of the 3rd placegetter, FLINDERS SEA, to view the stewards’ footage of the race over the final 200m to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against the 2nd placegetter, COOLBIE. Subsequently, K. Matheson did not wish to proceed with a protest. At a subsequent inquiry, it was established that COOLBIE (C. Munce), which was racing greenly, shifted in under pressure, placing FLINDERS SEA in restricted room for a short distance. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of COOLBIE, C. Munce, rider of that gelding, was severely reprimanded and advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

Rounding the home turn and approaching the 400m, RUBY QUALO (T. Harrison) commenced to hang out, resulting in both FLINDERS SEA and BABY RASY (R. Jamieson) being tightened for room and forcing BABY RASY out on to the hind quarters of COOLBIE, resulting in both COOLBIE and BABY RASY becoming unbalanced.

J. Hoopert, rider of MULTIPLE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SABARBAH (M. Hellyer), which had to be checked when tightened for room between MULTIPLE and BABY RASY (R. Jamieson), which shifted out and away from GOLD SELECTION (Michael Palmer). J. Hoopert was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 22 September and to expire at midnight, 01 October 2012.

MULTIPLE lost its off hind plate in running.

FAVEROCK (D. Browne) was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

L. Cassidy, rider of HAMPDEN, pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in under pressure when not sufficiently clear of HEART OF MELBOURNE (B. Richardson), which had to be checked and lost its rightful position. L. Cassidy was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings.

L. Cassidy, rider of HAMPDEN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 150m, whilst riding along, he allowed his mount to shift in when not fully clear of SHOW OF STRENGTH, which contributed to SHOW OF STRENGTH having to be checked and lose its position when racing between VIA CON DIOS and HAMPDEN at that stage. L. Cassidy was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 5 meetings, to be served concurrently with the above suspension, and to commence at midnight, 16 September and to expire at midnight, 28 September.

T. Bell, rider of VIA CON DIOS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift out when being ridden along when insufficiently clear of SHOW OF STRENGTH and contributing to SHOW OF STRENGTH having to be checked between VIA CON DIOS and HAMPDEN. T. Bell was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 5 meetings, to commence at midnight, 19 September and to expire at midnight, 28 September.

Over the concluding stages, VIA CON DIOS had to be eased when tightened for room between SILENT NINJA (J. Byrne) and HAMPDEN, which shifted in under pressure. Shortly after SILENT NINJA was hampered by HAMPDEN which continued to shift in under pressure. L. Cassidy, rider of HAMPDEN, was reprimanded and advised to show more care in similar circumstances.

HEART OF MELBOURNE (B. Richardson) and PERSIAN SEA (E. Wilkinson) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Leaving the 700m, RUNNING VIXEN, which was overracing, shifted out and had to be restrained from the heels of HEARTSUN (R. McMahon).

IT’S WUNDERBAR had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

After passing the 400m, when attempting to take a run between ISSUES (E. Wilkinson) and HEARTSUN, DE BOIS had a tendency to hang in, resulting in DE BOIS being disappointed for that run, and then obliged to shift to the outside of HEARTSUN to obtain clear running.

HEARTSUN raced wide throughout.

Race 7: Bloomhill Therapy House Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
1st – All My Angels 2nd – Thirsty For Blood 3rd – Final Impression 4th – Cracco

SISTER EMMA was declared a late scratching at 3.20 pm on veterinary advice after being injured en route to the track.

Approaching the 800m, FINAL IMPRESSION (D. Browne) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of ALL MY ANGELS (J. Taylor).

At the same stage, TO BE BOLD (M. Hellyer) commenced to race ungenerously and threw its head in the air.

Near the 300m, FINAL IMPRESSION (D. Browne) was disappointed for a run between THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (T. Bell) and CRACCO (R. McMahon) and was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running.

CYCLONE BILLY (L. Dillon) and THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (T. Bell) raced wide for the majority of the race.

J. Stanley, rider of SPURFECT, reported that he intended to take up a forward position, however the mare failed to muster the necessary speed despite his efforts in the early stages and in his opinion the mare is now looking for a further distance than that of today’s event.

When questioned into the disappointing performance of TO BE BOLD, stable representative Mr A. Banks was at a loss to offer an tangible explanation for the horse’s performance today and indicated to stewards that the horse’s racing future would now be reassessed. Stewards advised Mr Banks that TO BE BOLD must officially trial on 2 occasions to the stewards’ satisfaction, with one of those trials being on a grass surface over a distance of 1000m or more, and further that the horse’s nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until such time as TO BE BOLD showed improved performances by way of country meetings. A post-race veterinary examination of TO BE BOLD failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 8: Sporting Chance Class 1 H'cap – 1600m
1st – Sassy Maher 2nd – May 3rd – Flinders Rock 4th – Purrfectly

Connections advised that TEN PERCENT would be ridden in a forward position today if possible, which is in contrast to its recent racing pattern. TEN PERCENT was ridden accordingly.

NOT A LADY (B. Richardson), MACHO CAT (R. Hancock) and EIDSVOLD (T. Harrison) were slow to begin.

Near the 1200m, MACHO CAT had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of NOT A LADY.

Passing the 800m, ROCKLEA RAIDER (A. Allen) improved onto the heels of PURRFECTLYFEARLESS (D. Browne) and shifted out abruptly and was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.

Near the 500m, SUITE HEAVENS (M. Hellyer) shifted out to improve and in doing so took NIELLO’S GIFT (R. Wiggins) out on to TIGERLICIOUS (L. Cassidy), resulting in both NIELLO’S GIFT and TIGERLICIOUS becoming unbalanced at that point. Jockey M. Hellyer, rider of SUITE HEAVENS, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Passing the 200m, MACHO CAT was disappointed for a run between NIELLO’S GIFT and BATON TWIRLER (M. Palmer) and was then held up to a point near the 200, when able to shift to the outside of TIGERLICIOUS to obtain clear running. R. Wiggins, rider of NIELLO’S GIFT, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

TIGERLICIOUS and EIDSVOLD raced wide for the majority of the race.

When questioned as to the overall performance of ROCKLEA RAIDER, apprentice A. Allen stated that he intended to take up a midfield position, however the gelding had a tendency to race fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event. Apprentice Allen was of the view that this affected the gelding’s ability to finish the race off as expected. Trainer P. Cox expressed his disappointment in the performance of ROCKLEA RAIDER and agreed with the comments of apprentice Allen. Mr Cox indicated he would consider removing the blinkers from the gelding for its next race start in an attempt to have it settle. Whilst noting the explanation, stewards advised Mr Cox that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.
