Race 1: Holcim Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – The Blizzard 2nd – Coppin 3rd – Doubtful Prince 4th - Katter
The start of this race was delayed due to the late arrival of the QAF ambulance.
As C. McIver was to be late on course due to transport difficulties, J. Hoopert was substituted as the rider of GIPPSLANDER.
ESCONDEE (T. Harrison) began awkwardly.
LEE HO FOOK (S. Galloway) and STALWART NOVA (C. Kearney) were slow to begin.
Near the 1000m, DOUBTFUL PRINCE (L. Appo), which was overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of THE BLIZZARD (K. Pope) when that horse shifted in. DOUBTFUL PRINCE continued to race ungenerously for some distance as a result.
Passing the 800m, ESCONDEE improved up on to the heels of LEE HO FOOK and had to be steadied.
Leaving the 600m, LEE HO FOOK, when endeavouring to shift out to improve, made contact with GIPPSLANDER (J. Hoopert) on a number of occasions.
DOUBTFUL PRINCE shifted in abruptly at the winning post, making contact with the rail.
BLACK MONTY (A Taylor) was held up for clear running for the majority of the straight.
GIPPSLANDER (J. Hoopert) and STALWARD NOVA raced wide for the majority of the event.
LEE HO FOOK lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 2: Coast Life Homes Benchmark 75 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Our Gold Stash 2nd – Putyourfaithinme 3rd – Zed Man 4th – Music Maestro
ZED MAN (G. Killen) and LIBERTY’S MAGIC (L. Dillon) were slow to begin.
MUSIC MAESTRO (J. Hoopert) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Near the 300m, ZED MAN was tightened for room between LIBERTY’S MAGIC and MUSIC MAESTRO, which shifted out. J. Hoopert, rider of MUSIC MAESTRO, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Race 3: Beerwah Post Office Maiden Plate – 2200m
1st – Hear The beat 2nd – Svetski 3rd – Grigori 4th - Petroni
EXCALIBRE (M. Hellyer) was tightened for room at the start between PETRONI (E. Wilkinson) and HEAR THE BEAT (R. Jamieson), which shifted out.
SHOWRACABEY (R. Wiggins) began awkwardly.
PETRONI raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
Leaving the 1800m, SHOWRACABEY got its head in the air and raced ungenerously at the heels of HEAR THE BEAT for a short distance.
PETRONI had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and 200m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PERSIAN BOOK, K. Wharton was of the view that the gelding failed to run out the 2200m of tonight’s event. Trainer W. Lawson agreed with jockey Wharton’s assessment and would now review the horse’s current preparation.
Race 4: Henzells Caloundra RSL Foundation Class 1 H'cap – 1400m
1st – Chief Bright Start 2nd – Zigurat 3rd – Bittermagic 4th – The Man Said
The start of this race was delayed as a result of FEDERATION SQUARE (D. Browne) becoming fractious in the barriers.
VOODOO BLACK MAGIC (B. Stewart) began awkwardly.
MONETARY MAN (A. Hearn) was slow to begin.
CHIEF BRIGHT STAR (L. Tarrant) and VOODOO BLACK MAGIC raced wide for the majority of the race.
ZIQURAT (R. Wiggins) and BITTERMAGIC (C. McIver) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.
Approaching the finish line, BITTERMAGIC (C. McIver) improved on to the heels of CHIEF BRIGHT STAR and had to be steadied.
MONETARY MAN (A. Hearn) bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the horse has bled, MONETARY MAN would now incur a lifetime bar from racing.
A post race veterinary examination of FEDERATION SQUARE, which yielded ground from the 400m failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer J. Curtain was advised that FEDERATION SQUARE would barred from racing at TAB meetings until such time as the horse showed improved form on the country circuit.
Race 5: Centrepoint Apartments QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1000m
1st – Surf Fire 2nd – Ellawisdom 3rd – Torcello 4th – Navy Chic
ELLAWISDOM (G. Cooksley) and JACKARDEE (A. Pattillo) were slow to begin.
NAVY CHIC (R. Hurdle) began awkwardly.
JACKARDEE was retired from the event near the 600m. A veterinary examination of JACKARDEE revealed the gelding to have suffered a serioius injury to its near foreleg. JACKARDEE was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.
ELLAWISDOM (G. Cooksley) was held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until near the 250m.
TORCELLO (D. Browne) had a tendency to lay in in the straight, and leaving the 100m shifted in and bumped NAVY CHIC (R. Hurdley).
Race 6: Chaps Menswear Benchmark 75 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Zarmarski 2nd – State Of Wealth 3rd – Opal Ombra 4th – Daytime Dazzler
The start of this race was delayed as a result of a veterinary attention provided to JACKARDEE following Race 5.
Trainer J. Crompton was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for GREYZEEL by the prescribed time.
DANEOMITE (R. Hurdle) was tightened for room at the start between TAMOSE (A. Hearn) and SEVENTH HEART (B. Derbyshire), both of which shifted ground.
STATE OF WEALTH (D. Browne) and GREYZEEL (M. Vance) were slow to begin.
SEVENTH HEART, MARTIKA (B. Richardson) and DANEOMITE (R. Hurdle) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Approaching the 300m, GREYZEEL was tightened for room between TORNADOES (A. Taylor) and TAMOSE (A. Hearn), both of which shifted ground.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GREYZEEL, M. Vance stated that after being disappointed for a run near the 300m, the horse lost momentum at that point and then failed to respond to her riding and, in her opinion, proved disappointing in the run to the finish. A post race veterinary examination of GREYZEEL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7 CSR Bricks & Roofing Class 3 H'cap - 1200m
1st – My Quilter 2nd – Rock Of The Coast 3rd – One To Go 4th - Corston
Prior to the race, Mr S. Mackinnon, trainer of MY QUILTER, reported to stewards that following its performance at Doomben on 3 October he had blood tests carried out on the gelding which revealed the onset of a virus. MY QUILTER had since been treated for the virus and had fully recovered. An announcement to this effect was made by the on course broadcaster.
SHELDON(C McCiver) was slow to begin.
Apprentice M. McKenzie, rider of SHADY OUTFIT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that a short distance after the start he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MOUNTED (A. Taylor), forcing that horse in on to LUCK’S ON OUR SIDE (R. Mason), resulting in LUCK’S ON OUR SIDE being checked. Apprentice McKenzie’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 7 meetings, commencing at midnight, Saturday, 27 October and to expire at midnight, 7 November.
Near the 900m, HEIR EXPRESS (G. Cooksley) and ONE TO GO (T. Harrison) were both tightened for room when racing to the inside of SHADY OUTFIT (M. McKenzie), which shifted in.
SHADY OUTFIT, STALWART EMMA (C. Kearney) an HARDCORE PLAY (E. Wilkson) raced wide throughout.
ROCK OF THE COAST (G. Killen) overraced at the heels of MY QUILTER leaving the 900m.
