Race 1: RACING NEXT FRIDAY NIGHT MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000m
1st – Isityourbirthday 2nd – Easyaye 3rd – Man Of Merit 4th – Irresistible Me

As no other rider was available at the weight, stewards permitted R. McMahon, who replaced G. Colless, to ride OLLIEDALE half a kilogram over his declared weight.

OLLIEDALE (R. McMahon), COMASITA (L. Tarrant), ANY POET (D. Browne) and LUVSTROM (M. Hughes) were slow to begin.

Soon after the start OLLIEDALE was taken out by IRRESISTIBLE ME (A. Butler), resulting in OLLIEDALE making heavy contact with COMASITA.

Near the 900m LILLY DE BUSH (A. Taylor) had to be eased from the heels of ISITYOURBIRTHDAY (N. Patchett) which shifted in when not quite clear.

After passing the 800m COMASITA shifted in slightly leaving the false rail and as a result was obliged to shift out reaching the course proper near the 700m, inconveniencing ANY POET and LIMPOPO (A. Spinks).

Approaching the 600m ISITYOURBIRTHDAY shifted in and contacted BABYBIRD (G. Killen). This resulted in BABYBIRD, which was racing greenly, losing ground and shifting out slightly. OPTIMISTIC ANGEL (M. McKenzie), which was following and overracing, improved quickly to the inside of BABYBIRD where there was insufficient room and approaching the 500m had to be checked when BABYBIRD shifted in slightly. COMASITA, which was following, had to be severely checked and shifted out, which resulted in ANY POET striking the heels of COMASITA and falling. LIMPOPO and LUVSTROM, which were following, were inconvenienced, and OLLIEDALE was unable to avoid the fallen ANY POET and also fell, dislodging R. McMahon. R. McMahon was conveyed to Caloundra Base Hospital for observation. At a subsequent inquiry stewards could not be satisfied that the incident could be attributed to the carelessness of any one rider and as a result took no direct action. A post-race veterinary examination of OLLIEDALE revealed that the horse sustained probable spinal trauma and had died shortly after.

Near the 200m THE FRIENDLYMAULER (J. Hoopert), when racing greenly, shifted in under pressure and inconvenienced CLOUDY NIGHT (J. King).

COMASITA was eased down by its rider after passing the winning post. The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse had severed both flexor tendons on the off hind leg and was euthanased on humane grounds.

Race 2: REED PROPERTY GROUP MAIDEN H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Victorveto 2nd – Eyeforit 3rd – Madhurima 4th – Bellhop Kingdom

The start of this race was delayed awaiting the arrival of a replacement ambulance following jockey R. McMahon’s transportation to hospital and for repairs to be carried out to a section of the running rail that was damaged as a result of the fall in Race 1.

A further delay to the start was caused when MADHURIMA (R. Myers) had to be replated behind the barriers.

VICTORVETO (E. Wilkinson) was hampered at the start between PASILLA (M. Cahill) and WAYNE'S GIFT (K. Gates), which shifted in.

FLASH OF LUCK (T. Treichel) jumped awkwardly.

Approaching the 1200m EYEFORIT (A. Spinks) shifted out resulting in MADHURIMA being taken wider on the track.

Near the 150m BELLHOP KINGDOM (R. Hancock) shifted in when placed under pressure and WAYNE'S GIFT shifted in away from that runner and made contact with the running rail.

Race 4: BIG KART TRACK CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Lightning Vault 2nd – Little Antics 3rd – Sweet And Vicious 4th – Firestorm

Trainers L. Gough (ROCK THE PAC) and P. Kings (LITTLE ANTICS) were both advised that their respective runners must remain on course for a further 3 hours following the event after which time a further blood sample would be taken.

The start of this race was delayed when BEE PLUS (T. Bell) had to be resaddled behind the barriers.

Correct weight was delayed to enable J. Byrne, the rider of 3rd placegetter SWEET AND VICIOUS, the opportunity to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 2nd placegetter LITTLE ANTICS (T. Harrison). After viewing the film, jockey Byrne indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

ROCK THE PAC (R. Wiggins) and SWEET AND VICIOUS (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.

CAPTAIN FASTBUCK (P. Hammersley) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When the pace steadied near the 800m LITTLE ANTICS had to be steadied from the heels of LIGHTNING VAULT (A. Holt). FIRESTORM (R. Hurdle), BEE PLUS and ROCK THE PAC, which were following, also had to be checked as a consequence. As a result of ROCK THE PAC being checked, it shifted out taking SWEET AND VICIOUS wider on the track.

1st – Veralini 2nd – Flying Home 3rd – Grab The Loot 4th – Wishmore

Near the 300m HOT CHOCOLAT (T. Harrison) shifted out and brushed the hind quarters of CHOIR GIRL, which resulted in CHOIR GIRL becoming unbalanced and shifting in inconveniencing HOT CHOCOLAT.

Stewards sought an explanation from A. Spinks regarding the tactics he employed on VAIN AT HEART, which led by a considerable distance in the middle stages of the race. Jockey Spinks stated that he was instructed to settle the horse in a handy position with cover, however in the early stages when he attempted to restrain the gelding it commenced to overrace and continued to do so in the back straight until passing the 600m despite his efforts to attempt to restrain the horse. His explanation was accepted.

Following this event jockey D. Browne, who had been dislodged from his mount in Race 1, was stood down from remaining engagements by the Club doctor. Riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
