Race 1: Curran Group Class 2 H'cap - 2200m
1st – Moochin 2nd – Bloomin Tipsy 3rd – Angel’s Destiny 4th – Zero Limit

Connections advised that DESERT RULER would race off the pace if circumstances permit.

ANGEL’S DESTINY (J. Stanley) began awkwardly.

ANGEL’S DESTINY overraced in the early stages.

Approaching the 1600m, DESERT RULER was eased out of the event when rider K. Pope had concerns with the horse’s action. A post-race veterinary examination of DESERT RULER revealed the horse to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer R. Bradshaw was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for DESERT RULER prior to its next race start.

Stewards questioned apprentice M. McKenzie regarding his riding of CUBAN particularly leaving the 1300m where he permitted the mare to shift wider, allowing another runner to improve to his inside, which resulted in CUBAN racing 3 wide for the remainder of the race. Apprentice McKenzie explained that he may have erred in allowing CUBAN to drift wider at that point in the race, which allowed BLOOMIN TIPSY to improve to his inside at that stage. In the presence of apprentice McKenzie’s representative, trainer Mr R. Hurley, he was severely admonished and advised that in future a higher standard of riding would be expected of an apprentice of his experience. Apprentice McKenzie was advised that his ride would be referred to Racing Queensland’s Jockey Advocate.

ANGEL’S DESTINY lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 2: JLP Fabrication QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – Teronado 2nd – Pound On Tubby 3rd – Nordic Story 4th – Rapid Crystal

The start of this was delayed when the saddle on RAPID CRYSTAL shifted en route to the barriers, requiring the horse to be resaddled.

After beginning fairly, TERONADO (D. Browne) was reluctant to hold its position between RAPID CRYSTAL (B. Swaffer) and NORDIC STORY (J. Byrne), and as a result lost ground.

JACARANDA SPIRIT (A. Spinks) began awkwardly and overraced in the early stages.

RED RYDER (G. Killen) and NORDIC STORY raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 3: Searles Garden Products Maiden Plate – 1600m
1st – Madhurima 2nd – Silken Endurance 3rd – Cuba Libre 4th – Craiglea Calipso

HABITUAL LASS (G. Killen) and CUBA LIBRE (J. Stanley) overraced in the early stages.

Leaving the 1000m, as a result of the lack of pace, D. Browne, rider of MADHURIMA, which was racing at the rear of the field, elected to shift wider and improved sharply to obtain the lead leaving the 800m.

CRAIGLEA CALIPSO (L. Tarrant) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 4: King Of Knives Sunshine Coast Class 3 Plate - 1200m
1st – I’m Busy 2nd – King Eagle 3rd – Weona Dazzler 4th – Constant Craving

As apprentice K. Matheson was indisposed, P. Schmidt was substituted as the rider of NINEVEH’S WISH.

FIST OF FURY (G. Goold), CONSTANT CRAVING (S. Sheargold) and NINEVEH’S WISH were all slow to begin.

LOTACHOC (M. McKenzie), shifted out at the start, making contact with the hind quarters of WEONA DAZZLER (D. Browne).

FIST OF FURY overraced in the early stages.

WEONA DAZZLER hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.

On pulling up, D. Browne, rider of WEONA DAZZLER, was dislodged. When loose, WEONA DAZZLER attempted to jump the running rail and became momentarily cast. After being recaptured, WEONA DAZZLER was examined by the veterinary surgeon with no significant abnormalities detected. D. Browne advised stewards he was free of any injury and able to fulfil his remainding engagements.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of I’M BUSY, trainer M. Mair stated that he was not disappointed with the mare’s previous run and felt that it only weakened over the concluding stages in that event. He added that the drop back in distance today was also to the horse’s benefit.

FIST OF FURY lost its off hind plate in running.

A post-race veterinary examination of FIST OF FURY revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start for FIST OF FURY.

Race 5: Boss Building Maintenance Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Black Monty 2nd – Sequends 3rd – Pediment 4th – Go Thiago Go

The start of this race was delayed when QUAD was unable to be loaded into the barriers and as such was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 3.27 pm, with the following deductions applicable.

3 cents in the dollar for the win of Black Monty
8 cents in the dollar for place of winner Black Monty
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Sequends
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Pediment

Trainer S. Jokic was advised that QUAD must perform to the stewards’ satisfaction in an official trial prior to its next race start.

COUNTRYWIDE (A. Taylor) knuckled over on jumping away.

SEQUENDS (M. Cahill) began awkwardly and was then unable to muster early speed despite the efforts of its rider. M. Cahill reported on return to scale that SEQUENDS was reluctant to stride out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of SEQUENDS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stable representative for trainer D. Bougoure was advised to notify stewards of any abnormality that may come to light in the following 48 hours that may have had a bearing on today’s performance

TIPONI FORE (M. Hellyer) raced ungenerously when placed under pressure in the home straight, and near the 200m shifted in, crowding the running of COUNDTRYWIDE (A. Taylor), which had to be steadied.

M. Hellyer reported that TIPONI FORCE had a tendency to hang in throughout the race and proved difficult to ride out. Trainer G. Harrison was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its racing manners.

Race 6: Cellar Maintenance Australia Class 1 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Williams Agenda 2nd – Craiglea Masta 3rd - Flying Indy 4th – The Blizzard

SAMMY LOU (R. Mason) began awkwardly and threw its head up, losing ground.

LEGAL DANCER (C. Pye) and GET ON (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.

MISSAMORK (J. Stanley) raced wide throughout.

CRAIGLEA MASTA lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 7: Seven Qld Class 1 H'cap – 1400m
1st – Peron 2nd – Pickabee 3rd –Victorveto 4th – Fantisha

Stewards accepted there were mitigating circumstances regarding R. Hurdle being dually engaged on GAY DECEIVER and ALWAYS DREAMIN’ and took no further action. M. McKenzie was substituted as the rider of GAY DECEIVER.

Leaving the 700m, PERON (M. Cahill) shifted out around the heels of OFFSET PRINCE (K. Wharton) and in doing so forced ALWAYS DREAMIN’ (R. Hurdle) wider on the track. ALWAYS DREAMIN’ raced wide from that point onwards.

ARISTON (G. Goold) raced wide for the majority of the race.

A post-race veterinary examination of OLD LOFTY revealed a laceration to its near side hock.
