GENERAL
As apprentice R. Ride was injured and jockey T. Bell was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Stewards accepted G. Cooksley’s reasons for having to forgo his rides in races 5, 6 and 8, and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: SUNSHINE COAST CUP 26 JANUARY QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 850M
1st – Epsilon 2nd – Little Miss Molly 3rd – Craiglea Evita 4th – In The Sky Rocket
There was a delay to correct weight to allow stewards to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether TEN TO LIFE (D. Gill) was denied a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage, it was deemed that TEN TO LIFE lowered its head quickly as the barriers were opened, resulting in D. Gill being pulled over the horse’s head and dislodged. Therefore stewards deemed that TEN TO LIFE was afforded a fair start and declared correct weight on the semaphored numbers. A post-race veterinary examination of TEN TO LIFE found no abnormalities. As a result of being dislodged, jockey Gill was transported to Caloundra Base Hospital for precautionary x-rays and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
LORCAN (J. Lloyd), NEXT MINUTE (G. Goold) and RHAEGARS FIRE (R. Hancock) were all slow to begin.
IN THE SKY ROCKET (J. Byrne), which raced wide throughout, hung in throughout the event, causing its rider to be unable to fully test his mount from the 300m onwards.
LORCAN raced greenly throughout and hung out in the home straight.
RHAEGARS FIRE was uncompetitive throughout. Connections were advised that the gelding’s nomination would be refused at TAB venues until such time as it competes competitively in an official barrier trial. Trainer S. Pedron reported that RHAEGARS FIRE shifted its near hind plate in running.
G. Goold reported to stewards that in the early stages NEXT MINUTE could not muster speed and as a result he was forced to ride vigorously, however was satisfied with the way the filly finished the race off.
J. Stanley, the rider of MR SEDUCTION, reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout the event.
Race 2: JOIN 2013 100 CLUB MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M
1st – It’s On The Pocket 2nd – Call Me Rusty 3rd – Picture It 4th – Flying Weapon
SPEEDMEISTER (A. Allen) and WILD PRIDE (A. Spinks) were slow to begin.
Leaving the 900m SPEEDMEISTER had to be checked when tightened for room between ETERNO (M. McKenzie) and WILD PRIDE, which shifted in and away from CALL ME RUSTY (L. Tarrant), which was taken in by GET IT RIGHT (J. Byrne), which shifted in and away from OUTBACK CHERYL (M. Vance), which shifted in slightly. After taking evidence from all riders involved and viewing the patrol footage, stewards could not be satisfied that any rider was at fault and deemed the matter to be a racing incident and took no further action. Shortly afterwards FLYING WEAPON (G. Goold) raced ungenerously when in restricted room between ETERNO and CALL ME RUSTY and as a result was restrained and lost ground.
Apprentice L. Tarrant, the rider of CALL ME RUSTY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in which resulted in ETERNO being tightened for room and having to be checked, and also causing WILD PRIDE to be tightened on to the fence and having to be checked. Apprentice Tarrant’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at the expiration of his current period of suspension at midnight on Friday, 8 February, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 20 February 2013.
Near the 500m WILD PRIDE had to be checked when tightened for room by ETERNO which shifted in away from GET IT RIGHT (J. Byrne), despite the efforts of its rider.
Race 3: MANSELL BULK HAULAGE PTY LTD MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M
1st – Hallside Showdown 2nd – Bellhop Kingdom 3rd – Bulga Creek 4th – Zeromix
STRAIGHTUP HUSTLER (K. Yoshida) was slow to begin and was then slowly into stride.
STEFALINI (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly.
STEFALINI overraced in the early stages.
BELLHOP KINGDOM (K. Wharton) was held up for a short distance rounding the home turn.
BULGA CREEK (G. Goold) laid out under pressure in the home straight, causing its rider to be unable to fully test the gelding.
Stewards questioned trainer T. Miller regarding the tactics adopted on GO THE SHOW, particularly his reasons for having GO THE SHOW positioned outside the lead in today’s event, which is in contrast to its established racing pattern. Mr Miller advised stewards that he instructed jockey Cahill to be positive out of the barriers, however he did not necessarily anticipate that the horse would be leading. Jockey Cahill was also questioned and he explained that after travelling a short distance it became apparent that he would be caught wide and therefore he elected to press forward and obtain the position outside the lead approaching the 800m. Stewards accepted the explanations. A post-race veterinary examination of GO THE SHOW (M. Cahill) revealed no significant findings.
Race 4: THE COMPASS INSTITUTE BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP – 1800M
1st – Random Orbit 2nd – Rocket Boots 3rd – Summarise 4th – Business Day
BUSINESS DAY (R. Wiggins) and SUMMARISE (J. Lloyd) were both slow to begin.
ROCKET BOOTS (M. Vance) raced wide during the early stages before being ridden forward to assume a position in the lead near the 1300m.
BUSINESS DAY shifted out near the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards, and at a point near the 600m became awkward when RANDOM ORBIT (J. Byrne) shifted out to improve.
KEVEJON (M. McKenzie) had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 200m.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Cooksley regarding the disappointing performance of PUTYOURFAITHINME. Jockey Cooksley stated that the mare overraced during the early stages, refusing to settle until near the 1400m and he believed that this may have had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. He also added that PUTYOURFAITHINME was under pressure from the 600m. Trainer P. Jenkins agreed with jockey Cooksley’s comments and he could offer no further explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of PUTYOURFAITHINME
Race 5: GOLDEN BEACH TAVERN CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – General Jackson 2nd – Loupets 3rd – Favco 4th – Flying Indy
TROPIC GEM (A. Allen) and STREAM OF LIGHT (A. Spinks) were slow to begin.
FLYING INDY (G. Killen), which was slow to begin, was further hampered shortly after the start when tightened between RATTLE THE TIN (J. Lloyd) and NOT A DULL MOMENT (L. Tarrant), which shifted in.
WILLIAMS AGENDA (K. Wharton) raced wide throughout.
The veterinary surgeon reported that FAVCO (J. Byrne) pulled up suffering a mild case of heat stress.
Race 6: BUNDILLA DRY CLEANERS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

Connections advised that from the wide barrier ELECTROJET (G. Goold) would be ridden back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.
CANNINGLY (R. Wiggins), ELECTROJET and EMERTON (K. Pope) were all slow to begin.
EMERTON overraced during the early stages.
When the pace slackened after leaving the 800m SAMMY LOU (J. Lloyd) commenced to overrace and shifted out forcing BLACK MONTY (G. Killen) wider on the track. This resulted in BLACK MONTY racing three wide for the remainder of the event. SAMMY LOU continued to overrace until leaving the 600m.
Near the 700m ROCKLEA RAIDER (A. Allen), when being restrained from the heels of JEWEL OF CASHEL (B. Swaffer), shifted out despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in CANNINGLY being tightened on to the hind quarters of REGENCY ROYALE (K. Yoshida).
Near the 500m ROCKLEA RAIDER (A. Allen), which hung out for the majority of the event, shifted out at that point and had to be restrained from the heels of CANNINGLY.
Approaching the 400m REGENCY ROYALE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of JEWEL OF CASHEL which shifted out. Apprentice B. Swaffer (JEWEL OF CASHEL) was issued with a reprimand and advised to show more care in similar circumstances.
A post-race veterinary examination of BLACK MONTY revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal recovery rate.
Apprentice G. Goold, the rider of ELECTROJET, advised stewards that in his opinion the gelding was very awkward in its action over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination of ELECTROJET revealed no significant findings. Trainer Ms D. Steinbeck was advised that stewards would await the results of veterinary tests she intends to have carried out on the horse before determining whether any action should be taken against ELECTROJET.

MONTREUX JAZZ (L. Tarrant) raced wide throughout.
MATILLA BAY (J. Stanley) and DENWOOD both overraced in the middle stages.
MATILLA BAY was held up for clear running for a short distance after passing the 400m.
Stewards afforded R. Wiggins the opportunity to comment on the performance of SHOW A PRINCE. He stated that SHOW A PRINCE travelled well throughout and he attempted to shift wider on the track shortly after entering the home straight and in doing so made contact with DENWOOD. He said that as he was unable to secure clear running to the outside of MONTREUX JAZZ at this point of the race, he elected to shift back to the inside, however the gelding then commenced to lay in and did not finish the race off strongly. A post-race veterinary examination of SHOW A PRINCE revealed no abnormalities.
Race 8: K. SMITH & SON JEWELLERS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1600M
1st – Firestorm 2nd – Victorveto 3rd – Single In London 4th – Dazzle Us
Stewards permitted apprentice G. Goold to replace jockey T. Bell as the rider of SINGLE IN LONDON and apprentice L. Tarrant to replace G. Cooksley as the rider of CLONMACNOISE, when no senior riders were available.
Connections advised that FIRESTORM (R. Wiggins) would be ridden on the pace if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
