GENERAL

As A. Spinks was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Apprentice B. Richardson was reprimanded for failing to provide her winning rides book.

Race 1: SIMPLOT BM70 H’CAP – 2200M

FLYING DYNAMITE (G. Killen) was crowded on jumping between WORLD BY NIGHT (B. El-Issa) and ONE LAST WHIFF (C. Schmidt), which shifted in after being bumped on the hindquarter.

COLOUR CODE (A. Merritt), which pulled hard and raced wide without cover in the middle stages, hung out, resulting in the gelding racing three wide for the remainder of the event.

Apprentice C. Schmidt reported at scale that ONE LAST WHIFF did not sprint when placed under pressure shortly after entering the straight and was a little disappointing. A swab sample was taken from ONE LAST WHIFF.

A post-race veterinary examination of FLYING DYNAMITE revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2: WHY COOK WHEN YOU CAN CREATE CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1000M

CONAHY (C. Schmidt) was caught racing three wide throughout.

Race 3: MCCAIN FOOD ADVANTAGE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1600M

On jumping MR DODO (C. Munce) and QABLA (A. Merritt) were badly crowded for room between TIGER JET (D. Browne) and MILLION KISSES (B. El-Issa), which shifted out at the start.

B. El-Issa, the rider of MILLION KISSES, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in near the 1100m, making heavy contact with CUBA LIBRA (J. Byrne), which became unbalanced, resulting in that horse being taken in on to PETRONI (J. Stanley), which was racing to the inside, having to be steadied. B. El-Issa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 24 August and expire at midnight on Sunday 1 September 2013.

Near the 600m RESERVED (M. Cahill) endeavoured to shift out from behind MISS ALEXANDRA (M. Crawford), however DANEHILL NATIVE (T. Bell), which was racing outside of RESERVED, improved quickly and held its racing line, resulting in RESERVED having to be checked when MISS ALEXANDRA shifted out slightly. CUBA LIBRA, which was following, was steadied in consequence.

For some distance after the 500m CUBA LIBRA and RESERVED were badly held up behind BLESS THIS ROSE (C. Schmidt) and MISS MOOKYCHICK (J. Hoopert), which were both beginning to give ground. PETRONI, which was following these horses, was also checked and shifted out to try to find clear running. CUBA LIBRE and RESERVED were significantly hampered in this incident and unable to find clear running until near the 200m.

M. Crawford (MISS ALEXANDRA) was reprimand for shifting out near the 400m around the leaders and in doing so making contact with the shoulder of DANEHILL NATIVE.

For a short distance in the early part of the straight ZANTARO (K. Wharton) was held up for clear running.

For the major part of the home straight MR DODO hung in and proved difficult to ride out.

Race 4: NESCAFE 75TH BIRTHDAY MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

RUBAROSA (B. Richardson) began very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.

Apprentice A. Taylor (MISS RADICAL) was reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in near the 900m when not properly clear of BURNT TOAST (J. Hoopert), which was steadied.

Near the 800m MISS RADICAL appeared to shy and shifted out abruptly on to SPRINGDALE HEIGHTS (J. Stanley), which was taken out resulting in HELEN OF STRADA (K. Wharton) clipping that horse’s heels and blundering. Apprentice Taylor explained that the horse commenced to race keenly at that point and appeared to shy at the running rail and when she restrained it, it shifted out abruptly. In the circumstances, no action was taken. BURNT TOAST, which was following MISS RADICAL, was checked.

Just prior to straightening RUBAROSA was bumped on two occasions by HELEN OF STRADA, which was shifting out to improve.

On straightening, MISS RADICAL was held up when there was insufficient room to the inside of LADY STARDUST (S. Fawke). INDY MISS (G. Colless), which was following, was also inconvenienced and shifted out before finding clear running.

A post-race veterinary examination of DOUBLE MOCHA (C. Schmidt) revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: RED VELVET QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

Rounding the home turn ALL TO REAL (A. Coome) shifted out abruptly off the heels of the tiring EDITOR’S GIFT (K. Wharton) and made contact with ZEEVA (G. Colless).

SIRARDI (T. Bell) raced wide without cover throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of EDITOR’S GIFT, which finished tailed off, revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6: FOUR & TWENTY CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed initially when HEEZA BONZA (T. Jeffries) had to be resaddled. Whilst this was occurring, SURF FIRE (J. Byrne) shifted its near fore plate, resulting in it having to be refitted. As a result of these two occurrences, the start was delayed considerably.

SHOOT THROUGH (S. Payne) and NOBODY’S BOY (C. Schmidt) were both slow to begin.

Approaching the 100m GIRLS WORLD (R. Johnston-Bell) shifted in under pressure across the heels of COUNTY COMMANDS (M. Cahill).

Apprentice G. Goold reported that SHOWRUN, which was resuming, raced wide throughout and failed to run on when placed under pressure.

Race 7: PFD FOOD SERVICES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1400M

Due to the delay that occurred in Race 6, the start of this race was also delayed slightly.

DAYUAN (K. Wharton) bounded at the start.

BELLADONNA DELAGO (B. El-Issa) was crowded by ALEXTHEASTRONOMER (V. Venkaya), which shifted in abruptly at the start.

Near the 1200m ALEXTHEASTRONOMER was steadied when carried in by EMPRESS IN FLIGHT (G. Colless), which shifted in when not properly clear. G. Colless was advised to exercise more care.

Apprentice N. Nishio reported that the saddle on CARDWELL shifted shortly after the start, placing him at a disadvantage throughout the event.

STRADIVARI MISS (R. Ride) hung in in the straight despite the efforts of its rider.

G. Colless reported that in the early stages of the straight EMPRESS IN FLIGHT was inclined to hang in. Near the 200m EMPRESS IN FLIGHT shifted out from behind the heels of KAMARAH (M. Hellyer) and made contact with HEART OF TEXAS (G. Killen).

M. Cahill stated that STAINER weakened quickly after straightening and he was of the opinion that there was something seriously amiss with the gelding and he eased it over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of STAINER revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T. Miller was advised that STAINER must perform competitively in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.

Race 8: FONTERRA FOOD SERVICES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

Trainer B. Gill was fined $100 for failing to declare D. Gill as the rider of SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH by the prescribed time.

Trainer R. Hurley advised that from its wide barrier MAJOR MIKE (D. Browne) would be ridden quietly. The horse settled back in the field.

SAMMY LOU (A. Taylor) began very awkwardly with its head up and shifted out abruptly resulting in LUCK FROM ABOVE (M. Hellyer) being checked.

SINE TIMORE (M. Cahill) raced wide throughout.

Near the 900m BUNDU BOY (J. Byrne) shifted out when racing ungenerously behind the heels of WHISKY HIGHWAY (T. Bell), taking LUCK FROM ABOVE wider.

Passing the 800m MORE THAN WILLING (A. Coome) had to check away from the heels of MAJOR MIKE.

MORE THAN WILLING was held up in the early stages of the straight.

Approaching the 200m MORE THAN WILLING and MIGHTY MOUNTAIN (A. Allen) improved to the inside of the tiring SAMMY LOU. In this incident MIGHTY MOUNTAIN made contact with MORE THAN WILLING, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

GRANDEES GEM (K. Wharton) was held up for clear running until approaching the 200m.

Near the 150m BUNDU BOY shifted in and made contact with WHISKY HIGHWAY.
