Race 1: COKE ZERO CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1300M
Connections advised that from the wide gate, QUANTUM SHADOW (S. Payne), which has not been finishing its races off, would be ridden quietly with cover if possible. QUANTUM SHADOW raced very keenly in the early stages, refused to settle and consequently raced three wide without cover.
POPULAR BELIEF (T. Jeffries) bounded at the start.
BILBERRY STAR (S. Bogenhuber) began awkwardly and shifted out bumping the hindquarters of STORM MAGIC (R. Goltz), resulting in BILBERRY STAR losing ground.
S. Lanigan (HEART OF TEXAS) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift ground a considerable distance in the home straight, causing inconvenience to HOT CHILLI MILLY (L. Tarrant).
G. Killen, rider of 4th placegetter SO UNFORGETTABLE, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts right out to the finish whenever possible.
Race 2: COCA-COLA AMATIL CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1400M
Stewards accepted the explanation for A. Butler replacing J. Morris as the rider of NO WIN NO WINE.
KISTAMON (L. Tarrant) bounded at the start resulting in its rider becoming severely unbalanced.
HI JO SILVER (S. Bogenhuber) raced very keenly in the early and middle stages and then when the rider endeavoured to restrain the gelding near the 700m, the bit pulled through its mouth to the offside.
Near the 500m LITTLE ANTICS (B. Looker) was momentarily crowded by SILENT LAKE (T. Jeffries), which shifted in slightly.
Near the 400m LITTLE ANTICS was again inconvenienced between KISTAMON and SILENT LAKE, both of which shifted ground. When LITTLE ANTICS steadied, TALLAHATCHIE (R. Goltz), which was following, was inconvenienced slightly.
Rounding the turn and in the early part of the straight BON TEMPS (J. Kokotajlo) was held up behind the tiring HI JO SILVER.
Race 3: SPRITE CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1000M
After being loaded, TURIFF (G. Goold) became extremely fractious in the gates, getting both hind legs cast over the back gates. Acting on veterinary advice, TURIFF was withdrawn at 6.52 pm. Trainer B. Birch was advised that the gelding would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being permitted to start again. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TURIFF be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 6.52 pm:
8 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
8 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #8
MACDYE (S. Lanigan) and JERROCITY (B. Looker) were slow to begin.
Near the 600m SPLASH AND DASH (A. Taylor) was steadied when crowded inside of SURF FIRE (C. McIver), which shifted in and away from THE MAN SAID (N. Evans). A short distance later SPLASH AND DASH was then inclined to hang out towards the heels of THE MAN SAID and had to be steadied.
Race 4: MT FRANKLIN MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
Whilst parading behind the barrier, UP IN THE MIST (L. Tarrant), which was proving difficult to control, dislodged its rider and cantered down to the end of the chute before being recaptured.
Shortly after the start BURNT TOAST (E. Wilkinson) was steadied from the heels of QUIET COLLECT (S. Lanigan), which was taken in slightly by INDY MISS (T. Harrison).
In the straight MISS RADICAL (A. Taylor) was inconvenienced by the weakening UP IN THE MIST.
Race 5: VITAMIN WATER CLASS 3 PLATE – 1800M
Near the 1400m MR HONOR (R. McMahon) was steadied off the heels of DAYUAN (T. Tincknell). GRAB THE LOOT (S. Bogenhuber), which was following, was inconvenienced slightly.
When questioned regarding the reasons why DAYUAN raced wide in the early and middle stages when there was clear opportunity to shift closer to the rail, apprentice T. Tincknell explained that approaching the 1400m she was unsure whether she was sufficiently clear of MR HONOR and for this reason was reluctant to cross to race in front of that horse. She said when she considered then trying to shift closer to the rail, AZZIMATO (E. Wilkinson), which was racing behind the leader, then commenced to shift away from the fence and as a result this left DAYUAN racing wider on the track than she would have liked. Stewards advised Ms Tincknell that she may have erred in the early stages by not establishing that she was sufficiently clear of MR HONOR and therefore could have crossed to race one wide outside of AZZIMATO. She was further advised that when rounding the home turn she should ensure she maintains her racing line rather than shifting out as she did, resulting in MR HONOR being inconvenienced when endeavouring to shift to the outside of that horse’s heels. Bearing in mind the relative inexperience of Ms Tincknell, no action was taken, however stewards deemed that the ride was such that it warranted referral to the RQL training department for any remedial action they deem necessary.
Race 6: GOULBURN VALLEY MAIDEN H'CAP – 1600M
On jumping, MISS KARDASHIAN (C. Schmidt) was inconvenienced slightly by MISS ALEXANDRA (M. Crawford), which was taken out by CRAIGLEA RELOAD (T. Tincknell), which began awkwardly.
Just prior to straightening MISS KARDASHIAN was held up behind TREECAT MAGIC (C. McIver) and had to be shifted in to find clear running.
Jockey M. Crawford (MISS ALEXANDRA) was reprimanded for the manner in which he used his whip in the straight and advised that as he has been spoken to on a number of occasions recently, should he continue to reoffend in regard to this matter, more serious action may be taken.
