GENERAL
As C. Munce and G. Goold were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the stewards' Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Cricks Sunshine Coast 3yo H'cap – 1000m
CARDICIAN (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
ZEEVA (M. Cahill) was slowly into stride.
PASSATORIO (D. Browne) was held up rounding the home turn.
LITTLE MISS MOLLY (A. Taylor) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 2: Bob Jane T Mart Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
SNIP ‘N’ AWAY (L. Cassidy) and ETRANGERE (T. Jeffries) were slow to begin.
Approaching the first turn, SNIP ‘N’ AWAY commenced to overrace badly and shifted out from behind the heels of BEAUTRIX (L. Tarrant), resulting in ETRANGERE and AKBAR MAHAL (R. McMahon) racing wide in the early and middle stages.
IRON JACKET (M. Cahill) overraced in the middle stages.
SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH (D. Gill) laid out under pressure in the home straight.
A post race veterinary examination of AKBAR MAHAL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 3: All Computer Services Maiden H'cap – 1600m
ROLLING PARADISE (R. McMahon) jumped away awkwardly, made contact with RED DANDY (T. Bell) and lost ground.
OZICROWN (J. Byrne) and CASINO CENTURY (S. Sheargold) were slow to begin.
LASCAR (A. Butler) was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages before being permitted to stride to the lead near the 800m.
When the pace slackened leaving the 800m, FEMININE MISS (A. Taylor) and BURST THROUGH (R. Jamieson) were both obliged to steady from heels.
CASINO CENTURY raced wide throughout.
When asked to comment on the performance of FEMININE MISS, A. Taylor reported that the mare was disappointing however was stepping up in distance today and felt it did not run out a strong mile.
Race 4: Cotton Tree Markets BM85 H'cap – 1400m
HARNEY (D. Gill) and MY QUILTER (A. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly, made contact and lost ground.
Leaving the 1200m, when KISS ME DEADLY (T. Bell) eased to avoid the heels of DIET (G. Killen), INDUBIOUS (M. Cahill), which was following, commenced to overrace and was obliged to shift wider, forcing MY QUILTER wider also. As a result of this, INDUBIOUS then raced 3 wide throughout and MY QUILTER was obliged to steady to a position at the tail of the field.
TROILUS FUSE (K. Wharton) shifted out rounding the home turn and in doing so made contact with KISS ME DEADLY on a number of occasions. KISS ME DEADLY then laid in under pressure in the home straight.
A. Taylor was asked to comment on the disappointing performance of MY QUILTER. She stated that when forced wider in the early stages of the race by another runner, she was obliged to position the horse further back in the field than she would have liked, however MY QUILTER travelled well until entering the home straight where the gelding commenced to lay out under pressure and proved very disappointing in the run to the line. Trainer S. Mackinnon agreed with the comments of Miss Taylor, adding that the speed pattern of the race, in his opinion, did not suite MY QUILTER. Mr Mackinnon, however advised that he would have blood tests carried out in the coming days and undertook to advise if anything came to light which might explain today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination of MY QUILTER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities, and a swab sample was taken.
When question, M. Cahill stated that despite being forced to race wide on INDUBIOUS, he was of the opinion that the gelding was quite disappointing in the home straight, however could offer no tangible explanation. Trainer L. Treloar advised that, in his opinion, racing in the home straight away from the fence may have had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s overall performance, nevertheless it would now be the stable’s intention to spell INDUBIOUS. A post race veterinary examination of INDUBIOIUS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 5: Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation Maiden H'cap – 1200m
LEMAITRE (L. Tarrant) began awkwardly and shifted in, hampering SHARDAY (J. Byrne).
MISS MARBURG (T. Jeffries) and BELLHOP KINGDOM (A. Spinks) were slow to begin.
J. Stanley reported that BLACK CLARET laid in throughout the event and proved difficult to ride, improving onto heels on a number of occasions after leaving the 800m.
ABOVE US (R. Wiggins) improved on to heels near the 500m and had to be steadied.
Near the 200m, BLACK CLARET (J. Stanley) had to be steadied when inconvenienced by SHARDAY, which shifted in under pressure.
C. Schmidt was asked to comment on the performance of CHARLIE’S MOMENT, along with the tactics adopted from the 600m, in particular her reasons for not following INDIANA HEART (R. McMahon), which had commenced to improve into the race from approaching the 500m. C. Schmidt stated she had been instructed to attempt to improve into the race closer to the fence as trainer K. Schweida believed that horses were unable to make up ground from back in the field wide on the home turn. She added that this resulted in her not having clear running at times in the home straight, causing her to alter course near the 300m and again approaching the 100m. C. Schmidt added that she was pleased with the overall performance as the horse was doing it best work over the concluding stages, and, in her opinion, would be suited by a step up in distance.
Race 6: Cricks Sunshine Coast Class 1 H'cap – 1000m
After arriving at the barriers, SHEEZA MYZZILE lost its near fore plate and had to be replated. As a result the start of the race was considerably delayed.
SEQUALISCIOUS (L. Tarrant), which commenced to race greenly over the concluding stages, shifted out under pressure before shifting back in, causing BULLET ONE (D. Browne) to be inconvenienced.
Race 7: Bloomhill Therapy house Class 4 H'cap – 1000m
The start of the race was delayed due to the considerable delay at the start in the previous race.
On jumping, EMERTON (L. Tarrant) was steadied when crowded between LITTLE MRS MURPHY (C. Kearney) and LATIN AMERICA (M. Cahill), both of which shifted ground.
PETERBONETTI (R. McMahon) began awkwardly and shifted in, crowding CONHENRI (W. O'Connell).
GENERAL JACKSON (K. Wharton) began awkwardly.
ZIPPITY JET (G. Killen) was slow to begin.
PETERBONETTI and EMBRAER (C. Schmidt) were both held up rounding the home turn.
HEART OF MELBOURNE (D. Browne) was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
Near the 300m, EMBRAER improved onto the heels of the tiring LITTLE MRS MURPHY (C. Kearney) and had to be restrained before altering course to the outside to secure clear running.
ZIPPITY JET was held up for clear running over the final 200m and went to the line without being fully tested.
CRAIGLEA MASTA (T. Bell) laid in under pressure in the home straight.
LATIN AMERICAN (M. Cahill) was caught extremely wide throughout.
LITTLE MRS MURPHY (C. Kearney) raced wide without cover.
A post race veterinary examination of LATIN AMERICAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 8: Pam Pugsley 50th Birthday Class 1 H'cap – 1400m
R. Jamieson reported that O’BRO hung out from the 600m onwards.
AUDICIOUS AL (A. Taylor), BILBERRY STAR (L. Tarrant) and OVERRULE (R. McMahon) were slow to begin.
OVERRULE hung out rounding the home turn.
CRACKERJET (R. Wiggins) and LA FLASH (J. Johnson) were both inconvenienced rounding the home turn between BEE PLUS (L.Cassidy) and BABY RASY (J. Byrne), which shifted out.
Leaving the 300m, LA FLASH was disappointed for a run between BABY RASY and CRACKERJET, both of which shifted ground.
Stewards asked L. Cassidy to comment on the performance of BEE PLUS. He stated that after being slowly away he was forced to position the horse further back in the field than he would have liked, but the gelding travelled well in the middle stages and he was able to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight, however BEE PLUS failed to finish the race off and was disappointing.
O’BRO lost its off hind plate in running.
