Subject to any further submissions being received, trainers S. Kendrick (DEB’S HOPE) and Natalie McCall (NOVASPUR) were each fined $100 for failing to declare riders for their respective horses by the prescribed time.
CANDENTE (J. Kokotajlo) began awkwardly and bumped HI JO SILVER (A. Butler), and then shifted out and made contact with OAKFIELD CANDY (S. Lanigan), which had to be eased from the heels of NOVASPUR (M. Hellyer).
J. Kokotajlo, rider of CANDENTE, pleaded guilty charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in leaving the 1100m when insufficiently clear of HI JO SILVER, causing that horse to be tightened for room between CANDENTE and RUNNING VIXEN (A. Taylor) and resulting in A. Butler, rider of HI JO SILVER, having to check his mount at that stage. J. Kokotajlo was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 21 September and to expire at midnight, 2 October.
After passing the 1000m, CANDENTE commenced to overrace at the heels of DEB’S HOPE (L. Cassidy) and whilst being restrained shifted wider on the track nearing the 900m, forcing OAKFIELD CANDY wider. OAKFIELD CANDY then raced from that point onwards.
For a short distance approaching the 800m, DEB’S HOPE overraced at the heels of FUSIL DE EVE (E. Wilkinson).
RUNNING VIXEN (A. Taylor) overraced in the middle stages.
CANDENTE bled during the event. Connections were advised that CANDENTE would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

IRISH GIG (M. McKenzie) and BRIM’S CHOICE (M. Speers) were slow to begin.
NORDIC GIRL (A. Spinks) overraced during the early stages and at a point near the 1000m shifted out, inconveniencing LOVE LAUGHING (J. Hoopert), which then shifted wider on the track and had to be steadied from the heels of KLUBBITT (D. Gill).
IRISH GIG overraced in the early stages and near the 800m improved onto the heels of LOVE LAUGHING and when being restrained shifted wider for a short distance.
BRIM’S CHOICE broke down approaching the 700m. A veterinary examination of BRIM’S CHOICE, revealed the horse had fractured its pelvis and was subsequently euthanased by the veterinary surgeon on humane grounds.
After passing the 400m, THE MAN SAID (N. Evans) was inconvenienced when tightened for room to the inside of HE’S ALL GOLD (E. Kehoe), which shifted in and away from AROUND THE LEGS (E. Wilkinson). Following this incident, HE’S ALL GOLD laid in under pressure for the remainder of the race.
KLUBBITT and NORDIC GIRL raced wide throughout the race.
Race 3: Boardman Bulk Haulage Class 1 H'cap – 1800m
As A. Holt’s arrival at the track was delayed, A. Butler was substituted as the rider of WAY OF BEING.
WAY OF BEING (A. Butler) and TIGER JET (T. Jeffries) were slow to begin.
Near the 100m, ARDROVA (B. Appo) improved onto the heels of the tiring MAJOR GENERAL (J. Stanley) and shifted out, inconveniencing LOTZA MATEZ (C. McIver).
Stewards afforded T. Jeffries the opportunity to comment on the performance of TIGER JET. She stated that the horse proved very disappointing and could offer no explanation for the performance. Trainer R. Heathcote confirmed his disappointment, adding that, in his opinion, the gelding was having its first start under lights and this may have been a contributing factor to the performance. Mr Heathcote undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that comes to light that may have had a bearing on today's performance.
Race 4: Priceline Pharmacy Caloundra Class 2 H'cap – 1400m
As M. McKenzie was injured riding in Race 2, T. Jeffries was substituted as the rider of PLACID HOST.
Subject to any further submissions being received, trainer K. Clark-Peoples was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare a rider for HEART OF TEXAS by the prescribed time.
HALLSIDE SHOWDOWN (L. Tarrant) and HAKAKUNA (G. Killen) were both slow to begin.
Leaving the 1300m, HAKAKUNA had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room to the inside of OUTBACK FIGHTER (A. Butler), which shifted in, and HAKAKUNA commenced to overrace and a short distance later improved on to the heels of OUTBACK FIGHTER and had to be checked and in doing so shifted wider on the track and overraced in a 3-wide position from that point onwards.
Approaching the 400m, SASSY MAHER (J. Morris) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so inconvenienced PLACID HOST (T. Jeffries), forcing that horse wider on the track.
HALLSIDE SHOWDOWN hung out from the 800m and raced greenly under pressure in the home straight, and did not finish the race off as anticipated. A post race veterinary examination of HALLSIDE SHOWDOWN revealed it to be lame in the off hindleg and had sustained a laceration and was lame in the off hind leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for HALLSIDE SHOWDOWN prior to its next race start.

L. Cassidy, rider of HAUSER, pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 800m when insufficiently clear of DOMINANT PLAY (A. Holt) which at the time was racing to the outside of STICK FIGHTER, which resulted in DOMINANT PLAY being taken in on to the rightful running of STICK FIGHTER, causing STICK FIGHTER to be tightened for room on to the hind quarters of SAYITWITHLOVE (A. Spinks), resulting in K. Matheson having to take hold of STICK FIGHTER and lose its position. L. Cassidy was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 28 September and to expire at midnight, 6 October 2013.
DUNLAP (A. Butler), HIDE THE ACE, TREECAT MAGIC (C. McIver), WHAT ABOUT NOW (E. Wilkinson) raced wide for the majority of the race.
J. Stanley was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the winner, MISS RADICAL, in particular the reason leading which was in contrast to its recent racing pattern. He stated that the trainer’s intention was to be positioned in a handy to midfield position, however when racing extremely wide in the early stages there was a lack of pace in the event and he elected to stride forward to take up the lead near the 800m. Stewards also questioned trainer D. Churchill regarding the tactics adopted and improved performance of MISS RADICAL. In relation to the improved performance, Miss Churchill advised that, in her opinion, the mare was more suited to today’s distance, adding that in shorter events MISS RADICAL was unable to muster sufficient speed in the early stages to take up a forward position. She added that with the addition of blinkers and lack of early pace today, she was satisfied that jockey Stanley took the initiative and rode forward to lead the race, and that it would now be her intention to step the horse up over 1600m and instruct riders to attempt to lead. Stewards noted the explanation.
When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of DECENT CHOICE (M. Speers) stated that despite travelling well in the early and middle stages, the mare peaked on its run near the 200m and failed to finish the race off as expected. He was of the opinion that DECENT CHOICE may derive some fitness benefit from today’s race.
Apprentice A. Butler was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of DUNLAP. He stated that it had not been his intention to race in a position outside the lead, however when positioned wide during the early stages, and noting the lack of speed in the event, he elected to ride forward to take up that position. Apprentice Butler advised it was now the intention of the trainer to send the horse for a spell.
BELLA FORTUNA (T. Harrison) hung out rounding home turn and then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the home straight.
Race 6: Caloundra Fruit Market Maiden H'cap – 1000m

Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was advised that TAKE MY HAND, which raced uncompetitively, would be required to trail in an official trial prior to its next race start.
J. Stanley reported ARCTIC PASSAGE began awkwardly. This caused J. Stanley to become unbalanced in the saddle. He added that ARCTIC PASSAGE then laid in for the majority of the race.
Race 7: Caloundra UDC QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1200m
Trainer R. Heathcote advised that as ANOTHER CHOISYN has not been finishing its races off when ridden in the second half of the field, he would be instructing the jockey to be aggressive out of the barriers and take up a forward position. The horse was ridden accordingly.
LITTLE DE TROY (R. McMahon) was tightened for room and had to be checked at the start between MISS CHINCHILLA (A. Taylor) and ANOTHER CHOISYN (T. Harrison), which was taken out after receiving heavy contact from HARNILIAM (K. Matheson), which jumped away awkwardly. In this incident, FORTY NIL MANLY (C. Schmidt) shifted to the outside of MISS CHINCHILLA (A. Taylor), became unbalanced and lost ground.
Near the 1100m, both HARNILIAM and ANOTHER CHOISYN were tightened for room between ALL TO REAL (B. Appo) and MISS CHINCHILLA (A. Taylor), which shifted in. A. Taylor, rider of MISS CHINCHILLA, was reprimanded for this incident.
L. Tarrant, rider of PROUD VAL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1000m he allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of ANOTHER CHOISYN, which resulted in that horse being taken in on to ALL TOO REAL, which in turn was taken in on to BRAZEN FELT (L. Cassidy), which resulted in BRAZEN FELT being tightened for room and L. Cassidy having to restrain BRAZEN FELT and lose its position at this stage. L. Tarrant was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 29 September and to expire at midnight, 11 October 2013. Following this incident, ALL TOO REAL commenced to overrace and improved on to the heels of PROUD VAL leaving the 900m and when restrained shifted out forcing ANOTHER CHOISYN wider. ANOTHER CHOISYN and then raced wide for the remainder of the event.
Passing the 300m, LITTLE DE TROY (R. McMahon) improved on to the heels of BLAZEN FELT and was obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.
K. Matheson reported that HARNILIAM raced greenly throughout the event.
A post race veterinary examination of ALL TOO REAL revealed the horse to be lame in the off hind leg. Connections were advised that veterinary clearance would be required for ALL TOO REAL prior to its next race start.
