SUPPLEMENTARY

From Eagle Farm 2.10.13 – Race 6: Trainer D. Duryea advised stewards that following the disappointing performance of FAIRY GREEN, further veterinary tests carried out on the mare revealed the onset of a possible virus , which it will now be treated for.

GENERAL

As J. Morris was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagements due to traffic difficulties, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Apprentice C. Schmidt was reprimanded for leaving the course without seeking stewards’ permission.

Apprentice B. Richardson was fined the sum of $100 for failing to produce a letter of authority.

Race 1: BOTTOM LINE CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M

TEGIC (B. Abbey) and JERROCITY (C. McIver) began awkwardly.

KENTAUR (J. Hoopert) and KABOWD (A. Spinks) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 800m HAKAKUNA (J. Stanley) improved on to the heels of BEAUTRIX (T. Jeffries) and overraced for a short distance.

MOSSGLOW (R. Jamieson) was held up for a short distance passing the 400m.

From the 200m BEAUTRIX was unable to secure clear running behind the weakening MORTGAGE LIFTER (R. Goltz) and as a result went to the line without being fully tested.

Stewards asked J. Stanley to comment on the performance of HAKAKUNA. He stated that after being held up rounding the home turn, he improved after leaving the 400m on to the back of TEGIC and shortly afterwards attempted to secure clear running to the outside of that horse and to the inside of KENTAUR, however he was disappointed for that run and as a result was forced to check HAKAKUNA at a point leaving the 200m and following this the gelding finished the race off well over the concluding stages.

Stewards asked apprentice A. Butler to comment on the performance of ZAGAMI. He stated that as the gelding is a stayer resuming after a lengthy spell, it was unable to muster sufficient early speed to remain in touch with the main body of the field and he was obliged to pressure the horse in the early stages. He added that from the 600m ZAGAMI improved into the race when placed under pressure. In his opinion, ZAGAMI was doing its best work over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination of ZAGAMI failed to reveal any abnormalities, and a swab sample was taken.

MOSSGLOW bled from both nostrils following the event. Trainer E. Rohipa’s stable representative was advised that MOSSGLOW would be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

Race 2: COOLUM BEACH REALTY CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

TITAN TIGRESS (M. Vance) was slow to begin.

HEEZA BONZA (B. Abbey) raced wide throughout.

DEVIL’S DASH (A. Merritt) was tightened for room at the start between HIALEAH JET (A. Butler) and BELL’S EXPRESS (R. Goltz), which jumped awkwardly and shifted out.

VAIN AT HEART (R. Jamieson) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

Approaching the 200m the weakening AROUND THE LEGS (J. Stanley) shifted in and away from HIALEAH JET and made heavy contact with the running rail. A short distance later HIALEAH JET shifted in to secure clear running after having had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Approaching the 100m both BELL’S EXPRESS and VAIN AT HEART were inconvenienced when tightened for room between HIALEAH JET, which shifted out, and FLAME FIGHTER (E. Wilkinson), which shifted in. Apprentice A. Butler (HIALEAH JET) was reprimanded for this incident.

When asked to comment on the performance of DANORO LAD, K. Wharton stated that from a wide barrier he was obliged to ride vigorously in the early stages in order to secure a forward position and as a result of this the gelding overraced when he attempted to settle it near the 900m. He added DANORO LAD continued to overrace until the 500m and in his opinion this had a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance. He added that he had recommended to connections to consider the addition of a Norton bit prior to its next start.

AROUND THE LEGS bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer D. Roberts was advised that AROUND THE LEGS would be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

Race 3: RAM AUTOMOTIVE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1600M

Trainer T. Hall advised that after drawing a more favourable barrier today, it is the intention to have MR DODO (E. Wilkinson) ridden in a mid to forward position if circumstances permit. MR DODO was slow to begin and as a result was ridden in the second half of the field.

POPULAR BELIEF (J. Stanley) jumped away awkwardly, hampering both RED HORNET (A. Taylor) and ONE EAT ONE (T. Jeffries).

WAY OF BEING (A. Butler) was slow to begin.

When the pace steadied approaching the 1200m, SOLE ILLUSION (C. Schmidt), MR DODO and HENDY (B. Appo) all commenced to overrace. HENDY continued to overrace until approaching the 600m.

Leaving the 600m MR DODO improved on to the heels of OVERRULE (G. Goold) and had to be steadied. HENDY, which was following, also had to be steadied as a result.

J. Stanley reported that POPULAR BELIEF hung out from leaving the 600m until shortly after entering the home straight.

Apprentice G. Goold reported that OVERRULE laid out for the majority of the event.

Trainer D. Murphy was advised that IRISH GIG (C. McIver), which compounded badly in the home straight and finished last, would be ineligible to compete at TAB meetings until such time as it has established improvement in its form.

When asked to comment on the performance of PRICKLY BALLROOM, M. Speers reported that the mare travelled well throughout the event in the second half of the field, however when asked for an effort in the home straight failed to respond and in his opinion proved disappointing in the run to the line and could offer no explanation for the performance.

URBANE (B. Richardson) lost its near hind plate in running.

When questioned regarding the performance of SOLE ILLUSION, apprentice C. Schmidt reported that from the wide barrier draw, in an endeavour to get a position closer to the rail, the horse raced further back than anticipated but felt good in its action and travelled well in the middle stages, however once placed under pressure leaving the 600m, failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of SOLE ILLUSION failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 4: THE SHOP FOOD STORE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

PORTLAND PUZZLE (B. Abbey) kicked its hind plates off and as the farrier could not reattach them in the timeframe provided, stewards permitted the horse to race bare footed behind.

HEART OF AYLA (B. Richardson), which had been fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin and then overraced in the middle stages.

TOTAL DESTRUCTION (A. Taylor), which was slow to begin, was further inconvenienced by RAIN SPELL (M. Gray), which shifted out.

Approaching the 800m ALAZANI (C. McIver), which was inclined to lay in, had to be steadied from the heels of MIRFAK (K. Matheson), which shifted out slightly. ALAZANI continued to lay in for the remainder of the event.

For a short distance after passing the 800m ATTITUDINAL MISS (T. Jeffries) commenced to overrace at the heels of WHITTLESEA LASS (G. Goold).

AIMING HIGH (B. Appo) and MISS ALEXANDRA (M. Crawford) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 700m TOTAL DESTRUCTION, whilst hanging in, commenced to overrace and did so until approaching the 600m.

Near the 500m both ATTITUDINAL MISS and PORTLAND PUZZLE were both obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of ALAZANI, which shifted in.

ATTITUDINAL MISS was held up for clear running shortly after entering the home straight.

On return to scale apprentice G. Goold reported that WHITTLESEA LASS, after beginning well, commenced to race greenly after passing the 800m and as a result shifted wider on the track, forcing him to race three wide throughout the event. He added that in his opinion the mare was field shy throughout the event and he had recommended to connections to add blinkers to the mare’s gear.

Race 5: THE COOLUM BEACH BOWLS CLUB CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1000M

PRETTY GULLY (B. Appo), which was slow to begin, was then tightened for room and had to be checked off the heels of BUNDU BOY (A. Spinks) after being taken in by DARLIN’ JULES (T. Jeffries), which in turn was taken in when TRILLIUM (I. French) blundered on jumping away and shifted in.

Race 6: ELEMENT COOLUM ON COOLUM BEACH MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M

After hearing submissions from trainer T. Crane, stewards allowed a gear change of the removal of blinkers and tongue tie from GRACE GOT MAIL (K. Matheson). Stewards will investigate the circumstances in coming days.

Correct weight was delayed to enable I. French, the rider of 2nd placegetter LIGHTNING DRIFT, and A. Spinks, the rider of 4th placegetter STAR FORMATION, the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge objections. After viewing the video, both riders declined to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

MORE THAN SUPERB (A. Butler) was significantly slow to begin.

LIGHTNING DRIFT (I. French) jumped away awkwardly.

LIGHTNING DRIFT and MISS MOOKYCHICK (A. Merritt) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 300m LEMAITRE (R. Wiggins) shifted out, causing LIGHTNING DRIFT to shift back to the inside to avoid that horse’s heels.

A post-race veterinary examination of FEMININE MISS (A. Taylor), which compounded badly over the final 600m, found the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer G. Taylor was advised that before FEMININE MISS is permitted to race again it must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and he must produce a veterinary clearance for the horse, including the results of an ECG.

HAUSER (B. Appo) lost its near fore plate in running.
