Race 1: www.SCTC.Com.au Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
PICTURE IT (V. Colgan) was slow to begin.
Race 2 : Reed Property Group Maiden H'cap – 2200m
CRAIGLEA RELOAD (T. Tincknell), which was fractious in the stalls, lunged at the gates as the start was effected and consequently missed the start.
T. Tincknell explained after CRAIGLEA RELOAD touched the front of its gate as the start was effected, it then took a step backwards resulting in her horse being slow to begin. Miss Tincknell advised she had been specifically instructed to lead from the inside draw, however when this incident occurred at the start, in the early stages she then elected to shift out and improved her position around the field. She said near the 1400m when she was able to position outside YARRAWA BOY she was of the view that that horse may have handed up the lead, however when it did not do so she was left racing outside the lead until a point near the 800m where she was able to stride forward to cross to the lead. Trainer B. Gill confirmed the instructions given and having viewed the film was somewhat satisfied that the ride in that, in his opinion, CRAIGLEA RELOAD is a horse which performs best when establishing the leading position. Apprentice Ticknell was nevertheless advised that in the stewards’ opinion it may have been better for her to have not taken off as early as she did which resulted in CRAIGLEA RELOAD covering extra ground from the 2000m to the 1400m.
G. Goold, rider of FORT CONSTANTINE, explained when CRAIGLEA RELOAD shifted around him near the 1800m, to press forward, he was of the view that that horse may have been working forward to the lead and he therefore endeavoured to shift out and stride forward from the 1600m, in the hope to race outside that horse. He said when he did elect to stride forward his horse was unable to improve as quickly as it did. He also became aware that CRAIGLEA RELOAD was unable to cross to the lead, therefore his mount was left racing 3 wide for the remainder of the journey from the 1400m. G. Goold’s explanation was noted.
RESERVED lost its off fore plate in running.

In the early stages, FORTY NIL MANLY (C. Schmidt) overraced.
Near the 1000m, HARNILIAM was restrained to avoid the heels of ENDLESS PUZZLE (P. Homes), which shifted in when barely clear.
For a short distance on straightening, FORTY NIL MANLY (C. Schmidt) was held up.

J. Byrne, rider of the 4th placegetter, HALLSIDE SHOWDOWN, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the end of the race.
A post race veterinary examination of STROMBO revealed the gelding to have bled from one nostril. Connections were advised that the gelding would be required to complete a gallop of 1000m before a steward. months.
