Race 1: Montego’s Bar & Restaurant Maiden Plate – 850m
SHELBY (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.
HOLLY COMMAND (M. McKenzie) jumped away awkwardly.
K. Wharton, rider of UNIQUE STAR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 600m, he allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of HOLLY COMMAND, which resulted M. McKenzie having to take hold of HOLLY COMMAND and shift in an attempt to avoid UNIQUE STAR, causing SHEPIKTUS (A. Butler), which had commenced to hang after being tightened for room, to be checked at that stage. K. Wharton was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 November and to expire at midnight, 19 November.
Approaching the 400m, RAZOR CASTLE (A. Badger), which raced greenly throughout, shifted out, causing SHELBY (Michael Palmer) to shift out to avoid that runner’s heels. A. Badger, rider of RAZOR CASTLE, was reprimanded and advised to make greater effort to keep her mounts straight in similar circumstances.
Race 2: Corona Class 3 Plate – 1600m
ZENAWOMAN (R. Johnston-Bell) was slow to begin.
Stewards questioned apprentice R. Johnston-Bell regarding his riding of ZENAWOMANN, which raced wide for the majority of the race. After taking evidence from trainer K. Hill and R. Johnston-Bell, stewards advised apprentice Johnston-Bell that his ride lacked judgement in that when positioned at the tail of the field he placed ZENAWOMANN wider in order to improve, however only improved slightly into the race which caused him to race 3 wide throughout. Taking into account apprentice Johnston-Bell’s inexperience, stewards took no further action.
Race 3: Hahn Super Dry 3.5 Maiden Plate – 1300m
DR JAZZ proved difficult to load into the barriers, causing a delay to the start of this race. Trainer B. Robinson was advised that DR JAZZ must pass an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
NEW ECLIPSE (V. Venkaya) began awkwardly, losing ground.
TIERRO (Michael Palmer) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground, before overracing in the middle stages and having to be restrained from heels.
DR JAZZ (A. Badger) overraced at heels leaving the 1000m and then shifted wider on the track and raced wide for the remainder of the race.
SIR BERNARDI (T. Brooker) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Trainer G. Irwin reported that NEW ECLIPSE got its tongue over the bit during the race and he would now experiment with a bit lifter in future starts.
Race 4: Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers Class 5 H'cap – 1200m
CHASTELAIN (M. O’Brien) and ZIPPITY JET (R. Johnston-Bell) were slow to begin.
NIGHT MOVES (T. Brooker) began awkwardly and lost ground.
CHASTELAIN hung in throughout the race.
Race 5: XXXX Summer Bright Class 1 Plate – 2200m
Connections advised that JETSCAPE would be ridden further back in the field today. The horse was ridden accordingly, however when the pace slackened leaving the 1500m JETSCAPE shifted wider improved its position and took up the lead near the 1200m.
OVERRULE (R. Johnston-Bell) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
WAY OF BEING (A. Butler) was slow to begin.
A. Taylor, rider of KAZAN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 800m she allowed her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of DON’T THINK DO (A. Spinks), causing that horse to be taken in on to the rightful running of STALWART ESTA (V. Venkaya), causing both riders to take hold of their mounts. A. Taylor was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 November and to expire are midnight, 11 November .
Near the 1200m, OVERRULE (R. Johnston-Bell) improved onto heels and shifted wider, forcing BIG MAX wider on the track. BIG MAX raced wide form that point of the race.
Leaving the 600m, MAXIMUM CASH (Michael Palmer) shifted out to improve and in doing so inconvenienced both OVERRULE and BIG MAX.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of MAGIC GONSKI, trainer M. Lakey reported that, in his opinion and in the opinion of his trackwork rider, the horse had shown in its trackwork that it was looking for more ground and would benefit from a step up in distance, which, in his opinion, explained the improved performance.
