SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Stewards inquired into the circumstances surrounding the failure of licensed trackwork rider S. Gillman to supply a urine sample when directed to do so on the morning of Thursday, 3 July 2014. Mr Gillman submitted that he was unable to supply a sample as he had work commitments to fulfil. After consider his submissions, stewards issued a charge under AR. 81A(1)(b) to which Mr Gillman pleaded guilty. After hearing submissions on penalty, stewards suspended Mr Gillman from riding trackwork from 3 July 2014 until 3 December 2014, a period of 5 months. Mr Gillman was advised that he would be required to supply a urine sample free of any prohibited substance prior to being permitted to ride trackwork again. In assessing penalty, stewards were mindful that this was Mr Gillman’s third offence under this rule.

Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $100 under LR. 43 for having in his employ an unlicensed stablehand.

GENERAL

As S. Galloway was indisposed and A. Butler was to be overweight in Race 8, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: BELLVISTA TAVERN MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M

GAYLEN (T. Brooker) bounded on jumping and lost significant ground.

ARTALO (D. Carrigg) had difficulty securing clear running from the 400m until leaving the 200m.

A post-race veterinary examination of MRS BOOLE (J. Morris), which hung out and took no competitive part in the event, revealed no significant findings. A swab sample was taken from MRS BOOLE. Trainer B. Ahrens’ stable representative was advised that MRS BOOLE must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.

When asked to comment on the performance of SWIFT AND SASSY, apprentice R. Jamieson indicated that the filly was not suited to the distance of today’s event as she was obliged to pressure the horse from the 700m and despite this SWIFT AND SASSY found the line strongly and was doing its best work over the concluding stages. She indicated that SWIFT AND SASSY would benefit from a step up in distance.

Race 2: COOROY HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

SALUTE OUR DIGGERS (A. Allen) was slow to begin.

RED ‘N’ BROWN (L. Tarrant) and METEORIC MOMENTS (R. Wiggins) made contact on jumping away, causing both horses to become unbalanced and lose ground.

PURE SENSE (E. Wilkinson) overraced for a short distance passing the 1000m.

RAHJY (K. Wharton), which was positioned wide on the track, broke down passing the 800m and was retired from the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed RAHJY to be lame in the off hind leg. After receiving veterinary treatment and being sedated, RAHJY was transported back to trainer R. Heathcote’s stable for further assessment. Connections will be advised that a full veterinary clearance will be required before allowing the filly to race again.

MR SEDUCTION (A. Merritt) overraced when passing the 800m.

Passing the 400m RED ‘N’ BROWN had to be steadied when tightened for room between METEORIC MOMENTS and IMA PEARCE (A. Best), which shifted out slightly.

METEORIC MOMENTS hung in under pressure from the 400m, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

MR SEDUCTION laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 3: BUNDABERG RUM CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1600M

The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event in progress.

Correct weight was delayed to allow M. Cahill, the rider of 2nd placegetter WIMPOLE STREET, and trainer L. White to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against the winner INNER VIKING (R. Wiggins). After viewing the videos, jockey Cahill indicated he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared.

ADELPHI (T. Wolfgram) was slow to begin.

HENRY’S CROWN (R. McMahon) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

QUAD (C. Jokic) raced wide throughout.

Passing the 1200m WIMPOLE STREET (M. Cahill) steadied and SINGARAJA (K. Yoshida), which was following, commenced to overrace and continued to do so for some distance before shifting wider on the track approaching the 800m. SINGARAJA then raced wide from that point onwards.

When rounding the home turn HENRY’S CROWN laid in, causing its rider to become unbalanced in the saddle.

Approaching the 400m BALINESE BOY (K. Wharton) had to be steadied when attempting to secure clear running between WIMPOLE STREET and SAYORI (J. Orman), which shifted out whilst weakening. Apprentice Orman was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Trainer D. Murphy reported that SAYORI returned to the enclosure with its tongue over the bit and that it would be her intention to apply a tongue tie for the horse’s next start.

Race 4: YALUMBA CLASS 3 PLATE – 1800M

The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event in progress.

HAKAKUNA (B. Appo) and VOCALISE (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.

EXQUISITE ANGEL (K. Wharton) was obliged to race wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to the lead when passing the 1100m.

A short distance after 1000m when the pace slackened, DIAPHYSIS (G. Goold) improved on to the heels of WINNING FASHIONS (C. Munce) and had to be steadied.

Rounding the home turn WINNING FASHIONS shifted out to improve and in doing so hampered the weakening SUGAR DADDY (L. Tarrant), which made contact with VOCALISE, forcing that horse wider. VOCALISE then laid in under pressure in the home straight.

WINNING FASHIONS lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 5: AINSWORTH CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

ATHANEA was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 8.14 am as the filly was ineligible to race after having won a Class 1 event at Ipswich on 4 July. Subject to any further submissions from trainer B. Baldwin, a fine of $200 will be imposed for his failure to scratch by the prescribed time.

The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event in progress.

LOTUS EATER (L. Tarrant) and KILLARNEY BELLE (G. Colless) were both slow to begin.

NARSONS DUKE (J. Byrne) raced three wide without cover.

Leaving the 800m JUNDAH JACK (R. Jamieson) had to be steadied when racing between ROSE OF THE WEST (C. Munce), which shifted out slightly, and HALL OF PEACE (C. Jokic), which shifted in.

Approaching the 500m JUNDAH JACK had to be steadied from the heels of ROSE OF THE WEST and lost ground after shifting in and away from HALL OF PEACE, which was inclined to lay in.

HALL OF PEACE raced wide for the majority of the event.

When asked to comment on the performance of NARSONS DUKE, J. Byrne indicated that after being caught wide the gelding was reluctant to stretch out on today’s racing surface and was inclined to lay out in the middle stages and in his opinion would be better suited on rain-affected tracks. Trainer D. Hansen indicated that he would discuss the horse’s current preparation with the owners.

Race 6: XXXX GOLD QTIS 3YO CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M

Correct weight was delayed to ensure that LADY DRAMAS (E. Wilkinson) had not been denied a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage, it was found that LADY DRAMAS refused to jump with the rest of the field and took no competitive part in the event, despite being afforded a fair start. Trainer P. Fleming was advised that the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.

NOT A SINGLEMOMENT (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.

JAMES IS BLONDE (C. Van Der Werf) and DAME DESTINY (R. Wiggins) both raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 800m WARLOCK (A. Best) raced ungenerously when being restrained away from the heels of BIRDIE BLITZ (G. Goold), which shifted in.

Approaching the 500m RIVERBOLDA (A. Allen) shifted in, causing NOT A SINGLEMOMENT to be steadied.

RIVERBOLDA and NOT A SINGLEMOMENT were both held up during the early stages of the home straight.

Approaching the 200m R. McMahon, rider of NOT A SINGLEMOMENT, was obliged to stop riding and alter course to secure clear running outside the heels of JAMES IS BLONDE, which laid in under pressure.

RIVERBOLDA again had difficulty securing clear running over the concluding stages.

G. Colless was asked to comment on the performance of SCREAMING JET. He indicated that rounding the home turn he directed his mount out into clear running and felt the horse let down well, however from the 200m the gelding shortened stride noticeably and in his opinion this may have been due to the horse having its first start after a lengthy spell. A post-race veterinary examination of SCREAMING JET revealed no abnormalities at time of exam.

Race 7: BRIGHTWATER HOTEL BM80 H’CAP – 1400M

HERE’S ROGER (J. Orman) was tightened for room at the start between SON OF COCO (A. Allen) and MODERN AL (N. Yamada) both of which shifted ground.

SON OF COCO, when racing in the lead, overraced with its head in the air during the middle stages.

RECKON I’M RANSOM (R. McMahon) hung out from the 800m and finished a distant last. Trainer J. Aitkenhead was advised that RECKON I’M RANSOM must perform satisfactorily in two official barrier trials prior to its next start.

After passing the 500m HERE’S ROGER was held up for a short distance and was also obliged to alter course leaving the 300m to secure clear running.

ACHIEVEMENTS (S. Payne) was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight until the 200m.

Near the 300m both PEACE TALKS (A. Best) and GENTLE GIANT (G. Goold) attempted to secure clear running between ST ANDREWS (K. Wharton) and RECKON I’M RANSOM, which then laid in resulting in GENTLE GIANT having to be restrained from that horse’s heels.

Apprentice S. Payne (ACHIEVEMENTS) was reprimanded for raising his whip arm above shoulder height.

Race 8: CELLARBRATIONS CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M

Apprentice A. Butler was fined $100 for failing to fulfil his engagement on DEADLY DENNIS due to being overweight.

GIDS (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages.

DYNA ROSE (B. El-Issa) raced wide throughout.

MR DODO (L. Tarrant) laid in under pressure from the 400m, which resulted in the horse not being fully tested in the run to the line.

Near the 400m FIRST CLASS (D. Browne) shifted out to secure clear running and made contact with DYNA ROSE.

Apprentice A. Allen reported that DEADLY DENNIS laid in under pressure in the home straight.
