Race 1: TJS SERVICES GOLD COAST MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M
The start was delayed when MONASHEE BLOSSOM (R. Vigar) proved difficult to load. Trainer G. McCauley was advised that a warning would be placed on that filly’s barrier manners.
EULO (R. McMahon) was tightened for room and had to be checked, losing significant ground at the start between FASHION APP (A. Best) and GAYLEN (T. Brooker), which was taken in by MALIBU DANCER (T. Bell). Following this, MALIBU DANCER continued to lay in during the early stages despite the efforts of its rider.
HANWOOD CLUB (S. Fawke) was slow to begin.
MAYBE BABY (C. Van Der Werf) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 700m CLARISSA (K. Wharton), which was overracing, was obliged to steady when racing in restricted room to the inside of POUND THE PAVEMENT (A. Spinks). Following this, CLARISSA continued to race greenly with its head in the air until entering the home straight and when placed under pressure in the home straight, laid in.
MAYBE BABY and GAYLEN raced wide without cover.
Approaching the 200m M. Carson (RIPPER NIPPER) dropped his offside rein before regathering it a short distance later.
Race 2: TJS SERVICES GLADSTONE CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1000M
The start of this race was delayed due to holding for an interstate race in progress.
ARAWAK (D. Browne) raced three wide without cover.
FATHER SHADY (L. Tarrant) hung out rounding the home turn.
M. Morris (SAMMY LOU) dropped his whip near the 300m.
Race 3: TJS SERVICES CAIRNS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
FIBRO (R. McMahon) underwent a veterinary inspection prior to being permitted to start due to an old injury on the near foreleg and was cleared to take its place in the field.
MISS SO GOOD (R. Vigar), which was late arriving on course, was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed to take its place in the field. Trainer L. Ross was fined the sum of $200.
The start of this race was delayed when FIBRO, which was fractious in the barriers, was removed and underwent a veterinary inspection which passed the gelding fit to start.
BANKSY (T. Wolfgram) was slow to begin.
SUZY’S BOY (D. Browne), which was slow to begin, was steadied shortly afterwards when inconvenienced between BRIALKA LODGE (M. Morris) and EPIC FLIGHT (T. Bell), which shifted out.
WULFWIN (J. Byrne) and CRACK OF DAWN (G. Goold) were both tightened for room at the start between SIR RUPERT (S. Galloway), which was taken out by MORE LIES (A. Best), and MISS SO GOOD, which shifted in away from CRAIGLEA MISSION (K. Wharton).
EPIC FLIGHT and WULFWIN both raced wide without cover.
FIBRO raced greenly throughout the event and overraced for a short distance passing the 800m.
Passing the 500m MORE LIES was inconvenienced when SIR RUPERT shifted in. In this incident MORE LIES overreacted to being steadied and raced with its head in the air for a short distance.
SUZY’S BOY had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
Near the 50m HEART COMMAND (E. Wilkinson) was steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room between SUZY’S BOY and CLANDISE (L. Tarrant), which shifted out under pressure, before being straightened.
Apprentice G. Goold reported that CRACK OF DAWN raced greenly throughout and shifted in abruptly approaching the 800m and had to be checked from the heels of WULFWIN. He added that near the 250m when he steadied away from the heels of MORE LIES, CRACK OF DAWN shifted in abruptly.
The veterinary surgeon reported that WULFWIN sustained a laceration to the off hind hock consistent with being galloped on.
Race 4: TJS SERVICES SUNSHINE COAST MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M
INVICTUS MANEO (C. Kearney) was significantly slow to begin.
FRENCH WARRIOR (M. Vance) was slow to begin.
ELIZABETH’S DREAM (M. Cahill) and SENDAI ARROW (C. Schmidt) were both inconvenienced at the start when NEXT MINUTE (A. Spinks) jumped away awkwardly.
CAVENDISH ROAD (J. Orman) had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
Stewards questioned apprentice L. Tarrant and trainer F. Phillips regarding the tactics adopted on TAZI ARAZI, which led today, which is in contrast to the horse’s established racing pattern. Mr Phillips indicated that he had instructed apprentice Tarrant to attempt to obtain cover in a midfield position and was surprised to see the horse lead in the early stages. Apprentice Tarrant indicated that after winning the start he made the decision to press forward. He indicated that the horse raced keener that he had expected with the gear change of blinkers on. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 5: TJS SERVICES MACKAY CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M
LUCK’S ON OUR SIDE (T. Wolfgram) was slow to begin.
In the early stages of the home straight CREDIT ONLY (G. Goold) had difficulty securing clear running.

The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event in progress.
MR SLICK (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.
Passing the 400m CALL ME RUSTY (S. Fawke) was steadied when forced to race in restricted room between CASH ‘N’ STYLE (C. Van Der Werf) and ACHIEVEMENTS (D. Browne), which shifted out after being held up for clear running for a short distance.
When asked to comment on the performance of ZED MAN, K. Wharton indicated that the gelding overraced during the early and middle stages and when placed under pressure in the home straight did not respond to his riding and he felt that this could be attributed to the horse not stretching out on the firm racing surface.
Race 7: TJS SERVICES TOWNSVILLE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1600M
Trainer A. McRae was reprimanded for failing to notify a gear change of wedges on the hind hooves of GUNS BLAZING.
Correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice L. Tarrant (HOT AUGUSTA) and apprentice G. Goold (NOVIKOV) to view the stewards’ patrol footage.
NOVIKOV (G. Goold) and HOT AUGUSTA (L. Tarrant) were both slow to begin.
LIVE AND LURID (J. Orman) and BOLD FLIGHT (J. Byrne) overraced in the middle stages.
Approaching the 600m NOVIKOV had to be checked when disappointed for a run between BOLD FLIGHT and HOT AUGUSTA when attempting to improve its position. In this incident HOT AUGUSTA was forced wider, making contact with the hindquarters of WIMPOLE STREET (M. Cahill), forcing that horse wider on the track.
NOVIKOV, after being held up rounding the home turn, was disappointed for a run leaving the 400m to the inside of VIVE LE VENT (C. Schmidt) when that horse shifted back to the fence. NOVIKOV continued to be held up for clear running and when attempting to force a run near the 200m between CHANGE OF LUCK (R. McMahon) and BOLD BLIGHT, G. Goold, the rider of NOVIKOV, was forced to steady his mount to avoid heels and alter course to the outside of BOLD FLIGHT in order to secure clear running when leaving the 100m. Apprentice G. Goold was reprimanded for his actions near the 200m.
A post-race veterinary examination of WIMPOLE STREET, which raced three wide without cover, revealed no abnormalities.
K. Wharton reported that GUNS BLAZING (K. Wharton) hung out under pressure in the home straight.

LEMAITRE and ASLAN’S MOJO (A. Spinks) both raced wide without cover.
Rounding the home turn MUSIC OF LIFE, when held up for clear running, shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with LEMAITRE, forcing that horse wider.
Leaving the 300m JAYELEM (D. Green) improved on to heels and was obliged to alter course.
TIREE TIMES A LADY (R. Vigar) had difficulty securing clear running approaching the 100m when attempting a tight run between LEMAITRE and TWINZIG (J.
