As J. Hoopert was to be overweight, A. Allen was substituted as the rider of HIDE THE ACE. Given jockey Hoopert’s personal circumstances and his previous extremely good record, stewards issued a reprimand.
CASINO BLUE – Connections advised stewards that the horse would be ridden just off the pace if circumstances permit. Had to be steadied over the concluding stages when racing in restricted room between QABLA and BLUE MINI, which shifted out. S. Payne (BLUE MINI) was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount.
GO THE SHOW was inspected by the veterinary surgeon on arrival at the barriers and found to be lame in the near foreleg. GO THE SHOW was declared a late scratching at 1.25 pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on GO THE SHOW be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
0 cent in the dollar for the Win #5
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7

MR SANCHEZ – Weakened badly over the final 500m and tailed off last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that they must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for MR SANCHEZ before its next start and the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to racing again.

Race 3: CHRISTMAS PARTY PACKAGES NOW AVAILABLE BM75 H’CAP – 1800M
BERNIE OF BABYLON – Apprentice S. Payne was questioned regarding his tactics, which initially had been to ride vigorously in the early stages and lead until a point passing the 1400m when he then restrained and allowed CALL ME RUSTY to cross and sit outside the lead at a point approaching the 1200m. This resulted in his mount overracing until near the 700m when he elected to shift wider on the track and race outside the lead until rounding the home turn. He explained that he had been instructed to go forward, however attempt to obtain cover in order to have the horse, which has previously had a tendency to overrace, settle. He indicated that as the horse is light-mouthed, he wished to avoid having the horse overrace if possible. Stewards advised apprentice Payne that due to riding vigorously in the early stages, he would have been better served assuming the lead on the fence rather than restraining after passing the 1400m and this would have allowed his mount to race more comfortably in the lead. Stewards informed apprentice Payne that in their view it was an ill-judged ride, however, given his status as an apprentice, did not take the matter any further.
CALL ME RUSTY – Raced wide in the early stages.
GENTLE GIANT – Had to be restrained when the pace slackened near the 1200m.

IL NOSTRO CAVIALE was a late scratching at 2.15 pm on veterinary advice that the filly had sustained an abrasion on its near fore canon. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on IL NOSTRO CAVIALE be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

TOUR DE MONDE – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
RAPIDE ET FURIEUX – Rider K. Wharton was asked to comment on the horse’s performance. He stated that after being slightly slow to begin, from the wide alley he elected to take hold and take up a trailing position, after which the filly raced greenly and was somewhat field shy, shifting in and away from SILK AND SATIN approaching the 500m and then hanging out slightly rounding the home turn before racing greenly in the early stages of the home straight. He added, however, that over the concluding stages the filly was doing its best work and in his opinion would take benefit from the run and would be suited to a step up in distance for its next start. A post-race veterinary examination of RAPIDE ET FURIEUX revealed no significant findings.

SO IMPATIENT – Slow to begin.
Race 5: 2013/14 SCTC JOCKEY OF THE YEAR – DAMIAN BROWNE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M
Correct weight was delayed to afford, firstly, A. Spinks, the rider of equal dead-heater for 1st YAHUSHA, the opportunity of viewing the patrol footage over the concluding stages to ascertain whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection. Correct weight was further delayed when trainer T. Cotsiopoulos and jockey A. Spinks contested the Judges’ decision to declare a dead-heat for 1st. After taking evidence from the Judges and viewing the photo finish, Stewards were satisfied with the decision made by the judging panel and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.
