GENERAL
As C. Munce was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards' Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Red Energy Promotions QTIS 3yo BM70 H'cap – 1400m
The start was delayed to allow for the completion of an interstate event.
WALK TO THE BAR – Slow to begin.
SAMBUCA SHOT – Rider T. Harrison stated that, in her opinion, the gelding was not suited to the steady tempo in the early stages as she believed the horse performs best when able to improve into the race from the 600m. She added as she was unable to improve when racing behind the leader and the gelding had a tendency to lay out, however did not feel that hanging out had a bearing on the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
DESPINA – Rider B. Stewart reported his mount travelled well however failed to respond to his riding from the 400m onwards and, in his opinion, was disappointing. Trainer L. Ross indicated the filly has had a long preparation and that following today’s performance would now be sent for a spell.
Race 2: Austral Masonry Maiden H'cap – 1800m
HERITAGE LISTED – Slow to begin. Unable to obtain clear running from the 200m onwards.
PODIUM PRINCESS – Slow to begin.
JUST TAKE IT – Overraced in the early stages.
THOU ART – Inquiry into disappointing performance. Rider E. Wilkinson stated that he believed the 59 kilograms impost today had a bearing on the horse’s performance. He added that, in his opinion, his mount raced like a horse coming to the end of its preparation and indicated connections would now give consideration to sending THOU ART for a spell.
Race 3: Lindsay Consulting Class 3 Plate – 1800m
MELATTE – Slow to begin.
DUBAI GEE EYE – Raced wide until the 800m.
VINTAGE BON – Steadied from heels when the pace steadied approaching the 800m.
COLOUR CHARGE – Steadied approaching the 800m.
Race 4: Stacks Building Supplies H'cap – 1000m
COMMANDING CASH – Slow to begin.
Race 5: Big River Timbers Maiden H'cap – 1200m
CAT’S MIAOW – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.06 pm. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to its next race start.
ELECTRIC CRIMSON – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
SNAP FREEZE – Steadied shortly after the start when tightened for room. Steadied when inconvenienced approaching the 400m.
PALEFACE ALI – Raced greenly in the early stages.
GREAT PRETENDER – Obliged to steady near the 500m when racing in restricted room.
CHATEAUROUX – Steadied when placed in restricted room leaving the 900m. Shifted in approaching the 400m and then shifted out, causing interference. Rider B. Appo was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
KEEP THE RHYTHM – Raced wide throughout without cover.
TE KULA KAHA – Raced wide throughout without cover.
AUDELLA – Steadied from heels near the 500m. Raced wide throughout.
TORCH – Rider D. Browne stated the gelding weakened over the final furlong and would take improvement from the run. He added that, in his opinion, the horse may appreciate a step up in distance with less pace during the early stages.
CHINABOB – Inquiry into tactics in leading in today’s event which was in contrast to its recent racing pattern. Rider J. Byrne stated it was not his intention to lead, however after travelling a short distance it became apparent to him he would be caught wide, so he elected to ride forward to obtain a position closer to the fence. After viewing the patrol footage, stewards accepted the explanation.
Race 6: Reece Plumbing Class 1 H'cap – 1000m
STEEL HARLEM – Examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to start.
NIEMANDS GIRL – Slow to begin.
BARNTOWN – Blundered and lost ground at the start. Steadied when tightened for room near the 700m, and then following this hung out until entering the home straight.
FELINE MISS – Blundered and lost ground at the start.
LAUGH A LITTLE – Hung in under pressure in home straight.
KISS MY BRASS – Jockey J. Byrne reported the horse, which raced wide throughout, raced greenly and hung out rounding the home turn. He added that he recommended to connections to remove the blinkers from the gear of the horse
WAKE COUNTY – A post race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to both hind legs.
Race 7: Hy-Tec Concrete Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
RAIN ALERT – Began awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition.
ELECTRIC DEE JAY – Held up rounding the home turn and into the early stages of the home straight.
EXCELLENT STYLE – Inconvenienced leaving the 300m when racing in restricted room.
PROUD VAL – When asked to comment on the performance, rider L. Tarrant indicated that despite obtaining the lead, the mare, in his opinion, did not travel comfortably at any stage and proved disappointing when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. He added that the mare may not have appreciated racing in blinkers. Stewards will interview trainer N. McCall regarding the horse’s performance in the coming days. A veterinary examination revealed it had pulled up in a distressed state and was suffering from thumps.
Race 8: Austral Masonry Class 1 H'cap – 1400m
ENDOY – Slow to begin. Overraced when the pace slackened approaching the 900m.
TRY FOUR – Jumped away awkwardly.
BLANCHARD BLOOM – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
CUSTER’S REWARD – Jumped awkwardly, making contact with another runner.
NEXT ERA – Bumped on jumping away.
EXPLODED – Overraced when the pace slackened approaching the 900m.
NEXT ERA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
FORWARD SPEED – Raced wide without cover.
