Harrison reported that in her opinion, the mare did not run out a strong 1600m and she felt this could be attributed to the slow early pace set in the event which caused the mare to overrace. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had bled from one nostril. Connections were advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m galloped before stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

JUST TAKE IT – Stewards questioned trainer G. Pollock regarding the improved performance and the tactics adopted in that the horse led in today’s event. He stated he had not instructed the rider to lead, adding that the improved performance could be explained by the addition of blinkers today. He added he had instructed the rider to go forward and not to fight the horse if it commenced to overrace with the addition of blinkers, and was therefore not surprised to see the horse lead passing the 1200m. The explanation was noted.
Race 3: Reed Property Group Maiden Plate – 1200m
SET PIECE – Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $100 for failing to produce the registration papers.

Slow to begin. When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, rider D. Browne indicated that it was his pre-race intention to take up a forward position, however with the horse’s barrier manners it was reluctant to race in the early stages and he was obliged to pressure the horse during the first furlong in order to take up a position at the tail of the field.
